Thousands of Parts are Available Wholesale
The wholesale plumbing business of The Hearn Wholesale Ltd. firm has
what is probably the longest counter in the wholesale plumbing business. Den-
niS Penfound, Londesboro, checks prices on some of the thousands of items
available through this outlet. William D. Brown, Ethel hardware man waits
for his invoice. Hearn buys from more than a hundred manufacturers, and
has many items required *by plumbers on hand at any one time. Dozens of
bins and lots of shelving space keep most parts within arm's length.

is an estimated more than one
million pumping systems now

Air Inductor could be installed,
in practically every one of
them, In acildition is the es-
timated 85,000 new pumping
systems being installed in the
Dominian each' year.
Production of the' air induct-
or was begun about two years
ago. The C, H, Epps Mfg. Ltd.
firm has the sole Canadian
rights for manufacturing and
distributing it.
Clifford Epps', now of 26 Jos-
eph Street, began, his manufac-
turing career back in 1929, and
by 1934 was into the pump-
making business in full swing,
His plant was located' at the

The Hearn Wholesale Ltd. firm
was established in 1953 to han-

Duff Thompson came on the
scene in 1955 and three years
later Mr. Epps was 'bought out.
The two . fining moved' to the•

Mr. Thompson came to. Clin-

He graduated With a BASc. at

in Modern Business Adininist-

'then was sales manager of the

with offices in Mexico, MiSsouri

in the Royal Canadian Navy,
retiring with the rank .of Lieut.
Commander. Then after 'a tour

One unique item in' the show-
room is a device for watering
cattle. The cows pump 'their
own' water. Though they must
drink one at a time, the pump
is an efficient one, working ei-
ther off a pond, a well, or a
stream. One unit is' capable of
watering a herd of 40 anthnals.
Enough space? Well, after
one year the building is
already overflowing, and con-

ter the office details.
Probably the major item of
manufacture are foot-valves.
These are • universally used,
coast-to-coast, in all types of
pumping equipment. Though
there are other makers of
toot-valves in the Dominion, the
local firm is. the major manu-
facturer of these in .Canada.
There is a special machine in
the Eppt plant which turns
out foot valves almost auto-
matically. Another rapidly
welds the bras's screen, which
circles each one. Still another
machine automatically cuts up
a 12-foot length of brass, and
threads it to make threaded
screws' for the valve.
A valve controls the intake
of water in water systems. The
Epps firm has accounts across
Canada for these,
Bill Hearn reports that there
are 85,000 pumping systems be-
ing installed in homes 'across
Canada each year. This makes:
the potential of sales interest-
ing. to say the least. The Epps
plant is 'one of a dozen engaged
in 'this' type of manufacture,
In recent years the Model
A-100 Epps pump which was
modeled, tried and proven by
Clifford H. Epps, Clinton,
through the years since 1929,
has been continually improved.
"We've increased the perform-
ance immensely," said Mr.
Hearn, "without disturbing the'
easy servicing qualities of the
Epps pump which h,as• made it
famous."

We won't be satisfied
until everybody knows!
A lot of .people .in Clinton have heard about our "Night-Economy"
Plan—that wonderful money-saving
plan which 'provides you with double
value on station-to-station long dist-
ance calls of 10 minutes or more
between points in Ontario and Que-
bec, any evening after nine o'clock.
We've heard 'people around town
talking about it and we know a lot
of folks have taken advantage of it.
Nevertheless, a recent survey show-
ed that there are still a large nun-
bee of people who don't know about
the plan . . people who are missing
the best bargain in long distance calling ever offered by our company. We won't be satisfied until everybody in
Clinton knows about it! So let's remind everybody once again about this low cost long 'distance service.
* It's available from 9 p.m. to 4.30 a.m.
* It applies to station-to-station calls.
* It is effective between points in Ontario and Quebec.
' HERE'S HOW IT WORKS: The first five minutes are
charged at low night rates; there's no extra charge for the
second five minutes. After that every TWO additional min-
utes are charged as ONE.
