A meeting of the Directors of the (South Huron Weather Insurance Co. was held in the Town Hall on Wednesdaj" afternoon last. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Beavers and little daughter,' of the Thames Rd., were visiting relatives in town on Monday. Miss Hannah Workman is spend­ ing a few days visiting with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Archie McGregor, of Seaforth, The concert put on by the Swiss Bell Ringers in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening last was very good but not very well attended. The Village Treasurer, received a cheque from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario -for $87.86 the same being Hensall’s share of the Beer and Wine License issued in the village. (Mr. William Joynt who has been in Byron Sanitorium for several months taking treatments was oper­ ated on recently' for adhesions of one lung. Mir. Joynt’s many friends hope this will prove beneficial and that he will soon recover his health. Douglass; vocal solo, Miss Florence Welsh; reading, Miss J. Murray, “One Christmas Eve”; a pioneer story written by Dir. Grassick. The group leaders reported the amount raised by1 their various groups. All the reports were very satisfactory and showing the total amound rais­ ed during the year amounted to over $400. The Masons of the Huron Lodge, Hensall,’ had a very interesting and well-attended meeting on Monday evening last, the occasion being the first official visit of Dr. Forester, of Stratford, the District Deputy Grand Master for South Huron and his officers. The interest of the meet­ ing was heightened by the putting on ol' the first degree by the Master and his degree team of the local lodge, the work being put on in a manner that elected much praise from the D.D.G.M. and a large num­ ber of visiting brethren. During the time of the degree worlt the Deputy Grand Master delivered inspiring and helpful suggestions and later on in the evening during the social hour, gave a very fine address, which was listened to with pleasure and profit. A number of brethren from the district lodges also -gave addresses and expressions Of the fine social time .being spent. Breth­ ren were present ’ from Stratford, London, Seaforth, Carlow and Ex­ eter lodges and during the lunch time toasts were proposed and re­ sponded to in the accustomed man­ ner. Local brethren also gave dresses and before separating National Anthem and Auld I Syne were sung. W* M. S. Meeting The December meeting of M. S. of Carmel Presbyterian was held in the basement church on Thursday afternoon, Dec­ ember 12th at three o’clock, with the pjresident, Mrs. Colin Hudson presiding. The meeting opened by singing hymn 283 and Mrs. Hudson led in prayer. Mrs. Young read tho (Scripture lesson from the 12th chap­ ter of Romans, This was followed hy the roll call which was answered hy a suggestion for tho new year. The minutes of the last meeting were read by( the secretary and ap- proved. The offering was taken and hymn 270 was sung. A life mem­ bership certificate and an address was presented to Mrs, Logan in rec­ ognition of her faithful service. Pletch took the chair. Splendid reports were given by all committees. Ladies’ Aid treas­ ury has a surplus of $174.48 on hand. Missionary treasurer report­ ed $127.52 raised for Missions. Evangelical Ladies’ Aid and W.M.S. The Ladies’ Aid and W. M. S. of Dashwood Evangelical Church held their regular meeting recently in the church basement' with Mrs. D. Tiernan in charge of the meeting. Mrs. R. H. Taylor gave the chapter in the study book on “Advancement in Education.” The quilt commit­ tee reported having finished sixteen quilts and the parsonage committee reported that some papering had -been done and a new oilcloth laid. It was decided to contribute $5.00 to the War Memorial Children’s Hospital. Mrs. Reuben Goetz and Mrs. David Weber were appointed as the visiting committee for the month. The annual election of of­ ficers was not held at this meeting owing to tho new minister not hav­ing arrived. It will be held at the I regular meeting in January instead. Runaway Accident at Dashwood A team of horses belonging to Mr. Edmund J. Walper of the Bron­ son Line, north of Dashwood, creat­ ed some excitement one day. last week whea they were left tied up in the shed of the Lutheran Church and becoming restless, they are thought to have chewed the rope in two with which they were tied. The doors were closed and for a time they ran around the shed until .someone open­ ed tho doors to drive a car in. Im­ mediately the horses dashed through the opening and madly raced for home. Mr. Walper while shopping in a local store was informed of the runawavi but the equines were al­ ready on their way. The horses es­ caped iserious injury but the wagon was badly damaged. ' A sequel to this accident happen­ ed a day later when six-year-old Lloyd Fischer, son of Christian Fis­ cher was leaning backwards against the steel railing which had been struck by the runaway team but was "not noticeably damaged.
