Parlmer opened up his new butcher shop for business on Tuesday morning with a fine display of meats. The shop has been all re­ modelled and has a very nice ap­ pearance. A very pleasant afternoon was spent on Thursday last at the home of Mrs. Geo. Walker when Mrs. Roy McLaren’s group of the Ladies' Aid, of Carmel Presbyterian church were entertained to a ten cent tea. Miss Emma Johnston and her sis­ ter Mrs. R. J. Ferguson, of Minnea­ polis, Minn., have returned from Windsor where they were attending the funeral of their sister Mrs. Jane E. Shortt. Opening Restaurant Mr. Fred Smallacombe, who re­ cently bought the bank building, op­ posite the New Commercial Hotel, is busy this week remodelling the pro­ perty, The lower floor which was uesd as a beauty parlor by Miss B. Drummond is being made into a first class restaurant. The upper floor will be used by Mr. Smalla- combe and family as a residence. 86th Birthday Mrs. Richard Welsh, one of Hen­ sail’s grand old ladies, quietly cele­ brated her 86 th birthday at her home here on Monday last. She is in fair health and entertained a num­ ber of friends during the day. She received a number of messages oi remembrance and telegrams. Mrs. Welsh is the mother of 12 children * all whom are living except one son I George, who was killed during the ' Great War. Mr, Welsh died about 5 1 years | friends wishes. i I DASHWOOD ZION ago. It was decided, to hold a Community Christmas Tree the date to be set later and for the cham­ ber of Commerce to put on a euchre and dance on Wednesday evening, December 1st, the proceeds to go towards the Christmas Tree. A. of Crediton United Church was held Tuesday November 16th with Mrs. Wright, the president, in the chair for the business part of the meet­ ing. A committee was selected to arrange for a special Sunday to cele­ brate the church’s fifteenth anniver­ sary. Dorene Baker and Lillian Finkbeiner sang a duet and a solo by Lois Swartz. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Cavanagh, of London, were recent visitors with Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Kershaw. (On Friday evening of last week the Home and School Club held a successful meeting at the school. Mr. John E'ssery in his usual cap­ able manner, occupied tihe chair. A good program was given. The ad­ dress of tli,e evening was very ably given by Miss Evelyn Clark in the absence of Mrs. Taylor, of Goderich who was unable to be present. The installation of officers followed the address and the program was then brought to a close by singing God Save the King. Lunch was served by the executive of the club. The next meeting will be held in the school on Friday evening, December 10th and an invitation is extended to everybody to be present. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon of Mr. Albert Neil? who passed away in Alexandra Hospital, Goderich, just ten days after the death of his wife. Interment was made in the Exeter cemetery. Both were taken ill with pneumonia and were former residents of this com­ munity, both were highly respected and were members of Thames Road churcih. The annual meeting of the Thames Road W. A. was f,held last week at the home of Mrs. Wm. Stone. Fol­ lowing the opening exercises and prayer by Rev. Mr. Mair, Mrs. L. Harris read .the .Scripture lesson.
