and Mrs. George Wise, RR 3, Clinton. Mrs. Okahashi will be in the store for
several weeks, ready to instruct customers in, the methods of using the new

A;.e you tired of routine br-
eakfasts? Usually people sit
clown to juice, toast and coffee
in the morning - and have lit-

Apples offer a welcome ch-
ange from this routine. The
fresh, appetizing tang of an
apple is a good start for any
day, a 'real "eye-opener". Be -

Apples are also important for
other reasons. Children, espec-
ially, Should be encouraged to
eat more apples every day. Re-

the teeth particles left there
by other foods.

"An Apple a Day . .
More Truth than Poetry
Everybody knows that old
saying, "An apple a day keeps
the doctor away."
Perhaps it could be up -dated
a little by putting it this way:
"An apple a day keeps the den-
tist away."
There's more truth than poet-
ry here, too. Apples are among
the best low -sugar foods avail-
able, and their crunchy flesh
removes from teeth many of
the decay - causing particles
left 'by other foods.
According to Dr. G. T. Mit-
ton, raw fruits and vegetables
Such as crisp apples and car-
rots, are almost essential for
good ;dental health. Dr. Mitton,
is professor of dental public
health at the University of
Toronto, and field secretary of
public health for the Ontario
Dental Association.
Dr. Milton tells us to look
at the Eskimo's eating habits.
His Monotonous diet of cparse
arid fibrous foods results in an
ethicist total lack of tooth de-
cay. Furthermore, the Eskimo's
diet aids in keeping the .gums
Stimulated, and helps provide
an even distribution of grind-
ing work for all the teeth.
Processed foods offer many
conveniences but healthy, well -
articulated teeth certainly need
mare exercise than such foods
provide. For this reason, apples
merit an exhalted place in fan-
ily Apples today are
available in good supply at
most food markets throughout
the year. Refrigerated storage
plants keep apples in perfect
condition until they are distrib-
uted to the markets - whether
late in October, or early in
April.
It 'is wise to remember that
apples need a cool temperature
to maintain their high color
'and taste appeal. For this rea-
Son they should never be left
out overnight, 'but should be
placed in the refrigerator along
with other perishable food
items.
Bath the increase of papule-.
ton since the present sewage
system was installed, and the
anticipated growth in Clinton,
makes it very urgent that the
to should not delay in get-
ting a 'plan to inctease size of
the system.

ore inch strips across the ribs
so you have something looking
like a lot of machinegu,n belts,
separate each rib with a knife
and place in a bawl until ready
to cook; % ow of mazola or
eoolthig oil; clove of garlic, flat,
toned With a knife end chopped
up, put Into a little clash for
vvhile; have close at hand, two
tablespoons of white sugar; %
cup of soya bean sauce, leave
it in the bottle, and now the
secret a large fry pan
with a lid.
Pour the Oil into the fry pan
and put the heat on high, when
it's tog hot the oil will smoke.
Drop in the ribs and cook, and
(in the manner I once wrote
this recipe down for a friend)
cover them, take the cover off,
turn them aver, cover them,
uncover them, etc, etc., until
they're cooked.
You will know wnen ;they're
cooked because the meat will
be sign/liken away from the
bone on both ends.
Put the lid on the fry pan
and pour all of the oil into a
container, 'turn the heat down
to low medium and put the
open fry pan back on the ele-
ment. Prop in the garlic pieces,
move them all about, mix their
in with the meat and shake on
the sugar. When that's done
pour on the bean sauce, stir
them, watch' the sauce froth
and make sure each piece of
rib is covered with the sauce.
Pour the whole mess into a
casserole and serve with the
chicken wings and steamed rice.
Something nice, too, is chil-
led white wine served with the
dinner. I usually buy two bot-
tles of wine, one for dinner and
one for cooking.. Of course
there's no wine in this recipe
so the chef and his assistants
might nibble on this one.
