Miss Olive Walker has returned home from Toronto where she has been visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dick and son Douglas, of Toronto, visited friends in town on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Fred Corbett visit­ ed Monday with the former’s nephew Mr. John Colvin at Lobo. Mrs. Pope has returned to Tor­ onto where she will spend the win­ ter months with her daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dayman, of Usborne Township, visited on Sun­ day with Mrs. Hannah Taylor. Raymond Higgins spent the week­ end visiting with his sister Mrs. A. J. Sweitzer at the Beach-o’-Pines. Mrs. E. Sheffer, who has been confined to her room for the past week through illness, is improving. Mr. and Mrs. James Dick and Mr. Arthur Dick visited with friends in List-owel and Moncton on Sunday. Miss Gertie Martin visited over the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Martin of Tuckersmith Miss Hannah Murray returned home last week from a pleasant it with relatives and friends in troit. Mrs. Richard Blatchtoi’d, of Hensail, Mrs. Charles Reception A .reception in the town hall on Friday eyening last was held in hon­ our of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Harris some 150 guests were present. Mu­ sic for the dancing was furnished by Nelson Howe, Walter Kerslake and accompanied at the piano by Miss C. McKaig. During the evening Mr. and Mrs. Harris were presented with a beautiful kitchen cabinet. Mr. Har­ ris, on behalf of himself and Mrs. Harris thanked the friends for their kindness in presenting them with such a beautiful gift after which a dainty lunch was served. W, M, S. The w, M, S..of the United church held theii’ regular monthly meeting in the school room of the church. The meeting was in charge of Mrs. C McDonell and opened by singing a hymn and prayer, Mrs. McDonell read the devotional leaflet. Mrs. A. Clark sang a solo after the business of the meeting. Mrs. E. McQueen gave a very interesting report of the W. M. S. Convention held at Elim- ville on October 3rd. Mrs. Mc­ Queen gave a splendid report and was listened to with much interest. The meeting closed with hymn and prayer. Carmel W. M. S. Entertain The W. M. S. of the Carmel Pres­ byterian church entertained the la­ dies of the congregation to a hot supper on Tuesday evening, October 8th. Mrs. F. Farquhar was in charge of the meeting which open­ ed with singing hymn 476 followed by prayer by Mrs. Little. Mrs. C. Hudson, the president, took, charge of the business period, where a very hearty welcome was extended to all those present, ifais. Young read the Scripture Lesson from the 10’th chapter of Romans. The roll call was answered with “Honour" as the text word. The minutes of the last meeting were read' and approved. Mrs. F. Farquhar gave a very inter­ esting reading on "Patchwork”. The special guest speaker for the even­ ing was Mrs'. G. M. Young, of Nairn, who spoke on Mary Slessor, which was very interesting. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mrs, Young for her wonderful address. Hymn 386 was then sung. Rev. W. A. Young closed the meeting prayer. with MT. Mr. Andrew Agur, accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law, of Mt. Forest, visited on -Sunday with their relatives, Reeve and Mrs. Jones. Miss Eleanor Bell and Miss Grace Buck-, nurses-in-training at Victoria Hospital, London, visited over the week-end"at their respective homes. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McNaughton have moved back to town from Hib­ bert Townshi1' where they have liv­ed* for some time with their son Mr. Peter McNaughton. Mrs. Agnes Horton, who has spent several months here visiting with her daughter and son-in-law,,. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paterson, left on Wednesday last to spend the winter in California. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaren, W. L. McLaren, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bell and Miss Jean Venner visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Mc­ Naughton of Fullarton on Sunday. The play “Lighthouse Nan” which was given under the auspices of the South Huron Junior 'Farmers’ As­ sociation in the Town Hall Thurs­ day evening was fairly well attend­ ed. The play was quite interesting. After the play a dance was held. Master Charles Fee, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ftee, who has .been ill for several weeks with scarlet fever and had recovered from that, was taken to Victoria Hospital, Lon­ don, on Sunday and operated on for mastoid trouble. Little Charles many friends hope f-or him a speedy recovery. The election here on Monday was very quiet not much enthusiasm be­ ing Shown till the evening. There were 496 names on the lists and 391 votes were polled. In the evening big crowds were out on the streets getting the returns. The , Hensall citizens’ band were out helping with the celebrating. A great number drove to Zurich t-o attend the cele­ bration there. Rev. G M. and Mrs. Young, of Nairn, spent Sunday at the home of their son, Rev. W. A. Murch spent the week-end with relatives in London. The Y. P. S. meeting of the night. Mr. and Mrs. Jeanette and Neil, of near Seaforth, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cooper. Bear in mind t'he sixtieth anni­ versary services to- be held in this church next Sunday. Rev. J. Coulter of Scarboro Beach, a former Junior Pastor of this church about forty years ago, will conduct both ser­ vices. Mrs. Wes. Horne has been in Ex­ eter attending her mother Mrs. Whiteford, who is seriously ill. The regular monthly meeting of the W. A. was held at the home of Mrs. William Routly last Thursday. Mrs. Chas. Stephen had charge of the meeting which was opened with the hymn “Faith of our Fathers” and the 'Lord’s prayer was repeated in unison. Mrs. Jas. Kirkland read the Scripture Lesson. Ruth Skinner and Mrs. 