The address Wks read by Mr. John Drown and the tpewlyiweds were presented with two beautiful chairs, after which Mr. Miller expressed his apprecia tion for the gifts. A host of friend© will join in wishing them1 much happiness. Mr. and Mrs. John Sadler spent the week-end at Niagara Falls. Mr. Wm. Jefifery visited at the home of his son, Mr, and Mrs. Arn old Jeffery, of Detroit, recently. Mr, and Mrs. George Wilson have returned to- their home after spend ing a number of weeks at the home of M1\ and Mrs. Cecil Stewart, Ex eter, during their son-in-law’s recent illness of typhoid fever, SHIPKA Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Gray visited with Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Livingston in Hamilton, on Sunday. Mrs. Chas. Tref'fey, of London, is visiting with Mr. Treffry and Miss Treffry. The regular meeting -of the Ladies’ Aid was held on Wednes day. last at the home of Mrs. Roy Ratz, 12 members were present and 5 visitors. The president, Mrs. W. Sweitzer presided. The meeting was opened by singing the hymn. “.Sweet Hour of prayer” with prayer led by Rev. J. Johnston, after which reports were given. A missionary paper was given- by. Mrs. Johnson. An in vitation' was -given by the Crediton W. M. S. to attend their meeting on 'rvovhuPiber 28th. A box '.was packed to be to the needy in Northern Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. F. La Foard and family, of Sarnia, visited over the week-end with relatives here. Miss Ir.ma Finkbeiner, who has spent the past year visiting in the West, is at present visiting with re latives and friends here. Next Sunday is Temperance Day in the Sunday school. Instructions will be given. CREDITON EAST Mrs. David Baird and son Carl are visiting with her sister and brother- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. Peil’er in Chatham. Miss Evelyn Clarke, of near Mt. Mrs. Taylor and son Orland is visiting Mr. and Mrs, ike Gower near Elimville. ZION The December meeting of the W. M. S. was held on Thursday after noon of last week at the home of Mrs: H. Kyle in Exeter with a -good attendance. The president, Mrs. W. B’rodta, occupied the chair. After the usual opening exercises Mrs. Kyle read the Scripture lesson, the 103rd psalm. Rev. and Mrs. Peters favored, with a dudtt. Mrs. Melville Hern read the devotional leaflet, “The Spirits of Power.’2' Prayer was offered by several members. ELIMVILLE Mr, and Mrs. Walter Heim, of Goderich, visited on Monday with Mr, and Mrs. Chas-. Johns. Mr, and Mrs. George Bosnell and son, of Toronto, were week-end vis itors with Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Johns. Mr, and Mrs, Kenneth Johns spent the week-end visiting in Sarnia, Rev. E. Bott, returned missionary, from Japan gave a yery interesting talk illustrated with lantern slides relative to his work in- Japan, in the church on Sunday night. He also addressed the Y. P. Society -on Monday night. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Joshlua Johns is on the sidle list, (Mrs. Whiteford, of Exeter, who ha® been* very ill, is at present at the home other granddaughter, Mrs. Win. Routly. Presented With Gift The following clipping was taken from the “South Saskatchewan News” and refers to Mrs. Fred Hern, sister of Mr. Ben Williams, who with her husband recently arrived in this coimmunity from Bengough, Sask. “A very pleasant add profit-: able afternoon was spent last Wed nesday, October 16th, at the home of Mrs. J. Dersch, when- about thirty members of the Ladies’ Aid gather ed to quilt a comforter for use at the manse. Occasion was also taken to .present Mrs. F. Hern with a part ing gift of a black kid purse to ©how the appreciation of the mem bers for the time she has Worked in their midst, -both as a member and as president. The presentation was made by Mrs. C. Hardy who read the address, after which a con test wasi run off, Mrs. L. Ley win ning the prize. A delicious lunch was then served, cafeteria style. Mr. and Mrs. F. The meet ing closed by singing “Oh Lord of Heaven and Earth and Sea,, and re peating the benediction in unison from the Peace program. This was followed by a dainty lunch served by the hostess. The December meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Melville Hern. The W. M, S. ladies are invited to Elimville on Wednesday afternoon •of next week, it being the celebra tion of the 25th anniversary of their W. M. IS. The Mission Band held their Nov ember meeting on Saturday after noon in the church with a good at tendance. Lawrence Hern, -the 1st vice-president occupied the -chair. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hern and family visited with Mr, and Mrs. M. Wass on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McDonald and family spent Armistice Day with Mr. and Mrs. James Earl. Mr. and Mrs. Ephram Hem and daughters spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Roger, of Kirkton. Mrs. A. Gunning, of Exeter, spent the week-end with her daughter, Mrs. Allen Jaques. 'Mr. Henry. Hern returned home our Tuesday after visiting with his daughter, Mrs. H. Kyle, in Exeter. We a-re glad to. report that Mr. Charles J'aques is around again after his recent illness. We welcome Mrs. Thomas G. Hern to our midst. KHIVA A number from here attended the funeral of the late Mrs. M. Hoffman of Zurich on Monday morning. Miss Dorothy Becker, of London', is spending a few days at her home here. We are glad to report that Mrs. Wm. Dietrich, who underwent an operation to St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, last Monday is getting along fairly well. Mr. and Mrs. S. Lewis, of Crediton visited hep daughter Mrs. Alex Hamilton the past week. CROMARTY The October meeting of the W. M. S. was held on Thursday last in the basement of the church with a good attendance. Mrs. Riedie, the president, presided. A very fine ac count of the life work of Dr. Grant, who spent a number of years in the Yukon was given by Mis® Currie. Mrs. Reidi© also gave a short talk on 'his life as a missionary there. A few minutes was taken, up with the business ipart of the Auxiliary. The meeting closed with the singing of a hymn and the Lord's prayer. .Sunday last being a day set apart for th© Thanksgiving service of the W. M. S. of the -Cromarty Auxiliary. The speaker for the service, was Mrs. Jas. Erskine, of Moncton, w’ho pre sented the work of the W. M. S. in a very afole and concise way. Speak ing in a way to create enthusiasm in the iwiork of Missions in our church and elsewhere. Mr. Oswald Walker is at present grading and levelling the front of his store in the village which when finished will be a great improve ment. Mr. John Robertson is at present building a garage adjoining 'his home in the village which when finished will be a very neat little property. Mr. R. Quance was a visitor in the village on Tuesday last. Friday last. WINCHELSEA Mr. and Mrs. John Prance spent one day last week with friends at Parkhill. Mrs. Geo. Parjkiinson and Mr. Ralph Parkinson, of Blanshard, vis ited on Friday last with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Foster. Mr. and Mrs. George Davis and family visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs; Ewart Pym, at Exeter. During the past few weeks the Canadian Legion Branch at Exeter sponsored an essay writing con test in the secondary schools in the district, the subject of the essay was "What Canada Could Contri bute Towards World Peace.” The winner in Winchqlsea school was Miss Marion Pooley who is to be congratulated on receiving the bronze medal for the best in the school. She also won the silver medal for being the best essay in the zone. The medals were presented at the Remembrance Day services held in Exeter on Monday. The presentation was made by Reeve Thos. Pryde of Exeter and Reeve George Westcott, of Usborne.
