A very pleasant afternoon and ev
ening. was spent at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred Hunkin, of Farqu
har in honour of Miss Gusie Morris
on of Bellingham, Wash., who left
this week for her home there. A very
dainty lunch was served on the spac
ious lawn and the afternoon and' ev
ening was spent in music and social
chat. Some thirty friends and rela
tives ttending. Among those present

Band Concert
The Hensall band rendered a con
cert on Sunday evening, August 18,
in the park grounds which was very
greatly enjoyed by all. The follow
ing numbers' were rendered: “Oh,
Canada”; March, “Hospitality”;
“My Jesus I Love Thee”; “What a
Friend We Have in Jesus”; “My
Faith Looks up to Thee”; “Imperial”
March; Waltz “Rosalind”; “Let Me
Call You Sweetheart” Waltz; “Hip
prodrome” March; “Love Divine, All
Love Excelling”; “The Church in
the Wildwood’”; “Sweet Evening
Bells” Waltz; “Abide With Me”;
“Sun of My Soul”; “Lead. Kindly
Light”; “Globe Dwellers” March;
“Show Boy” March and God Save the
King, The band intend putting on
another Sunday evening concert in
about two weeks. These are great
ly enjoyed and the band deserve a
great deal of credit for the progress
they have made since being organize
ed eanly in the spring.
Death tiff Wm, Kinsman
William Kinsman, a well known
and highly respected resident of
Hibbert Township passed away early
Monday morning in his 79th year.
Mr. Kinsman had been in poor health
for some time and for the past four
months was a great sufferer from
cancer. Despite the best -of medical
care and trained nurses in attend
ance 'he passed away early Monday
morning. He leaves to mourn his
loss two daughters, Mrs. Janet Whit
man and Mrs. Emma Bagshaw, both
of Saskatchewan and four sons, John
and David of Saskatchewan and Ri
chard and Earl at home. The funeral
was held on Tuesday afternoon with
Rev. Mr. Sinclair, pastor of the Unit
ed Church, having charge of the ser-
thevice. Interment was made in
Hensall Union cemetery.

The regular meeting of the Pub
lic Library Board was held this ev
ening in the Council Chambers at
7.30 .pan. with the following mem
bers present; Reeve W. J. Jones,
Mrs. A. McDonald, Mrs. Dr. Collyer,
Rev. W. A. Young and G. Follick,
Minutes read and adopted.
Motion that the secretary notify
the Library members having books
a month or more over due to return
same on the opening of the Library
August 17th. Subject to the regular
fine or a maximum fine of 75 cents
and in the event of not being re
turned the secretary be instructed to
collect same. 'Carried.
Motion,—That the secretary write
the Inspector of Public Libraries
pointing out our1 difficulties as re
gards cash and the drop 'in circula
tion asking for his help in securing

Death, of George Brown
The death occurred at his home on
King St. on Monday evening of one
o,f Hensall’s highly respected resi
dents in the person of Mr. George
Brown. Mr.'Brown had been in ex
cellent health up till the past sever
al weeks when he was stricken with
internal trouble, which froun the very
first proved to be of a serious na
ture and in spite of the best medical
care he failed to rally.
Mt. Brown was born in< Tyrone,
near Bowmanville, 80 years ago^ and
came to Hensall 59 years ago when
Hensall was first started and started
up in business with the late Richard
Blatchford and Frank Blatchford in
the carriage, sleigh and cutter mak
ing business. After Mr. Blatch-
ford’s retirement, Mr. Brown joined-
partnership with the late Mr. James
Clark and son Mr. Alfred Clark and
worked with the latter until his ill-,
ness.
He was a Liberal in politics, a
member of the I.Q.O.F. and a valued
member of the United church.
Besides his sorrowing widow he
leaves to mourn his loss one daugh-%
ter, Mrs. John Wilson, of Stratford
and one son Mervyn, of Toronto; one
sister, Mrs. A Penpraise, of Toron
to, and two brothers, Fred of To
ronto, and Rev. Thos. Brown, of
Lindsay. The funeral was held from
his late home on Wednesday after
noon, with the Rev. Arthur Sinclair
having charge of the services. In
terment taking place in the Exeter
Cemetery.

Death of Daniel Morrison
The death of Mr. Daniel Morrison,
of Detroit, took place on Monday,
August 5Th at the home of his
brother Stephen Morrison of the 14th
Concession, where Mr. Morrison vis
ited ■ annually. Death was due to a
heart attack. Mr. Morrison is sur
vived by his wife formerly Annie
McKeever; two sons; Leo and Edgar
and three daughters, Mrs. Visgar,
Mrs. Schultz, Mrs. Smith, all of De
troit, two sisters Mrs. Lavine also of
Detroit; Mrs. Walker and one broth
er Stephen pf the 14th concession.
The funeral to_ok place to the R. C.
cemetery on Thursday at 10 a.m. Re
quiem Mass’ was celebrated by Rev.
Fr. Fogarty P.P. Mr. Morrison was
a member of Holy Redeemer Church,
Detroit. Those who attended the

The August meeting of the W.M.S.
met last Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Jesse Jaques with the
president Mrs. Fred Doupe presiding
The meeting opened with quiet music
on the piano by Mrs. Cecil Camm
and prayer by the president. The
Bible lesson and comments were read
by Mrs. Redd and Mrs. Frank Mc
Naughton read the miuntes of the
, last meeting and called the roll in
which nineteen members1 responded
A short time was taken for business
and. Mrs. Albert Scott invited the
ladies to come to her home for the
next meeting. Another hymn was
sung and Mrs. W. Switzer in her us
ual able manner gave an interesting
and instructive talk on a book she
read about India. The meeting was
brought to a close in the usual way
by fhe president and a ten cent lunch
was served by the hostess assisted
by a committee in charge.
The Mission Circle meets Tuesday
evening of this week in the base
ment of the church.

Monday morning there was some
excitement when Mr. J. Hodgins of
