A phone call from Ken Engel-
stad last night informed the
News-Record' 'that the Lions-
sponsored midget hockey team
had beaten Exeter 9-5, and
thereby win the WOAA group
championship. Engeistad and
John Jacob are the youthful
coaches of the team.
Exeter won the first game
two weeks ego 6-5, then Clinton
took the second game here 12-2.
Clinton was to 'have played
in Exeter last Wednesday but
phoned Exeter and informed
them that roads and visibility
were not good and could the
game be postponed.
Clinton Legion - sponsored

WOAA group title in two
straight games over Wingham.
CDC! Basketball
Teams Lose Out
To Seaforth Boys
CDCI—Last Friday, in terms
of basketball, was a disappoint-
ing day for the Clinton Colleg-
iate. Both the senior and jun-
ior teams lost to the opposing
Seaforth teams.
In the senior game, Seaford."
gained .a leading edge on the
Clinton seniors which, try as
they might, the home team
could only decrease for a few
moments at a time in the sec-
ond half of the game. The scor-
ing ended in a 36-27 defeat for
Clinton. High scorer for Lin-
ton was Tony Verhoef with 15
paints. Ben Akker led Seaforth
with ten paints. The loss of
this game indicates the end of
the season for the seniors in the
league.
The junior team of tee col-
legiate held a slight edge over
the Seaforth juniors in the first
quarter. They lost this however
in the second quarter and the
scores swayed alternately back
and forth in the second quar-
ter. The second half saw the
junior Redinen sway under the
renewed energy of .the Seaforth
team and the game resulted in
a 27-23 win for the visitors.
High scorer for Clinton was
Laurie Colquhoun with six
points, and for Seaford", Dave
Mills with eight points.
This lose' for Clinton colleg-
iate juniors does not mean that
they have lost ihe title but that
they -have ' tied with Seaforth
for it. Optimistic predictions
venture to say that the juniors
will defeat Seaforth and thus
take the trophy, tomorrow„

Seemingly anxious for the
group title under any circum-
stance. Exeter informed group
convener J. Patterson of Sea-
forth that the •trip •could have
been made. Clinton was in-
formed that the game had to be
forfeited.
At a WOAA meeting in See-
forth Monday night Clinton
was allowed to resume the
playoff. WOAA president Ing-
lis and business manager Alf.
Lockridge attended the meet-
mg. According to Mr. Engel-
stad, Clinton's defence was ably
presented by Hugh R. Hawkins,
a past president of the WOAA,
and Doug Andrews.
The championship was thor-
oughly clinched on Tuesday
night 'here when Clinton went
on a five-goal scoring rampage
in both the second and third
periods, The score was tied 1-1
at the end of the first, mainly
due to the stellar goal tending
for Wingham.
