The Citizen, 2014-12-25, Page 34PAGE 34. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2014. Spaghetti, cookies, roast beef make Santa’s menu The students in Mrs. Binotto- Peel’s Grade 1C Class at Maitland River Elementary School had a lot of traditional and not-so-traditional ideas when The Citizen asked them what they thought a traditional Christmas Eve meal in the Claus house would look like. “Santa would wear his red hat with a pom-pom on it to dinner and eat spaghetti. I know that because I saw a spaghetti piece he left on my table from his beard once. Then he would have cookies and drink milk.” Cierra C. “Santa eats chicken, corn and potatoes. He has to eat healthy and eat that kind of stuff so he can be strong and deliver presents.” Ashlyn H. “He eats cookies for dinner because he needs to get ready to eat cookies all night long. I don’t know why he likes cookies so much, just because I guess.” Denise M. “Santa and Mrs. Claus eat snowflakes because they live in the snow in a little cabin and there are a lot of snowflakes there. Santa just eats and eats and gets ready to eat lots of cookies.” Jasmine D. “Santa can’t eat crunchy stuff. He has to eat things like potatoes and corn and soft stuff because he has a wiggly tooth.” Isla d. “I think that Mrs. Claus would make spaghetti because it’s good. Santa would like it because he can put parmesan cheese on it and that’s what makes spaghetti good.” Broghan D. “Santa gets ready on Christmas Eve by having a lot of pies. He eats pumpkin, cherry and candy cane pies so that he has enough energy to guide his reindeers through the Christmas snow and give out gifts.” Nellee F. “Mrs. Claus makes chicken and French fries for Christmas Eve. I don’t know why Santa likes them, I just know that he likes to eat chicken and French fries.” Mia H. “Santa eats Christmas cookies and milk for dinner on Christmas Eve. He really likes those things because I know that he drank all the milk and ate all the cookies that I had at my house last year.” Ava S. “Santa eats milk and cookies for dinner and he also likes sub sandwiches. The elves make them for him. He likes to eat a foot-long sub with cheese.” Miles M. “Santa likes roast beef first because I think he likes what I like and that’s what we usually have for dinner at home. Then he doesn’t have dessert because everyone puts cookies out for him when he gives us presents.” Sarah H. “Santa likes milk and cookies for dessert. That’s why people leave them out for him all the time. But he has to eat something else so I think he likes bologna sub sandwiches. I don’t know why, he just does.” Connor M. “I think that Mrs. Claus would make red meatballs for Santa Claus because he likes red. But meatballs aren’t enough so he puts soya sauce on the meatballs. I like soya sauce.” Hayden J. “Mrs. Claus has to make turkey for Christmas Eve dinner. She makes lots of turkey and berry-red ice pops because he likes the colour red. He likes ice pops because I like ice pops.” Madison L. “Santa eats cookies. He has to eat a lot of cookies to get ready for all the other cookies that kids give him around the world. He likes chocolate chip cookies and white milk. Then he likes to drink hot chocolate because it keeps him warm and tastes good with cookies.” Tyler M. “Santa would have to eat fruit for supper so he could be healthy. He would eat fruits like broccoli and grapes. He would have chocolate chip cookies for dessert because he always has cookies for dessert.” Adler S. “Mrs. Claus is going to make beef pie for Santa Claus for his Christmas Eve dinner. He needs something good like beef pie. He likes it so he won’t go hungry while he goes sleighing. He has cookies for dessert from other people’s houses so Mrs. Claus doesn’t have to worry about that.” James S. “Santa Claus would have a ham sandwich for dinner on Christmas Eve because I like ham sandwiches. There would be lettuce, cheese, ham and other stuff and really good, soft bread.” Morgan S. “Santa likes cookies so I think he would eat cookies for supper. He would eat normal cookies, just like chocolate chip cookies.” Landon V. “I think that Santa would ask Mrs. Claus to make him a meat sandwich, like a liverwurst sandwhich, because he has a lot of houses to visit and he needs to keep his energy up. Then he is going to drink milk. I’ve given him milk so I know he likes it.” Maddie P. “Santa would like fried chicken drumsticks, pizza with ginger ale and cake for dessert, as well as cookies and donuts.” Robert J. Not exactly a turkey feast Mrs. Binotto-Peel’s Grade 1C class had some fairly unique ideas when it came time to tell The Citizen what they thought Santa and Mrs. Claus had for dinner on Christmas Eve before the magical gift-delivering man took to his sleigh.
