Clerk 80TH BIRTHDAY rd. 12, ■14, A birthday celebration was held at the home of Mr. Gilbert Duncan in Usborne Township Wednesday ev­ ening when some seventy guests paid tribute to Mr. John Duncan on the occasion of his 80th milestone. Old time songs were enjoyed and greet­ ings from the Thames Road Church were conveyed in a short speech by Rev. Mr. Mair. Mr. Duncan is enjoy­ ing remarkably good health. He remembers the early pioneer days in Usborne. Best wishes were extend­ ed to him for many more years of health and happiness. • PAPER A DAY LATE When a holiday cumes on Monday it is necessary for some members of the Times-Advocate staff to work away on into t’he night both Tuesday and Wednesday nights in order that the paper will be ready for distribu­ tion Thursday morning, Tuesday night we quit work shortly after eleven o’clock (something very un­ usual) and after toiling through the intense heat Wednesday work was resumed for a couple of hours in the evening and we concluded that was enough under the circumstances. Consequently the'paper is a day late this week. Hugh scene their Lucan Resident Dies William J. Scott, a prominent resident of Lucan, died Tuesday af­ ternoon in Victoria Hospital, Lon­ don, in his 81st. Deceased was born in London Township. He was a cab­ inet maker and for over 40 years was engaged in the furniture busi­ ness in several of the largest cities in Canada and the United States. For nearly 20 years ne has lived re­ tired in ’Lucan. He was never mar­ ried and leaves one sister, Mrs. Al­ fred A. Garret, of Lucan.
