Mr. William Frazer has been con­ fined to his home for several days through illness. Mrs. John Park is visiting this week with her sister, Mrs. A. T. Douglas, at Hyde Park. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd attended the funeral of Mr. A. A. Cuthill, of Winthrop, on Sunday. The Hensail, municipal nominations will be held on Friday evening of this week, November 22nd. Rev, and Mrs. Arthur Sinclair at­ tended the funeral of Mrs. Sinclair’s aunt in London last week. Dr, and Mrs. Collyer were guests at the Kennedy-tMcCormick wedding in London on Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Douglas, of Hyde VPark, were visiting relatives in the village over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. John Bolton, Mrs. Th.os. Berry and Miss Ellen Ford visited friends in Lucikinow on Sun­ day last. Mr. Henry Hogarth, of Seaforth, spent a few days last week visiting here with her sister-in-law, Miss M. A. Hogarth. Messrs. George Brock, George Fol­ lick John Passmore and Fred Hess have returned home after a hunting trip to Pike Bay. David Kyle has resighed his posi­ tion as driver for the Beane Bakery and hisi position is feeing taken by Harold Willlard. Miss Marion Paisley enterained a number of girl friends at her home here on Thursday evening last to a birthday .party., A number of young people of Carmel Presbyterian Church attend­ ed the Huron presbytery rally at Clinton on Monday evening. Mr, and Mrs, Ralph Walters and Mrs. Agnes' McDonald intend leav­ ing in a few days .for Vancouver B.C. where they will make their future home. Mrs. Fred Bengough, who .was op­ erated on last week in the Seaforth Hospital for appendicitis was suffi- cently recovered to be brought home on. Monday. Mrs. John Johnson accompanied by Mr. and Mrs, A. T. Douglas, of Hyde Parlki, attended the funeral of the late A. A. Cuthil'l, of Winthrop on Sunday. Her position at the school is being talkien by Miss Mc­ Lennan, of London. Miso Kathryn Drysdale, who is attending Alma Ladies’ College, St. Thomas, was taken to- Victoria Hos­ pital, London on .Saturday and op­ erated on for appendicitis. Miss Drysdale came through the operation well and is now doing nicely. While playing at school on Thurs­ day, Keith Budhanan. son of Mr. W. Buchanan, had the misfortune to be knocked down and had a leg frac­ tured in two places. Celebrates 95th Birthday Dur oldest resident, Mrs. Joseph Hudson celebrated her 95th birth­ day on Wednesday last, A great many relatives and friends called at the home during the day to express their good wishes, Mrs. Hudson also received many telephone calls and telegrams from members of the family and grandchildren at a dis­ tance whO' were unable to be present She was also the recipient of a num­ ber of beautiful .presents. Mrs. Hud­ son has spent most of her life in this district. She is in fair health, enjoys life and her many friends extend their .congratulations. Y- J?. Anniversary The young people of the United Church held their anniversary ser­ vices on Sunday last large congrega­ tions attended both services. A young people’s choiy furnished the music. At the morning, service Rev. Mr. Mair, of Thames Road United church conducted' the services and gave a very practical/ address, - besides a number of selections by the choir Miss Bella Smale sang a solo. In the evening Rev. Mr. Page, of James St. church , Exeter, occupied the pulpit and gave a very interesting and helpful address to the young people. At this service Robert Pass- more and Lome Elder sang a duet. The services/ were greatly enjoyed by those who were fortunate enough to attend and the collections for the day, which were over $100 will be given by the young people to Mis­ sions. Death of Robert Dodds Word was received in the village last week of the death of Robert Doddis, which occurred at his homo in Brookdale, Man., on Saturday November 2nd. Mr. Dodds was a former resident of Hensall and left here with his parents for* Manitoba in 1879 and settled on the Carberry Plains, near the present village of Brookdale, He farmed there up to eight years ago when he retired. Be­ sides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, James' Dodds, Brookdale, and John, of Asquith, Sask and three sistei's, Mrs. Peter Robinson, of Winnipeg; Mrs. Robt.