McEwen, of Vancouver, B.C., are visiting with their brothers Mr. Lad and Alpin McEwen. Miss Griffeth, of Ottawa, who has spent several weeks here, the guest of Rev. and Mrs. Loung, returned to' her home in Ottawa on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Alex McMurtrie and little daughter, of Toronto, visited over the weelkt-end with Mr. McMur- trie’s mother, Mr®. Alex McMurtrie. Mr. C. Cook and Thos. Jennings, of Toronto, Inspector of Public Libraries for On­ tario was in the village on Tuesday making an inspection of the Hensall Public Library. Mr®. (Dr.) Reid, of Port Rowafx, is visiting with her parents Mr. and and E. Sheffer. Mrs. Sheffer, who- has been confined to her room for the -past week or two through ill­ ness i©i slowly improving. A mixed quartette from the choir* o.f Carmel Presbyterian church here assisted with the program in con­ nection with the fowl supper held in Caven Presbyterian church, Exeter, on Tuesday evening. The Heneall Public and Continu­ ation 'School which have been clos­ ed for a week owing to the number of cases of mumps and scarlet fever* ■ in the village, reopened on Tuesday morning after being thoroughly fu­ migated and cleaned. There are still several cases of mumps fever in the village. Mrs. Mark Drysdale the Ladies’ Association ited church at her home on Wednes­ day afternoon last. The occasion took the form of a ten cent tea in aid of the Ladies’ Association. A good number attended to enjoy the afternoon and to help out in that particular branch of church work. Thanksgiving service was held in Carmel Church Sunday morning last with Rev. W. A. Young, pastor, in charge. Mr. Young preached a very appropriate sermon. The choir rendered an- anthem and Mrs. Young and Mrs, W. A. McLaren sang a duett. Mitchell, Centralia. > The funeral was held from the . home of her ©on, John, on Tuesday , afternoon. Interment was made in Crediton Evangelical cemetery. The Late Miss A. Zwicker On Tuesday afternoon of this ' week the remains of the late Miss Anna Zwicker, of London, were . laid to rest in the Exeter cemetery. Miss Zwiclker passed away on Sun­ day, October 20 th, at her late resi­ dence, 339 William St., London, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 5 days. The deceased was born at Crediton and tor the past 3 0 years she has resided in London. About •four weeks previous to her death she suffered a paralytic stroke. She is survived by five brothers, Arthur, of Edmonton; Albert, of Vancouver; George, of Windsor; Chris., of Lon­ don and Charles, of Crediton and one sister Catherine Zwicker, of London; also a niece, Miss Katie Gertrude Zwicker, of London. She was a member of the Central Bapt­ ist Church, of London. The funeral itook place from the Ferguson Fun­ eral Home, conducted by Rev. Mr. Miller and the remains were brought to Exeter. The pall bearers were Trevethick, F. W. Clark, Fahner, Everett Fahner, Wuerth and Lloyd England. Catherine Zwicker is very ill and in a precarious condition at the pres­ ent time. Miss Allie Wright, of Lodon, vis­ ited Mr. and Mrs. Wan. Oestricher on Sunday. Mrs. (Rev.) Samuel Finkbeiner, of South Dakota, visited for a few days with Mrs. Stahl and family,. Mrs. (Dr.) D. V. Myles, of Lans­ ing, Mich., formerly Mis® Lydia Sherritt visited room two of the school on Tuesday and spoke of home life and method of living in China. This was particularly interesting as she spent six years in that country. Aimer Ratz, Lavina Smith, Addi- leen Gaiser and Gertrude Amo® with several other Huron teachers are leaving for Ottawa Thursday morn­ ing to visit their city schools as well as tour and visit the city and the Parliament buildings. Enjoy Jubilee Singers Last Friday evening a fair crowd assembled in the auditorium of the Evangelical Church to hear the sac­ red program rendered by the Vir­ ginia Jubilee Singer®, of Chicago. The octette presented a program of sacred songs and hymns to the in­ tense delight of everyone present. The Jubilee Singers are midway through an intinerary taking them through Ontario and Quebec. Mrs. William Smith Dies Mrs^ Nancy Eggert Smith, widow of William Smith, formerly of Step­ hen Twp., died instantly at the home of her son, John, at Lucan, on Sunday