R. Davidson on Friday evening. A very enjoyable evening was spent by those present. The Council have moved the building 'containing the dressings rooms from the old rink property to the new rink at the park grounds. ■The high board fences have been re­ moved and the lot cleaned up which makes a big .improvement to that -part of Queen St. A service will be held in the Unit­ ed church on Thursday afternoon at 2.45. Rev. W. A. Young, Rev. A. Sinclair and Rev. Hunt will assist and Mr. Chandler will be the speak­ er. A solo will be sung by Mrs. Young and a violin selection /by Miss Greta Lammie A.T.C.M. The Arnold Circle, of Carmel Presbyterian church met at the home of Miss Mabel Workman on Monday, evening. The meeting open­ ed by singing psalm 95 and Miss Workman led in prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the -'secretary and adopted. A business period was held. It ' was decided to hold a. bazaar in the - basement of the church on December 4th. Af­ ter the offering was taken Mrs. W. A. Young gave a very interesting topic on Missionary work. A read­ ing on the Armistice was .given by Miss Irene Hoggarth. The meeting closed by. singing hymn 668 and the Lord’s Prayer .in .unison after which a lunch was served. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent Thursday, November 4th, when the members of the Women’s Association were entertained 'by the W. A. of James St. United church, Exeter. A Missionary program was given in the United church on ’Sunday, No­ vember 7th. Bernice Finkbeiner ( sang a solo and Doris Hill gave a reading. Mr. J. Woodall, as con­ venor of the missionary program, thanked all those who had so will­ ingly assisted in the work through­ out the year. Auto Accident What might have been a very ser­ ious accident happened on Friday night} to Mr. Arthur -Finlyson of Tuckersmith Twp., while driving down to Hensall. Mr. Finlyson ac­ companied by, Miss Beryl Pfaff, of Hensall, had been spending the ev­ ening at Belgrave and when re­ turning to Hensall were run into from behind by a .car driven by a Mr. Williard, a baker of Zurich. Mi\ Wiiliard was accompanied by Miss Annie Carlisle, of Hensall and while near the farm of Mr. Alex‘Monteith, just north of Kippen, the accident happened. The Finlyson car was Sent flying into the. ditch and after going about 50: ft. turned up-side- down. Miss Pfaff was badly burn­ ed by acid from the battery and badly bruised about her head and shoulders. Mr. Finlyson had a severe shaking up. Their car was al­ most a total wreck, In the Williard car Miss Carlisle was severely cut by flying glass. The ladies were taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Monteith and Drs. Smillie and $teer summoned, also traffic Officer Nor- CROMARTY The November meeting of MJS. met on Thursday last (home of Mrs. Wm. Hamilton good attendance, with Mrs. Jas. Hill presiding for the day. Miss Mary Currie read the portion^of the Study Book alloted for the day which gave a vivid acc-0'Uiit of The missionary Mary Gleason, her first work being in Africa among the blacks. Miss Margaret Ham­ ilton sang a very pleasing solo. The roll call topic being the name of a lady missionary was responded to very suitably. After t'he close of the meeting a very dainty lunch was served. x The fowl supper held in the church on Tuesday evening of last week was a* decided success, there being near the five hundred tickets sold. The night was not so pleas­ ant but did not prevent one of the largest gatherings there has ever been. Mr. and Mrs. John Scott attended the wedding of Miss Marie Scott on (Saturday evening last. The wedding took place at sebi'ingville Lutheran church. 'Mrs. Tufford who was on a holi­ day for a month to recuperate from a serious illness returned V Toronto on Friday last. « SHIPKA The regular meeting of the Ladies Aid was held on Wednesday last at the home of Mrs. Wm. Ratz. 12 members and 1 visitor were present. The meeting was opened 'by, the pres­ ident, Mrs. Balter/,, by singing a hymn after which all repeated the Lord’s prayer in unison. The Scrip­ ture lesson was read by Miss P. Keys. After roll call and reports were given plans were made to pack a box at the next meeting for the needy in the West. The society de­ cided- to invite the Crediton ladies on Wednesday, of this week, remainder of the afternoon spent in quilting. I Lunch was serv­ ed by the hostess and the meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs. Al­ bert G’aiser. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Sturdy and Reida, of Goderich, visited relatives here on Sunday. ILast Sunday being Missionary Sunday, Mr. Ed. Lamport gave a re­ port of the S. S. convention which was held in Dashwood on Friday last and a reading by Mrs. A. Webb. 'Miss Marion Gladman, of Exeter, visited over the week-end at the home of Miss Jean McKenzie. Messrs. Earl, Irvin and Simon Ratz and Wm. Lochner left on Mon­ day for a two weeks’ hunting trip through the Georgian Bay.
