Photograph- ed for you. is a light and lovely Bride's (lake, iced with a smooth butter frosting, that fairly "blossoms" with good wishes to the about-to-be-married %couple. What's more, gorgeous and fancy as it may appear, the cake is' relatively easy to make . , and inexpensive too Flank- ed by lighted tapers or candles, this three-tiered creation would be perfect for a rehearsal party though we suggest it could 'ap- pear at the wedding reception itself . . . if you're not "mar- ried" to the idea of having the usual fruited wedding cake.- Planning on something sav- ory for first Course? Try the Hot Cheese Tartlets, wonderful little morsels of pastry tilled with a zippy dhees'e meringue. The .shells are baked ahead of time, then filled and given a ten minute baking period in a very hot oven to finish them up. On to the recipes . . . but before presenting them, we'd like to tuck in our best wishes to the bride and groom, and to the entertaining hostesses. Bride's Cake With Butter Frosting ' (Makes 18 to 20 Servings) 3 cups 'sifted cake flour • 3 teaspoons baking powder 14, teaspoon salt 6 egg whites 3/4 'cup sugar 3/4 cup soft butter 2 teaspoons vanilla 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk Butter an 8-inch square cake pan, a 6-inch square cake, pan and a 4-inch square cake pan. Line the bottom .of each with. waxed paper and brush the paper with soft butter. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sift to- gether the flour, baking powd- er .and salt. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry; gradu- ally beat in the 3/4 cup sugar and continue. to beat until mer- ingue will stand in stiff peaks.. Cream butter; beat in vanilla and almond flavoring. Gradu- ally beat in the 1 cup sugar. Add sifted dry ingredients' to creamed mixture, alteinateiy with milk, combining lightly after each addition. Gently but thoroughly fold in beaten egg whites, Turn batter into prepared pans', filling 'about 2/a full. Bake in preheated' oven 25 minutes for small cake, 30 minutes for medium cake, and 40 minutes for large cake. Let cakes stand in pans on cake racks ten minutes, Remove from pans and peel off paper. Cool completely.
