M-T’s industrial plan continues
Morris-Turnberry Council is
prepared to push forward with the
joint industrial land project in Lower
Town and Wingham.
The project, which is a joint-effort
among North Huron, Morris-
Turnberry and the Huron County
Planning Department, received
Rural Economic Development
(RED) funding to help prepare lands
north of Wingham for potential
development.
Huron County Planners Susannah
Reid and Denise Van Amersfoort
have led the plan, however Van
Amersfoort was absent from the
council meeting on Dec. 16 when
council decided to move ahead with
the project.
The project consists of five stages
including an inventory of land,
identifying planning requirements
for the land, preparing what
planning documents can be prepared
at the time, dealing with zoning
issues and then updating planning
documents. Currently, the project is
working on archaeological studies of
potential developable lands owned
by individuals interested in being
involved with the project.
A stage one archeological survey
was completed on the lands and
Reid was approaching Morris-
Turnberry Council to determine if
the municipality wished to go ahead
with the stage-two surveys with
agreeable landowners.
Council approved several of
Reid’s recommendations, including
moving on with the stage two study,
requesting that the Ministry of
Tourism and Culture and Sport
expedite the review of the stage one
survey findings.
Mayor Paul Gowing said he was
very happy to have the project
moving forward.
“Shovel-ready land is important to
have for a municipality,” he said.
“Municipalities with an inventory of
shovel-ready land are going forward
and progressing. This is something
I’m strongly behind.”
The RED funding provides 50/50
funding for the project, meaning that
the remaining half of the cost of the
surveys has to be recovered through
taxes or costs passed on to the
landowners.
Merry Christmas

this season be offered each month
and that we see the good in every
person all year through. And like the
first Christmas, we could be like the
shepherds and welcome new friends;
like the kings, we can go out of our
way to bring gifts and like the
angels, we can just appear,
reminding the community that all is
well in God’s world.
This week and next year we can
all do our part by offering peace,
hope, joy and love and passing it on.
From the Graber and Watson
world we wish you a very Merry
christmas. May you find the peace
and joy that makes your life very
good.
The Municipality of Central Huron Council and
Municipal Staff join together to wish you
peace and serenity this holiday season.

NEWS
FROM BELGRAVE
Helping them down
Students from Maitland River Elementary School and
Howick Central Public School underwent some extensive
safety patroller training to help make them an effective part
of a bus evacuation if the need should arrive. The training,
which was held on Dec. 18 at the Emergency Services
Training Centre (ESTC) just outside of Blyth was taught by
OPP officers. Shown above participating in a rear-door
evacuation drill are, from left: OPP Constable Kevin Martin
and Maitland River students Spencer Baird, Grace Nixon
