Green and family, of Port Stanley, are visiting relatives in the district. Mrs. Harry Abrey, of London, spent Sunday with her parents Mt. and Mrs. Colin Hudson. Miss Beryle Pfaff and Miss Hazel Thompson left on Monday to attend summer school at London. Mr. W. R. Davidson has returned home frlom Victoria Hospital, Lon­ don, and is recovering -rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. E. Drummond and Mr. and Mrs. Staff visited with Bill Drummond in Listowel on Sunday. Mr. Harry Wilson has returned to his home in Wloodstock after spend­ ing his holidays with friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Ortwein, of Detroit, visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. T. Huckle and Clifford, of Detroit, visited over the week-end at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Jas. Patterson. Mt. and Mrs. Geo. Laughton, of Toronto, were week-end visitors with Mrs. Laughton’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McDonell. Mr. and Mrs. E. Doerr accompan­ ied by Shirley, Audrey and Florence Twitchell spent a day last week vis­ iting friends at Auburn. 'Mrs. Fred Bonthron has received word Iof the death of her mother, which occurred at her home in France on June 4th. Mr. T. W. Parlmer has been awarded the contract of carrying the mail on rural route No 2. He Com­ menced his new duties on July 2nd. Mrs. A. K. Hutton and her mother Mrs. Alexander have returned home after spending a couple of months visiting relatives in the West. Mfr, and Mrs. Wm. McLaren and three children, of Hamilton, are vis­ iting here with Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore and also with relatives in Kippen. Rev. Mr. Bremner, of Brucefield, will occupy the pulpit of the United church, Hensall, on Sunday, July 12. The m'orning service at 9:45 and the evening service at 7:30. \ There was no service in the pres- ,|}yterian church on Sunday morning last, Mr. Young being at Exeter. In the evening Mr. Young occupied his own pulpit and sang a solo during the service. Florence Welsh visited with in London on Friday. Fred Simmons and son deck in London on Saturday. Mr, Young will take the service at Cav­ en Presbyterian church Exeter each Sunday morning and will occupy his own pulpit in Carmel Presbyterian church, Hensall on Sunday evenings, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Knight and little daughter Ailiene, of Kitchener, were up for the week-end visiting relatives. Their son Howard Knight who has been visiting here for a week or two returned home on Sun­ day with them. Miss Annie Consitt gave a very interesting report on the cion ference branch of the W.M.S. held at Sarnia recently. This was much enjoyed by all present. Mrs. C. Cook and Mrs. Cross reported on visiting the sick and shut-ins for the month after which the meeting was brought to a close with the singing of a hymn and benediction. Decoration and Memorial A large crowd gathered Evangelical cemetery on Sunday af­ ternoon for the decoration of graves and memorial service. Rev. A. E. Pletcih presided and gave a brief ad­ dress. A hymn' “Rock of Ages” was sung after which Rev. Roppel offer­ ed prayer. A ladies’ quartette includ­ ing Mrs. G. Miorlo'Ck, Mrs. H. Mor- lock, Mrs. H. Schenk and Mrs. C. Hoffman sang a selection. Passages from 2nd Corinthians 5th chapter were read. Rev. Rop-pel, of Dashwood gave an impressive and spiritual message suitable for the occasion-. The Stars Sunday School class sang, ‘The Way of the Cross Leads Home’ This beautiful and impressive mem­ orial -closed by singing “Sweet by and By.” The cemetery grounds pre­ sented an excellent appearance and most iof the graves were decorated with flowers. Evangelical Ladies’ Aid The meeting of the Ladies’ Aid and W. M. S. was held in the Sunday School room recently. The president Mrs. D. Finkbeiner, president presid­ ed. After the devotional exercises the roll was called when fourteen re­ sponded and one visitor. The society reported nine -calls, 14 sick visits, 12 treats, 24 bouquets and 3 cards. The different offerings were taken. "”‘“ business of