Mr. Mandy, of Varna, preach­ ed a very acceptable sermon here last Sunday morning taking for his subject “Prayer.” , The W. M. S. meets Wednesday afternoon of this week in the base­ ment of the Church with Mrs. W. Wynn, convenor of group one in charge of the program. On Thursday evening of this week the Woodham, Kirkton United and Anglican, Anderson and Mount Pleasant churches will put on a “benefit concert” for the Red Cross to help aid the recent flood victims in London. The admission is 25c. for adults and 15c. for children. Anyone wishing to give larger dona­ tions will have the privilege to do so this evening at the concert. Miss Elizabeth Lovegrove R.N., had the honor of receiving the $25. prize for being the most efficient nurse in her class w’hile training in St. Joseph’s Hospital, (London. Mr. Wm. Lovegrove, of London University spent the week-end at his home here. Mrs. Wm, Wynn has returned home from London having spent the winter there with her daughter Miss Evelyn Wynn, Lovegrove officiated in Galt on Rev. M. W, at a wedding last. Harry Hoffman who left home in Dashwood on Tuesday to sail on the S. S. Montcalm from Montreal on Wednesday, to sing in the Coronation Choir was specially honored on Sunday evening. First he was invited to James Street Unit­ ed Church in Exeter, prior to the evening service, on the pretext of attending a rehearsal. When he ar­ rived the choir were waiting him and presented him with a purse of money accompanied by a compli­ mentary address. The presentation was make by Ed. Shapton, while the address was read by Miss Ella Link, in the absence of the choir president Mr. Elford who is ill. He then re­ turned to his -home church in Dash- wood where at the conclusion of the evening service he was called for­ ward by the pastor Rev. H- E. Rop­ pel and presented with another purse of money donated by the congrega­ tion and citizens of the town and in farewell was given good wishes for a safe journey. At both Exeter and Dashwood church services he sang “Green Pastures” by Wilfrid derson. San- Remember Mother’s Day Sunday, May 9th, with Candy from Grieves. CENTRALIA Mrs. A. Proctor and children, of St. Marys, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brooks. Mr. and Mrs. Thos Smith moved into the residence .of Mr. Albert Mitchell last week. Mrs. A. Tapp and son, Mr. Rd. Tapp, of Exeter and Mr. Ellis Tapp, of Simcoe, were visitors on Tuesday of last week with Mr. and Mrs, J. A. Pollard. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hodgins, ot Corbett, were Saturday evening vis­ itors with Mrs. Harness. The Mothers' Day service will be held in the church here on Sunday, May 9 th. Special music will be provided by a male choir. Mr. and Mrs. T. Thompson, of London visited on Sunday with Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Kershaw. Next Sunday, May 9th, will be ob­ served as “Mother’s Day”. A special program is being prepared while a men’s choir will lead the singing. Everyone will be made welcome. Honor mother by coming to church. ,A number of Sunday School work­ ers from Crediton United Church visited our School on Sunday last. Mr. H. Mitchell the Superintendent had charge of the service. A very in­ teresting talk was given by Mr. Ho­ ward Johnston on his work in New Ontario last summer as supply mis­ sionary. Elaine Mitchell and Ken­ neth Taylor rendered two very pleas­ ing vocal duets. They were accom­ panied by Miss Hazel Woodall. These were much, appreciated enjoyed by all. THAMES ROAD and Thames Road Y. P. S. The iThames Road Young People held their weekly meeting in the basement of the church when we entertained the Eiimville Y. P. ’S. The meeting was opened with the President, Mr. Howard Johns, in the chair and the meeting opened with hymn 61 after which all repeated the Lord’s Prayer, then hymn 190 was sung. The Scripture reading was read by Lulu Hunter, tThe talk of the Lesson on “Building*’ was given by Squire Herdman. Eva Pen­ rose read a topic “The Church and Missions.” A very pleasing prayer was offered by Mary- Johns followed by a prayer from Rev. Mr. Penrose. Donald Skinner gave a reading; J. Johns and Harold Clarke favoured us with a duet; Kenneth Johns sang a solo and Mr, Allan Johns gave a reading; musical selection was given by Harold Clarke and Lorna Elford and Kenneth Johns gave a musical number on the guitar and mouthor­ gan.
