It's a Shear Thing
Gr. 1B puts meat on the menu
Meat is back on the menu
Students in Maitland River Elementary School’s Mrs. Stapleton’s Grade 1B class had several
common themes when asked what Santa and Mrs. Claus eat for dinner on Christmas Eve, but
one very prominent theme was that Santa enjoys a lot of meat of all types. (Denny Scott photo)
A lot of students in Mrs.
Stapleton’s Grade 1B class at
Maitland River Elementary School
felt that Santa really likes to eat meat
when The Citizen asked them what
kind of spread the Claus family has
for Christmas Eve.
“I think he might have some
chicken noodle soup. He lives in
such a brrrr-y place. He’s freezing
cold so he needs something to warm
him up. Then he would have some
cookies because he likes sugar.”
Mischaela A.
“I think that Santa Claus skips
dinner on Christmas Eve. I know
about Santa from television and
from my books and games and it
never says he eats before he goes.
He just eats the cookies and treats on
the way and drinks milk.”
Nathan A.
“He has turkey, chicken and beef
for dinner before he goes out giving
presents because it’s really good for
you. That way he can stay up all
night and deliver all the presents and
also have all the cookies because he
finished his dinner first.”
Wyatt C.
“I think that Santa Claus has a
Christmas dinner just like my
family. We have chicken, meat,
juice, tomato juice, cookies, milk
and chocolate milk and Mrs. Claus
makes carrots for the reindeer and
makes some treats and cakes and
gingerbread for Santa.”
Conner D.
“I think that Santa has to try and
lose weight so he eats healthy. He
just has a small piece of chicken on
a plate and a glass of chocolate
milk.”
Luke F.
“Santa really likes milk and
cookies so he has milk and cookies
before he visits good boys and girls
and has more milk and cookies
because they make him so special
and so fat.”
Landis H.
“Santa likes cookies! He eats all
the cookies he can when he visits
people and before that he eats
chocolate chip cookies and
chocolate cookies and normal milk
to drink with them. Then he drinks
chocolate milk because chocolate
stuff is always better.”
Samantha H.
“I think that Mrs. Claus makes a
big feast for Santa Claus and that
there is turkey and mashed potatoes
because they are good. Then they
have green ice cream with the
chocolate things in them and milk to
drink because sometimes that ice
cream makes you thirsty.”
Kaden H.
“I think Mrs. Claus probably
makes soup and bakes cookies for
Santa. He would have chicken
noodle soup because it probably has
noodles in it, which he needs for
energy.”
Rayna J.
“I think Santa would have
something healthy like pasta before
he went to deliver presents. I think it
would probably be spaghetti. It
tastes good and gives you a lot of
energy.”
Aria L.
“I think Santa likes Kraft Dinner
before he goes out on Christmas
because it’s full of cheese.
Sometimes I like mac and cheese.
He just has a lot of Kraft Dinner.”
Addison N.
“I think he would have like a
Thanksgiving dinner on Christmas
Eve. He would have turkey because
Santa eats a lot of cookies so he
would want to have something that
isn’t dessert to be a little healthy.”
Ellee P.
“I think Santa Claus would like
cookies and milk on Christmas Eve,
but before that he would have two
hot dogs.”
Steven N.
“Mrs. Claus makes soup. I think
she makes all the tomato soup
because it’s red and Santa is red and
he would eat all the soup. She makes
apple pie for dessert because it just
tastes good.”
Karlee P.
“I think that Mrs. Claus and Santa
might eat cookies because Santa just
wants a light snack before he goes
out. Mrs. Claus would bake cookies
to be nice and to get him ready for
more cookies.”
Peyton S.
“Santa likes noodles, so I think he
would have spaghetti for dinner
before he went out to give presents
out. I think he would have apple pie
for dessert then they would have
Christmas pie because sometimes
you get lucky and get two pies.”
Addison S.
“I think Santa would have raisin
