Young, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Kinloss, oc­ cupied the pulpit of Carmel Presbv- terian church here at both services on Sunday. Rev, Mr. Young is the father of Rev. W. A, Youn'g, of Carmel church here who was in Kin­ loss on Sunday preaching annivers­ ary services in his father’s church there., W. M. S. Birthday party The W,M.!S. of the United church held a very successful birthday party in the basement of the church on Thursday ‘afternoon with the 'president, Mrs. Cross, presiding. The school room was beautifully decor­ ated with spring flowers for the oc­ casion. There was a good attendance of members. ‘ Mrs. McKenzie, of Eg- mondville, was . the guest speaker and she gave a very interesting and inspiring address. The meeting opened by singing hymn 84 "We Have a Story to Tell the Nations” and all repeating the Lord’s prayer. The following program was given: Solo, by Betty Mickle; guitar selec­ tion, Kathryn Drysdale; piano in­ strumental, Miss Eleanor Fisher; solo. Miss Florence Welsh. The meeting closed by singing a hymn and the benediction. A very dainty lunch was then served and a social half hour spent. At the morning service the church was filled to capacity while several stood in the door ways and a dozen or more cars turned away, being unable to gain entrance. Again in the evening the church an(i gallery were filled. Beautiful bo- quets of tulips and other flowers a- dorned the pulpit. Rev. W. H. Mr. Arthur Haist, who has spent the winter months in Chicago re­ turned home on Saturday last. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ehlers and family of St. Catharines, visited friends in the community on Sunday Mr. Howard Haits, of Pelham, spent the week-end with, friends in the community. The Young People’s League of the Evangelical Church will visit the County Home at Clinton .on Wed* nesday evening June 1st. This is an annual event and is much looked for­ ward to and enjoyed by the inmates at the Home. While growth has been a bit bach- ward in some localities, highly op­ timistic crop reports are heard from many of the farmers. General soak­ ing rains of the past few days have helped the crops wonderfully and in this area the prospects are the brightest in years. The long dry spell proved beneficial as it permit­ ted farmers ample time to complete seeding. Pasture lands in this area are reported in excellent condition. Anniversary Services Large crowds attended the anni­ versary services of Zion Evangelical Church, Sunday, May 22nd, morning and evening. This was the 41st anniversary of the present church building and the 81st anniversary of the organization of the congrega­ tion. Effective decorations with plants and flohvers made a colorful and receptive setting for the ser­ vices. The guest speaker of the day was Rev. Dr. Hirschman of Zion Evangelical Church, Kitchener. The addresses both morning and evening were of a thoughtful and deeply spiritual nature. Mr. Hirschman spoke briefly to the Sunday School on the "Work of a Sunday School Teacher.” At the morning service the United church joined -the Evan­ gelicals in worship and the spacious church was filled. The music of the day was of a high order and was admirably rendered by a large choir ■of 35 members. Mission Circle Meets Members of the Dashwood Evan­ gelical Young People’s Mission Circle surprised Miss Ella Witmer, one of their members, when they gathered at her home on the Gosh­ en Line in honor of her" birthday.
