Probably the major item of manufacture are foot-valves. These are • universally used, coast-to-coast, in all types of pumping equipment. Though there are other makers of toot-valves in the Dominion, the local firm is. the major manu- facturer of these in .Canada. There is a special machine in the Eppt plant which turns out foot valves almost auto- matically. Another rapidly welds the bras's screen, which circles each one. Still another machine automatically cuts up a 12-foot length of brass, and threads it to make threaded screws' for the valve. A valve controls the intake of water in water systems. The Epps firm has accounts across Canada for these, Bill Hearn reports that there are 85,000 pumping systems be- ing installed in homes 'across Canada each year. This makes: the potential of sales interest- ing. to say the least. The Epps plant is 'one of a dozen engaged in 'this' type of manufacture, In recent years the Model A-100 Epps pump which was modeled, tried and proven by Clifford H. Epps, Clinton, through the years since 1929, has been continually improved. "We've increased the perform- ance immensely," said Mr. Hearn, "without disturbing the' easy servicing qualities of the Epps pump which h,as• made it famous."