morning, .after she had par­ taken of a hearty breakfast. :Slxe had not been feeling well for two weeks, but had not been seriously ill. She was in her 74th year. Mrs. smith, had spent most of her life near Crediton on a farm. With her husband she moved to, Lucan a year ago to. make her home with her son, Johh Smith. Francis of Exeter, spent a few days in Tor- t onto this week. ; Evangelical Anniversary Services The anniversary services of Dash­ wood Evangelical ghurch were held last Sunday with a large attendance. A shadow of gloom was cast over the day by) the absence of their dearly beloved pastor, Rev. W. S. Henrich, who lies, critically ill from the ef­ fects of a paralytic stroke, suffered last Thursday. Little hope is held for his recovery. At both morning and evening ser­ vices the message was delivered by Rev. T. H. Jackson, of the British Methodist Episcopal Colored Church of London. Special music, was given by members of the chiurch. Mr. La­ verne Jones, baritone and a ladies’ trio. The local choir also rendered two anthems, in the morning, “Holy Art Thou” by) Handel and in the ev­ ening “Lord of Heaven” by Rosse, ■ solo parts in the latter being taken by Miss Catherine ----- Harry Hoffman. The speaker was Mr. S. W. McFalls, the Finkbeiner and introduced by of Dashwood, who assisted with the services. Rev. E. Burn, of Zurich, assisted at the evening; service. Baskets of autumn leave© were used effectively in dec­ oration. The offering amounted to $143. Our president, Garfield Thompson took charge of the busi­ ness’. Miss Kennedy then tooik I charge of the meeting, opening it by { singing hymn 151. The Scripture lessor was read by Mary McFall©, a vocal duett by Alma and Doris | Skinner. Mr. Stewart took charge’ of the Bible study. A solo by Mrs. j Fletcher was greatly enjoyed. The I address fox’ the evening was given by Rev. De Mille of the Metropolitan church, London. Piano duett by Mrs. Pen warden and Miss Wanda Willis. The meeting closed by sing­ hymn 43/6 and repeating the Mizpah benediction. The October meeting of the W.M. S. was held at the home of Mrs. (Rev.) Stewart on Tuesday, October 15th. The devotional exercises were presided over by Mr©. L. Slxoldice, using the tenth annual programme throughout. The talk on the study book was given by Mrs. G. Hicks, the meeting was then taken over by Mrs. McFalls. The minutes and roll call of 19'25 were read, after which the names of the members that had passed away during the past 10 year© and a memorial service was held in the form of silent pray- er fox* one minute with Mr. Stewart leading in prayer. Hymn 442, first verse being sung. Mrs. Powe gave the report of afternoon session of the convention that was held at Elimville. It was moved and second­ ed that Mrs. L. Hicks be responsible for presenting the .Study Book at each meeting. Mrs. Powe closed the meeting with prayer. A dainty lunch! was served. The October meeting of the Mis­ sion Circle was held at the home of Mrs. Arnold Hern with twenty) of the members present. The meeting opened with hyjmn and prayer after which Myrtle Brethour -read a poem. Violet Squire then gave a guitar instrumental and Laura Rundle read a poem. Annie Gilfillian read the Scripture Lesson and Olive Lang­ ford and Hazel Gunning gave a short' dialogue. The minutes of the last meeting were read and it was decid­ ed to hold the next meeting at the home of Olive Langford. The roll call next month is to' be answered with a verse on Thanksgiving. The pulpit and platform were prettily decorated with flowers and plants. Rev. Jos. Coulter, of Scarboro Junction, a junior pastor here thirty-eight years ago, deliver­ ed two fine addresses. The choir rendered two anthems at each ser­ vice. On Thanksgiving Day a hot fowl supper will be served followed by a splendid program. A large num­ ber of visitors were in the neighbor­ hood on Sunday, so many it is im­ possible to name them all, but a few were: Mr. John Johns, Mr. S. Johns, Miss Leila McFalls, Mrs. F. Delbridge, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Skinner, Mr. and Jno. Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Francis, Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Py|m, and children; Mrs. Jos.
