The first open air 'concert for this season will be given by the Hensall Citizens Band at the Band Stand on Saturday evening of this week. Mr, and Mrs. Archie Graham, of London, were week-end visitors with Mrs. Graham’s sisters Mrs. Carrie Ballantyne and Miss Katie Scott. Reeve Armstrong, of Hay Twp., and Reeve Shaddick, oif Hensall, are in Goderich this week attending the June session of the County Council. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Gram, of Lan­ sing Mich., and Miss Ada Gram, of Detroit, were week-end visitors with their parents Mr. and Mrs. George Gram. Mr. Ed. Fink moved his house­ hold effects on Tuesday from Han­ over to Hensall where 'he and his family will occupy apartments in the Hemphill block. Mr. David Douglas and Mrs. Esther Wilcox, both of Silby, North Dakota, visited here last week with Miss Eliza Newell and Mrs. Mary McKaig. The new grain warehouse being built here for Mr. Geo. Thompson is being pushed rapidly ahead and be completed in time for the grain trade. This was the first time Mr. Hudson was able to be out in over two years owing to a severe illness. Mr. and Mrs. J. Cann and Will, of Usborne; Mrs. T. Mr. Andrew McKenzie son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McKenzie, of Stephen Tavp., and Theology student of Tor­ onto University, occupied the pulpit of Carmel Presbyterian church on Sunday morning. Mr. McKenzie is a splendid speaker and will no doubt have a brilliant future ahead of him. At the evening service the pastor, Rev. Mr. Young occupied his own pulpit and took for his subject: “What Seek Ye?’’ Baseball Notes ■Goderich defeated Hensail in the first game played here in the Huron- Perth League series on Monday ev­ ening 5 to 1. The visitors scored three runs in the third inning and two in the final, Hensall’s lone run was made in the second inning. Fritzly pitched for Goderich and Kipfer for Hensall. A large crowd was present to witness the game. The Hensall baseball diamond is being nicely graded for the ball play­ ing season. Some improvements are also being made at the park, Anniversary Services Anniversary services were held in the United church on Sunday last, Rev. Mr. Moir, of Hamilton, being the guest speaker for the day and preached two very excellent ser­ mons. Mr. Moir is quite advanced in years but is a wonderfully active man. Special music was furnished by the choir, Mr. W. O. Goodwin taking the special solo parts in the anthem at the morning service. At the evening service a quartette was rendered. The church was beauti­ fully decorated with lovely flowers and large Congregations attended both services. Presented with Fountain Pen The closing meeting for this sea­ son of the Young People’s Society of the United church was” held in the basement of the church on Mon­ day evening and took the form of a hard-time social. The following was the program: Guitar selection by Misses Kathryn Drysdale and Pearl Harpole; quartette by Rutih Hess, Patsy McDonell, Lenora Morrington and Shirley Hedden; solo, Miss Bella Smale; a musical skit in pantomine by Kathryn Drysdale and Pearl Har­ pole. A number of games were played which were in charge of Ian Filshie. The prize for the best hard time costume was won by Mrs. Chesney. All present who were not in costume were fined. A hard time lunch was served consisting of 'home made biscuits and jam. During the evening the pastor of the church, Rev. Arthur Sinclair, was presented with an address and a fountain pen. Spring flowers and plants tastefully arranged made beautiful decoration. The church was filled for "both services. Rev. D. McTavish, of London, was the guest speaker for both services and very ably delivered two insiring messages. Special music was provided by the choir assisted by Mr. Chas. Godbolt who contributed two fine solos. Rev. Mr. McTavfeh was entertained to dinner at the home of Mr. Cecil ■Skinner and to tea at the 'home of Mr. Wm. Oke. 'On Thursday, June Sth the Cen­ tralia school section will hold their picnic on the school grounds. Home and School Club sports’ com­ mittee are planning an afternoon of sports with good prizes. Come and join in the fun and bring your lunch basket. ’Sports commence at 3 p.m. Centralia defeated Crediton in a baseball league game in Crediton on Friday evening last by a score of 3 to 2. In Ailsa Craig on Monday night the Centralia team were de­ feated by the Ailsa Craig team by a score of 11 to 10. The morning service in the church here on Sunday next will be in charge of the Young People’s Union, Rev. Kir.
