House Moved From
Auburn District
To Blyth Village
(Auburn Corresponednt)
Village of Auburn residents
were surprised last weekend to
see a house being moved down
the north road from the West-
field district to a new location
in the village of Blyth. This
same house was moved from
Auburn over 24 years ago by
Howard •and Douglas Campbell
and was at that time on the
property which now belongs to
Harry Beadle behind the house
where Mrs, Charles Straughan
resides.
It had been occupied for
many yoars by the late Mr. and
Mrs. Archie Robinson and to
older residents of the district
it was known as the old Searles
property.
This two-storey frame house
on the farm of Douglas Camp-
bell had been purchased by
Russel Cook and they had oc-
cupied it for the past three
months. W. Russell Parsons
and Sons, of Staffa, Moved the
structure in two sections.
The household furniture (even
to the decorated Christmas
tree) remained in place during
the moving, a distance of ten
miles, They came via the
Boundary Road to Auburn and
then, on the Cot -an Road to
Blyth.
Many of the residents recal-
led the filet moving which
took place in the month of
June and two steam engines
were used to haul the main part
of the house which had been
placed on what is called "Beg-
gies", These steam engines, be-
longed to the Westfield Syn-
dicate and Alex Wells.
The kitchen and woodshed
were hauled on et/agate again
last week"similar to the way in
which they had left the village.
Hyde() and telephone erenn
assisted. in removing their lines
and the district was without
hydro and telephone service for
some time.
COIN
..NOTES..
(By JACK C. DIETRICH)
This week I would like to
discuss Canada's rarest coin,
the 1921 half dollar, There
was 206,398 halves minted for
1921 but due to such large
mintings in previous years most
areas had a surplus of halves,
and there was no demand un-
til 1929.
So then, to cover this de-
mand, the mint minted new
1929 halves and melted down
most of the 1921 halves. Some
of 1921's got out into circula-
tion, but only a few.
Vast year a bank teller in
Winnipeg found one and also
one was found here in Clinton
and both were sold far a con-
siderable sum. This coin natal,
ogues at $800.00 in Very Good:
condition .to $4,000.00 in Un
circulated condition. •
So this proves that rare coins
can still be found if you know
what to look for. Good hunting
in 1962. J.C.D.
