Last week also the Minister:
introduced amendments to The
Dead Animal Disposal Act deo-
igned to insure that meat froan
fallen or dead animals will not
again enter the rnarket for hu-

amendments will strengthen the
Act and are intended to insure
that the Government will be

Mr. Stewart explained that this
requirement will in no way hin-
der the use of such meat for
legitimate purposes outside the
market for human consumption.
What the Government is do-
ing is preventing the iliIlciit of-
fering of this •type of meat to
the public because it is now
mandatory tor those engaged
in the' dead stock business,
when a ,dead animal is butch-
ered, to lapply powdered char-
coal to the surface of the meat
and then to place it in con-
tainfers clearly marked "unfit
for human consumption".
Prohibits Sale
The BM 'aline prohibits the
sale of meat for human. con-
sumption from art establish-
ment that is engaged in the
processing of dead or fallen an-
imals. This will prevent any
dead animal • operation from
having any relationehip with
any other busineas connected
with the slaugtatering of aim -

Mr. Stewart explained that

that mealt which is consumed in

the amendments to The Dead

In conclusion 1" might say
that it would appear. that the
Legislature cennot'possibly rise
before Easter.
While a lane volume of leg--
islation has beemeeither proces-
sed or is in the various stages
of processing, there is still much
work 'to be done in connection
with the legislative program.
The estimates of such important
departments as Education,
Municipal Affairs, Attarney
General, Lands and Forests and
Public Welfare are still to be
opened for legislative approval,
as r write this report today.