the meeting was transacted. It was decided to our next meeting in the form of a picnic on July 30th. Mrs. Emmery Fahner then took charge of the pro­ gram which opened by a poem and short prayer, followed by a hymn. A poem by Mrs. Hy. Kuhn; piano solo by Miss Marguerite Amy. Mrs. E. Fahner gave the introduction of our new Study Boiok ‘Congo Crosses’ and the first .chapter was given by Mrs. Mabel Ewald. Duett by Mrs. H. F. Eilber and Mrs. Emmery Fahner. The meeting was closed by song and prayer. The Late Mrs. Eilber Mrs. Magdalena Eilber, aged 89 years and 5 months, passed away peacefully July 2nd after several weeks’ illness caused by a 'paralytic stroke. Mrs. Eilber, formerly Mag­ dalena Beaver, daughter of the late Nicholas and Charlotte Beaver. She was born in Puslinch Township, Wellington County, and was later married to. Charles Eilber who pre­ deceased her a number of years ago. She was a loyal member of the Zion Evangelical church, Creditor^. A private service was held at the home of her daughter Mrs. Albert Morlock on Sunday, July 5th at 7 p.m. with the family and relatives by Rev A. E Pletch, pastor of the church. In­ terment took place in the Crediton cemetery. WOODHAM Owing to the illness of the presi­ dent Mrs. Fred Doupe 1st vice, pre­ sided for the July meeting which was held at the home of Mrs. Cecil Camm, T-he meeting was 'opened with quiet music and the theme was “The Christians Use of Time and Money.” A hymn was sung and- Mrs. Clarence Gunning led in prayer. The minutes of the last meeting was read and the roll called by Mrs. F. M’cNaughton. A ’short time was taken for business and at this point it was decided to hold the next meet­ ing in the basement of the church and invite the Mission Band and Baby bands and also the mothers/ of the congregation to attend. Mrs. C. Vessey, of St. Marys to be the guest speaker for this occasion. Mrs. G. Murray, Baby Band Secretary and the president Mrs. W. Switzer to look after the rest iof the program. Two verses of another hymn was sung and Mrs. Jas. Squire read the Scrip­ ture lesson, from Gal. 5th chapter 10-216, this was followed by a piano number by Miss Ethel Wilson; Mrs. Ben Wilson gave a splendid reading “The Christians Use of Time” and Mrs. Arthur Rundle gave another reading on- “The Chistians Use of Money” which was quite interesting. A hymn was sung and Rev. M. W. Lovegrove very ably dealt with the 6th chapter of the Study Book on Africa. Mrs. Fred Doupe brought the meeting to a close by prayer. The president of the W. A. took the chair'and conducted a short business meeting after which a ten cent lunch was served by a committee in charge Mr. and Mrs. James Mills intends celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding on Tuesday of week. Miss Nettie Snier, of London, a Sunday visitor at the home of sister Mrs. Victor Chatten. Miss Violet Squire is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Howard Anderon at Washington. Mrs. Gordon Dykeman and little son .has been holidaying for a few days at the home of her parents here. Rev. M. W. Lovegrove and Mrs. Lovegrove Harry and Tommy leave Monday of this week for Muskoka, for their summer holidays. Rev. Mr. Lovegrove intends returning for a while, but will join them later in the season. Mr. Gordon Camm intends going to the North Country this week for two weeks' vacation. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Anderson, visited last Sunday at her home here and were also the guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Earl, The regular meeting of the Ladies’ Aid was held on- Thursday evening last at the -home of Mrs. Wm, Motz. The meeting opened with the presi­ dent, Mrs. A. Gaiser, presiding by singing hymn “One More Day’s Work for Jesus’’ after which all repeated the Lord’s Prayer in unison. Scrip­ ture lesson- was read by Mrs, Matt. Sweitzer, the 92st Psalm. Roll was called and reports were given. After discussion it was decided to have a picnic at Turnbull's Grove on Wed­ nesday evening, July 8th. A dainty lunch was served by the hostess and the meeting closed with prayer.