‘ King, Well­ wood and Mrs, A. W. Blackwell, of Brandon. 'The funeral took /place on Monday, November 4th from his late home Brookdale to the Car­ berry cemtery. The Rev. J. E. Bell of Brandon, assisted by Rev. W. E, McDonald, of Brookdale had charge of the service. Huron visitors were always very welcome at the /beauti­ ful Doods’ home on the Carberry Plain. Death /of All's. David Nicol A highly respected and esteemed resident of Hensall in the person of Mrs. David Nicol passed away in Victoria Hospital, London, on Thurs­ day evening .last. Mrs. Nicol, who was suffering gangerine in her foot, was talkien to the hospital two weeks ago. /TO prevent the spread of t'he disease her leg was amputat­ ed above the knee on Saturday, November 9 th, but she failed to' rally and passed away on Thursday night. She was a daughter of the late Jas. and Mrs. Bonthron and was born on the homestead farm .lot 17, con. 3, Hay Township, 168 "years ago and spent he- early life there. After her marriage to Mr. Nicol she came to Hensall to reside and has been, a valued resident since. She was a metaber of the Presbyterian church and took an active interest in the ch/urch work. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her loss, two sons James and Will at home; two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Stacey, of De­ troit and Mrs. Anni© Hawthorn of the West and three brothers,William in British Columbia and John and James C.P.R. conductors of Moose- Jaw. The funeral to.ok place from -her late residence King St., Hensall, on Saturday afternoon. Rev. W. A. Young, pastor of Carmel Presbyter­ ian Clturch conducted the service. The floral tributes' were very beaut­ iful. Interment took place in the Hensall Union cemetery. The pall­ bearers'were Thomas Welsh, Thomas Hudson, Fred Bonthron, Alf, Taylor Joseph Hagan and Thos. Richardson Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Denholm and daughter, Blyth; Mrs. Legg, of London; Mrs. Potter and Mr. Bell, of Hamilton. BURIED AT STiAFFA The death occurred Saturday of Mrs. John Vipond, formerly Mary Hannah Payne, Mitchell, after an illness of about two months. De­ ceased was born in Hibbert Town­ ship and was in her- 74th year. She was a daughter of Mr. and "Mrs. Thomas Payne and was married 50 years ago and has lived on Toronto street, Mitchell, for about three years. Mrs. Vipond was a member of the United Church, Staffa. Her husband survives. Funeral took place Tuesday from the home with services at two o’clock and interment in the Staffa cemetery. CREDITON Mr, Herbert K. Either attended a directors’ njeeting of the Hay Town­ ship Fire Insurance Co., at Hensall last Saturday. Mii$. Lorence Wein is visiting this week at her former home near St. Rfarys. Mrs. Richard Hill spent the week­ end with her mother at Lobo. Trucks are now busy drawing gravel from the Robinson pit onto I the different concessions of the township. Mr, Geo. 'Misses Ila and Lily Eilber, Cleve­ land, Mr. Russell Either, and Mr. j and Mrs. Carl Haumeller, of Detroit i were guests over the week-end at the home of Mr. Chas, Eilber. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Wenzel visited in Palmerston on Sunday. Mr. Clarence Holtzmann has com­ pleted his repairing of the hotel buildings. Mr. Dan Maclsaac is at present on the sick list. We hope he will soon I be improved. I Miss Erma Fahner, of London, spent the week-end at her* home here. Mr. and MX’s. Harry Fahner cele­ brated their thirtieth wedding anni­ versary. at their home last Friday ev­ ening. About twenty,-five .relatives and friends were present. The even­ ing was enjoyaibly spent in games and music. Mr. Martin Morlock is laid up with a severe attack of measles. His many friends wish him a speedy .re­ covery. Mr. Richard Wagner has left for London where he is taking a course at the Technical School. Christian Endeavour The Christian Endeavour of the Evangelical Church held their reg­ ular meeting last Friday evening The meeting was in charge of the department of worship. Miss Malee- ta Wein presided. The Scripture was read by/ Irvin Ratz. The topic was discussed by Harold Fahner. Mr. Freeman Morlock contributed a vo­ cal solo. A reading on “Remem­ brance Day” was given by Miss La­ vina Smith. The program closed with th© E.L.C.E. benediction. 