'Garnet Johns gave read­ ings. Mrs. Kenneth Johns, gave a very interesting talk on “The Care of pne-School age Children”. We hope to have another talk from Mrs. Johns on this subject. The hymn “Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult." The treasurer gave a very good re­ port. $77.00 being raised, this year. The president then took charge of the business. iSixteen members re­ sponded to the roll call. Several items of business were then discuss­ ed. Mrs. A. Pym invited the ladies to her home for the next meeting. An hour of sewing was spent after which a ten-cent tea was served by the hostess. Mrs. Jas. Kirkland and 'Mrs. John Brock. Dashwood Stitch and Chatter Election The ninth annual reorganization of the Dashwood iStitch and Chatter Club was held last Wednesday at the home of Miss Anne Tieman, the retiring president. Mrs. Alvin Kel­ lerman, who was vice-president last year, automatically becomes presi­ dent, while the newly elected vice- president is Mrs. Addison Tieman. Miss Ella Martinson was. re-elected as secretary-treasurer. This week’s meeting is being held- at the home of Mrs. Alvin Kellerman. Dashwood Christian Endeavour Band Entertained After tihe regular practice on Monday evening the Dashwood Evan­ gelical Christian Endeavour Band were the guests o.f Mr. and Mrs. Ad­ dison Tieman at the Commercial Hotel. A jolly time was enjoyed while the cro’wd were served with delicious hamburgers and coffee. Mrs. A. E. 'Oestricher moved a vote of thanks to' the host and hostess for their genial hospitality a.nd Miss Gertrude Hoffman moved a vote of appreciation to Rev. W. S. The topic “Youth’s action in Leisure building a new world” was given by Gerald Godbolt followed by a lengthy discussion. Hymn 436 and closing prayer by Mrs. L. Hicks. Women’s Association The regular monthly meeting of the W. A. was held Thursday last. The meeting opened with the sing- ing\of hymn 226, Mrs. J. Blair took the chair. Mrs. A. Mitchell led in prayer. A solo was rendered by Greta Pollard, Miss H. Davey then asked some questions on the Bible. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. J. Blair, hymn 248 was sung. Mrs. Archie McCurdy passed away Sunday evening at t'he home of her daughter Mrs. John McNicoL Mrs. McCurdy had been in failing, health for some time. Mrs. F. Doupe presiding. The meeting open­ ed with quiet music on the piano and call to worship by the president. Hymn 191 was sung and prayer by Mrs. Ben Wilson. The Bible lesson and devotional leaflet was read by Mrs. A. Rundle. The roll was call­ ed and answered by naming our fa­ vorite month of the year. Jack Ratz, Jr., is convalescing at his-home here after an operation for the removal of his tonsils last Tues­ day. Miss Evyline Clark lias returned to her home after spending a few days with her grandmother at Cred* ito-n. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Gunning spent several days during the past week with friends at Wheatle.y and De­ troit. The W. M. S. of this church were very pleasantly entertained on Tues­ day afternoon by the Zion W. M, S. The occasion was the twenty-fifth anniversary of their society. Mr. Ray Parkinson of Devizes spent Bunday under the parental roof. Mr. and Mrs. Milne Pullen attend­ ed the Earl-Sadler wedding at Staf- fa on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Millson and family and Miss Gladys Beattie, of Lucan, were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Millson on Sunday. Howard Morley is confined to the house suffering from measles. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Squire and fam­ ily were Sunday visitors at the home of Albert Scott, Farquhar. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Morley and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Morley visited in Brantford on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Morley. Mr. and Mrs, El Squire and fam­ ily visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Squire near Woodham recently. W. M. S The October meeting was held at the home -of Mrs. E. Squire on Fri­ day afternoon with twelve members and three visitors present. Mrs. Squire presided. Following the de­ votional exercises the Scripture les­ son was read by Mrs. M. Gunning, Mrs. H. Squire gave a talk on the 10th anniversary. Velma Squire fa­ voured with a piano- solo, Mrs. Wil­ son Morley a reading and Gladys and Merle Squire a dialogue. Rev. Ste­ wart closed the meeting.
