The .Hensall merchants are busy decorating their stores and windows and are looking forward to a big Christmas trade. Mr. and Mrs. John Fisher left on Saturday for Windsor wihere they will spend the winter months with members of their family. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Carlisle cele­ brated the anniversary of their wed­ ding day iate very Carlisle presents. The Euchre and Dance put on in the town hall on Wednesday even­ ing last undei* the auspices of the Hensall Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tree Fund was well at­ tended and a very enjoyable time spent. In the eudhre games the first prize for men was won by Dr. Smillie and the second by Mr. Al­ bert Wuerth. The first prize for ladies was won by Mrs. F. Manns and the second by Mrs. Harry Rose of Zurich. The lucky °lunch ticket was won by Mrs. Walker Carlisle-. The first prize for the spot dance was Avon by Miss Wurm and second by Miss Hazel Smith. Tihe music was supplied by the Murdock orchestra and Harry Horton was the floor manager. . The chairman of the Dominion Civil Service accompanied by one of the P. O. Inspectors of the Lon- den district were here on- Monday last to examine-applicants for the position of Post Master of Hensall The examination was announced to be an oral one but was afterwards /changed to a written,"one. There were 12 appli­ cants who wrote the examination Eleven local and one from a dis­ tance most of the applicants were war veterans and have good qualifi­ cations for the position and no douibt a suitable choice will be made soon. Deatli of Isabelle Gordon The death occured on Friday, December 4th at her late home Mill, Street. Hensall, of Isabelle McKay, widow of the late Wm. John Gor­ don, aged 77 years. Mrs. Gordon came to Hensall from Tuckersmith' township a few years ago with her sisters, Miss Mary McKay and Miss Bessie McKay. They purchased the home of ‘the late John Carmichael, on Mill street and have resided there since, iShe has been in poor health for several years, but was only confined to her room for about three weeks, Mrs. Gordon was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McKay and was born in the Township of Tuckersmith where sihe spent the greater part of her life. About forty years ago she married William John Gordon. Mr. Gordon died a few years later. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and highly respected by all who knew her. She is survived by two sisters Miss Mary McKay of Hen­ sall and Miss Marion McKay, of Tuckersmith Township; 2 brothers William McKay", of Tuckersmith and John McKay, of Saginaw, Mich. Mrs. Wesley Nichols, of Grand Bend is a niece of the deceased. The funeral took place from her late home on Monday afternoon in­ terment taking place in the Bruce- field cemetery. Rev. W. A. Young had charge of the funeral services. During the service at the home, Mrs. J. W. Bonthron sang very beautifully “No Night There.’’ The pall bearers were all former 'neigh­ bors of the deceased. During Sat­ urday and Sunday many friends and relatives called at the home to pay their last respects. The Election The election held here on Monday to fill the positions of Reeve and four Councillors, Ernest Shaddick won out for the Reeveship over the present Reeve Owen Geiger by a ma­ jority of 22. Mr. Shaddick receiv­ ed 171 votes and Mr. Geiger 149. George Brock headed the poll for the council with 246 votes, Orville Twitchell 221, William Sheppard 21'9. and William J.Jones 192. Archie Hamilton, a member of this year’s -council went down to defeat with 10,7 votes. A cantata entitled “The Great Deliverer’’ will be given by the choir and a miscellaneous program by the children. Mr. Harry Hoffman spent the week-end in London. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, Wind­ sor, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. R. Baker who have been visit­ ing in Windsor for the past few weeks returned home with them. Dashwood Public School Concert Will be held on Monday evening, De­ cember 21st. Keep the date. Miss Gertie Hoffman is spending a few days with her sister in Kit­ chener this week. Misses Ruth Tiernan and Maida Wein, who are attending Business College in London spent the week­ end at their home here. Next Sunday night will be band night in the Evangelical church. A special program will be given by the band. A cordial invitation is ex­ tended to all to attend. Mrs. Henry Restemeyer returned home after spending a very pleasant time with relatives and friends in Hanover, Palmerston and Mitchell. JAn Amateur Contest was held on Wednesday evening December 2nd under the auspices of the Walther League o.f Zion Lutheran Church, The evening was very much enjoyed by all. Each number on the pro­ gram was splendidly given. There were three prizes awarded which were as follows: First prize to a piano duet given by Mises Helen Nadiger and Reta Fassold; second prize To a piano solo by Miss Helen piano duet given by Misses Helen Nadiger, Helen Luft and Reta Fas­ sold accompanied by Mrs. Maurice Klumpp at the piano. Rev. Luft was chairman for the evening. The judges were Mrs. Arnold Kuntz, Mr. Clayton Pfile and Mr. Martin Laub. Mr. and Mrs. William Benninger, Miss Marguerite Lamport and Mr. Frank Kirt, of Detroit, were week­ end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam. Lamport. Miss Laurene Hirtzel and Mr. M. Hirtzel have returned after spending a few weeks in Detroit. Shower A delightful evening was spent recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kerr, 4th concession, Stephen Twp., when many friends and neighbors gathered in honor of their daughter Lulu Irene, whose marriage takes place this month. On behalf of the friends and neigh­ bors Miss Kerr was presented with a largo decorated basket which con­ tained many beautiful gifts. An ac­ companying address was read by Mr, Frank Triebner, Marion Lovie and Jean Baynham made the presenta­ tion. Miss Kerr made a suitable reply. Mrs. J. Lovie and Mrs. F. Triebner had charge of the evening’s ceremonies and entertainment. The remainder of the evening was spent in games and pastime amusements.
