Mr. Wm. iFraser received word of
the death of his cousin Mrs. Frank
Paul, who passed away at her home
in Sarnia on Wednesday, October 19.
Mr. >S. J. Elliott left Sunday for
an extended visit with friends and
relatives in the United States and
expects to be awdy until the New
Year.

S. J. Sweitzer spent the last week
helping his brother, Matthew Sweit
zer, of Stephen, who fell from a barn
breaking his arm and several ribs a
few weeks ago.
Mrs, C. W. Kestle attended a din
ner in Mitchell on Friday evening
at the home of Mrs. Wilson in honor
of Miss Ruby Curtis, bride-elect Of
early November.

Exeter Women’s Institute
The October meeting of the Exe
ter Women’s Institute was held on
Tuesday afternoon, October 25th, at
the home of Mrs. B. W. F. Beavers
this being the eleventh annual grand
mother's meeting. There was a to
tal attendance of 36, including 20
grandmothers. The president, Mrs.
Walker, presided over a short busi
ness meeting. The program open
ed with the singing ef the Institute
Ode. Mrs. Walker gave the grand
mothers a hearty welcome on behalf
of the Institute, The program con
sisted of favorite songs and Mrs. R.
Fletcher sang two beautiful solos
that were much appreciated. The
guest speaker of the afternoon was
Rev. Mr. Copeland who gave an in
teresting and instructive address. A
special feature of the afternoon was
the giving of three prizes. First, to
the oldest grandmother in Exeter;
Mrs, Beavers; second, ihe grand
mother born the longest distance
from Exeter, Mrs. N. Ogden; third,
for the youngest grandmother pres
ent, Mrs. Bierling. The meeting clos
ed with singing 'God Save the King’.
Mrs. Beavers and her committee
served a dainty lunch and a social
hour was spent.

Mr. and Mi’s. J. R. C. Moffatt left
by automobile today for Niagara
Falls to meet Major James Moffatt,
O.'B.E., of the Indian Army who ac
companied by his wife is enroute for
Hong Kong where he will resume
his post with the British Govern
ment.
N. Stanlake & Son, who have been
operating a milk route in Exeter are
preparing to install a new pasteuri
zation plant in compliance with the
regulations for milk delivery in Ex
eter which will become effective the
begnning of next year.
Miss Annie Handford was called
to Toronto a couple of weeks ago
owing to the serious Illness of her
nephew Mr. Clifford Griffith, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. 'Griffith. We are
pleased to report that CliffOrd is
showing signs of improvement.
