Mr. Thos. Parlmer opened up his
new butcher shop for business on
Tuesday morning with a fine display
of meats. The shop has been all re
modelled and has a very nice ap
pearance.
A very pleasant afternoon was
spent on Thursday last at the home
of Mrs. Geo. Walker when Mrs.
Roy McLaren’s group of the Ladies'
Aid, of Carmel Presbyterian church
were entertained to a ten cent tea.

Mr. Fred Smallacombe, who re
cently bought the bank building, op
posite the New Commercial Hotel, is
busy this week remodelling the pro
perty, The lower floor which was
uesd as a beauty parlor by Miss B.
Drummond is being made into a
first class restaurant. The upper
floor will be used by Mr. Smalla-
combe and family as a residence.
86th Birthday
Mrs. Richard Welsh, one of Hen
sail’s grand old ladies, quietly cele
brated her 86 th birthday at her
home here on Monday last. She is
in fair health and entertained a num
ber of friends during the day. She
received a number of messages oi
remembrance and telegrams. Mrs.
Welsh is the mother of 12 children
* all whom are living except one son

a meeting in the Town Hall on Wed
nesday evening November 17th with
a good attendance of members pres
ent. Considerable business was dis
cussed and election of officers took

Cross; Secretary, G. M. Drysdale;
Auditors, W. O. Goodwin and F. G.

Tuder. It was decided, to hold a
Community Christmas Tree the date
to be set later and for the cham
ber of Commerce to put on a euchre
and dance on Wednesday evening,
December 1st, the proceeds to go
towards the Christmas Tree. Good
prizes will be given. Muisc by the
Murdoch orchestra.

who was unable to be present. The
installation of officers followed the
address and the program was then
brought to a close by singing God
Save the King. Lunch was served
by the executive of the club. The
next meeting will be held in the
school on Friday evening, December
10th and an invitation is extended
to everybody to be present.

Wedding bells are ringing in the
east.
The funeral was held on Tuesday
afternoon of Mr. Albert Neil? who
passed away in Alexandra Hospital,
Goderich, just ten days after the
death of his wife. Interment was
made in the Exeter cemetery. Both
were taken ill with pneumonia and
were former residents of this com
munity, both were highly respected
and were members of Thames Road
churcih.

the home of Mrs. Wm. Stone. Fol
lowing the opening exercises and
prayer by Rev. Mr. Mair, Mrs. L.
Harris read .the .Scripture lesson.
Thirtiy-nine members responded to