81st Birthday Last Wednesday evening about 35 relatives and friends celebrated the 81st birthday of Mr. Paul Schenk. Mr. Schenk was Jborn in Stuttgart, Germany, coming to Canada in the year 1877. His /parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schenk. Mr. Schenk is still very active and en­ joying the best of .health. Mr. Schenk received many congratulations to mark the happy occasion. $ $ “ Women’s Institute The regular meeting of the W. I. was held Tuesday afternoon Novem­ ber .12. President occupied the chair. Meeting opened -by singing the Ode. All joined by repeating the Lord’s Prayer. Motto, “Nothing Great was ever Achieved without Enthusiasm.” Roll call was answered by “Don’ts for the Kitchen”. Thirty-five mem­ bers and visitors were present also two- new members. A membership contest was arranged, captains, Mrs. C. Sims, Mrs. L. England; Mrs. F. Clarke took the chair for the follow­ ing program. Song, “Long, Ago”; Current events, Mrs. F. King; vocal duet, Miss M. Lovie and Miss J. Raynham. The report of the con­ vention held at Hotel London was given 'by the delegates, Mrs. G. Mor­ lock and Mrs. C. Sims; piano' duet, Miss L: Smith and Mrs. Em. Fahner. Hostesses, Mrs. F. Clarke, Mrs. H. Beaver, Mrs. B. Kestle, Mrs. A. Wein Moved by Mrs. T. Mawhinney second­ ed by Mrs. J. Wein, a hearty vote of thanks to alii who- helped make this meeting a success. WOODHAM Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Lovegrove and Bill have returned -from the North Country, having secured two fine deer. A bale of clothing for the' West was packed here on Monday last. A business meeting of all the con­ gregation was held in the basement of the church on Monday evening last. Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill and Miss Violet, of Exeter, -were Sunday vis­ itor's at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas1. Squire. Miss Eva Copeland, Reg. N., is the guest of her cousin Miss Ethel Cope­ land for a few days. The Misses Evelyn Carnm and* Pearl Brethour attended the Bazaar at Kirkton on Friday night last. Mrs. Wilbur Wynn is at present visiting with friends at Toronto. MT. CARMEL Miss Gertie Dietrich, of London, is spending a few days at her hptye here. Miss Magdalen Musser, of De­ troit, spent the week-end at the home of her father Albert Musser, Mrs. Corie Regan and son Jim, of Lucan, spent a few days last week with her daughter Mrs. Joseph Diet- rich. Mr. Martin O’Rourke returned home last week after spending sev­ eral months with friends at Milton, North Dakota. A social will bo held in the Hall on Friday evening. Mrs. Edward Hall received the news on Monday evening of the death of her sister Mrs. John F. Special musical numbers consisting of instrumental quartettes and the orchestra. Rev.. Mr. Down, of . Exeter, will conduct the service in the Evangel­ ical church next Sunday morning as­ sisted by the young people’s choir, while Rev. S. W. Miss Anne Tieman spent a few days in Toronto. 1A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Weber on Thursday, November 14, when a reception was held in honor of Mr. Clarence Schade and his bride who has iust returned from their wedding trip. At six o’clock about thirty relatives and friends sat down to a dainty table decorateu in pink and white centred with a handsome wedding cake where all did justice to a fowl supper. The evening was spent in m-usic and singing which was very much appre­ ciated. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watson and Miss Hilda Snell. Detroit, visited the'ir mother Mrs. Wm. Miss Norma Finkbeiner, of Credi- ton, is at present at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roes Hern. A large number attended the sup­ per at Whalen on Friday evening and enjoyed the missionary pro­ gram. Sims. A jolly time was spent on Friday evening last when Mr. and Mrs. J. Jasney entertained their friends to a dance at their home it being their wedding anniversary.
