Thompson, Hardeman donate detectors to FDNH Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman, joined Doug DeRabbie from the Insurance Bureau of Canada to put additional carbon monoxide detectors in the homes of Huron-Bruce residents and to raise awareness that they are needed in all homes. “Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, but many of these tragedies can be prevented by installing a CO detector,” said Hardeman. “It is particularly important in the winter months to ensure your family is protected by making sure vents aren’t blocked and that you have a functioning carbon monoxide detector.” Thompson explained that you can reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning by: • checking to make sure vents, exhausts and chimneys are clear; • having fuel-burning appliances serviced regularly; and • getting a carbon monoxide detector and checking it whenever the time changes to ensure it is working. Last year the Ontario Legislature passed the Hawkins Gignac Act, a private members bill introduced by Hardeman, requiring carbon monoxide detectors in Ontario homes with gas, wood- or oil- burning appliances, or an attached garage, and establishing Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week, beginning Nov. 1 each year. The bill was named after a Woodstock family of four that tragically lost their lives after a blocked fireplace exhaust filled the house with carbon monoxide. “Carbon monoxide is dangerous because you can’t see it, taste it or smell it,” said Thompson. “The only way to ensure you and your family are protected is to reduce the risk of leaks and to get a detector.” ,+*)('&%$)#")!+*)+# %')*'#) %)%)!+*)'%)')')*)*')%) !)'#)!+*)$#*)!)!+*) *"*$!)!%(*)"#)"'(% )')"%*) !#)&'!+*)')$* *'!*)!+*)#) !+%)+# %')*'#)+')!#)#""*)) !)!+*)#)*!+)*' !+$'*) %'$*)*)* %* *)%)!+*) %(#!'$*)#")"'(% )!+*)%!) #")&##)+*' !+)')# %&)!#&*!+*) !#)# %*)!+*)*!)+*' !+)$'*) "#)#)$#((%!%* )*+' ")#")#) #')#")%*$!# ) #$' ) %#)#((%!!** )))))))))))) +%$%' )!'"" )# !** ))))))))))) % %'%*)')#'!%# )) *)%+)#)')#)')+') ')+*' !+)+# %')*'# Join us Mon. - Sat. 7:00 am - 2:00 pm Thank you to all our customers Holiday Hours: Closed Dec. 25 - Jan. 1 Call 519-887-9517 Merry Christmas Happy New Year 1862 ~ 2014 We'd like to step in with our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
