Foster has returned to her home after spending the past two weeks at Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. E. Harris, of, Ailsa Craig visited on Sunday with their relatives Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fee. Mr. and Mrs. N. Ogden and Mrs. John Snell, of Exeter, visited witlh Mrs. John Murdock on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. William Consitt have been entertaining a number of rela­ tives and friends this last two weeks. Miss Clarissa Mitchell attended the funeral of her uncle, the late Thos. Mitchell, of Centralia, on last. Mr. and. Mrs. Gibson, of are visiting relatives and here at Hensall and vicinity this week. Carey and Donald Joynt have re­ turned .home after a pleasant visit with their uncle Mr. James McMar- tin of Barrie. Mr. and Mrs. C. Huiser have been visited, by members of their family from Detroit and Windsor also from near Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Drummond, of Toronto visited last week with Mr. Drummond’s brother Mr. E. Drum­ mond and family. Mrs. M. Paul has returned to her ■home at Feversham, after spending a week visiting with her daughter Mrs. N. Battersby. Mr. Robt. Higgins is visiting for a few days with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and iMrs. Leslie Knight in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. John Passmore also members of their’ family have re­ turned Ihome after a pleasant week camping at Pike’s Baiyi. Mrs. Cecil Knight has returned to her home in Kitchener, after a very /pleasant visit with friends in town and the Beach-O’-Pines. Miss Edith McEwan and Miss Lilly McEwan, of Kitchener, are spending their holidays here at the home of their brother John E. McEwan. Mrs. Tiios. Hudson suerffed from a severe stroke on Saturday time of writing is reovering Her many friends hope for a recovery. Reeve and Mrs. Jones .had pleasant visit recently with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Johnston, of Exeter, old time neighbors, and friends in Stan­ ley township. Miss Dorothy! McQueen, Miss Mil­ dred Follick and Mr. Robt. Pass- more have returned 'home tending Summer Scihool at the past week. A miscellaneous shower at the home of Miss Mabel Workman on Wednesday evening in honor of Miss Irene Daters by a number of friends of the bride-to-be. Mr. G. W. Davis left here last week for his former home in England. He will be greatly missed in Hensall where he was one of our most active business men and citizens. Mrs. Leslie Knight and two chil­ dren who have been visiting rela­ tives here and at the Beach-O’-Pines for a couple of weeks returned to their home in Kitchener on Sunday evening. Mrs. James McMartin, of Barrie, who was seriously ill at the home of her mother Mrs. Robt. Bonthron for several weeks has recovered suffi­ ciently to be able to return to' her home on Tuesday last. The marriage of Miss Irma Caro­ lina Daters, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daters to l^r. Henry •McQuaid second, son of Mrs. Henry Harburn of Mitchell will take place at the end of this month. /Misses Norma Cook and; Mary Goodwin, pupils of Miss E. Fisher, A.T.C.M. passed! very successfully the elementary pianoforte examina­ tions of the Toronto Conservatory of Music recently held in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. James Patterson have returned home after, a few days visit with friends in Detroit. Mrs. A. Murry, of Regina, who has been vis­ iting friends in town and Detroit re­ turned to Hensall with them. Rev. J. E. and Mrs. Millyard and family, of London, visited on Sun­ day with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ort- Wein. Mr. Millyard was a former, minister in Hensall and filieir many friends were very pleased to see them again. Chandler, of Kippen, occupied pulpit and a very pleading duet rendered by Messrs. Frank Launce Battersby. Rev. Mr, Young conducted the service in the Carmel Presbyterian Church in the evening and a male chorus was very ably given. At the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Rev. Mr. Farr .preached very interesting sermons ‘at both services. The political pot is beginning to boil in this riding of Huron-Perth. The Liberals have already nominat­ ed Mr. W. H. Golding, of Seaforth, the present members as its candidate and the Progressive and U. F. O. Convention will be held here next Thursday, July 25 th and will possibly nominate a candidate to contest the riding. Mr. W. W. Cooper, of Kip­ pen, is feeling his way for a nomin­ ation as an Independent candidate. The Conservatives have not taken any action as yet but it is passible that all the parties will enter the con­ test. Mr. D. H. Mrs. John Klumpp has returned home from St. Joseph’s Hospital in London and is getting along as well as can be expected. Her many friends wish .her a speedy recovery. Beck, of Pigeon, Mich, Enjoy Picnic The Young People’s Christian En­ deavour Society of the Evangelical Church held their annual picnic at Stratford Park last Wednesday after­ noon. Glee Club Present Sacred Program Sunday evening a large crowd of members /and friends of the twioi churches assembled in the auditor­ ium qf the Zion Evangelical church to hear the sacred program render­ ed by the men of the Glee Club Oc­ tette of North Central College, Na­ perville, Ill. The octette under the direction of Prof. Hermanus Baer, with Mrs. Baer as accompanist pre­ sented a program of sacred songs and hymns to the intense delight of everyone present. The Glee Club fa­ vorably impressed' everyone with excellence and; beauty of' arrange­ ment. The club is midway through an itinerary, taking them through the Midwestern as well as Eastern States and Ontario. United Church W. A. 'The July meeting of the W. A. of the United Church was held recent­ ly with the president Mrs. J. Lovie presiding. The meeting opened by singing a hymn after which a mo­ ment’s silence was observed in mem­ ory of the late Mrs. I. Hill. This was followed by the Lord’s Prayer in unison. The travelling box that has been going in and out of the homes was opened and the contents revealed almost $20.00. Laura Woodall favored the meeting with a piano solo. Several items of busi­ ness were attended to a social time lunch served and Mrs. W- Death Crediton lost probably its oldest inhabitant and pioneer last Satur­ day evening in Victoria Hospital, London in the person of James Clark who died in his 87th year after an illness of four weeks. James Clark was born June 18, 1849, in Lon­ don Ontario, a son of the late Wm. Clark and his wife Jane. In 187U he was married to Mary $HU, who died six years ago. This union was blest with eight children: Alfred prede­ ceased .his father over a year ago and Laura died when she was nine years of age. Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Francis, of Crediton; Wilbert, of London and Fred of Westlock, Alberta; Mrs. An­ drew Brett, of Red Deer, Alberta; Mrs. Albert Kestle, of Crediton and Mrs. Earnest Hodgson, of Dewberry, Alberta; twoi sisters and one brother Mrs. 'Coultis, of Toronto; Mrs. Mc­ Murray, of Winnipeg and Sidney Clark, of London. He is also sur­ vived by 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Clark when a young man learned the harness making trade at Exeter*»under Mr. Fanson and later came to Crediton where he was engaged! in that busi­ ness for,many years. Ho was a member of the Crediton United Church being on the official board for many years. He was very accom­ modating to friends andi neighbors and an all around highly respected citizen. Memorial service was hold Monday afternoon at the home ol’ Mr. and Mrs Albert Kestle the pas­ tor Rev. J. W. Johnson officiating assisted by Rev. H. Hagelstein, of Fullerton. Mrs. Emerson Gunning of Kirkton sang “Face to Face.” The pall bearers were three grandsons and three nephews, Garnet Hill, Roy Coultis, Harold Hill, Delmar Clark, Howard Clark and Victor. Ash and' babe, of Detroit, is spending a few weeks with Mrs. Ash’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McKeever. Mrs. Brady and two grandchildren Jack and Terry Roach, of Hamilton, are visiting with the former’s' sister Misses Carey. Miss Angelic Mulligan, of Detroit, is visiting friends in the neighbor­ hood. Misses Girtie, Hilda and' Lizzie Dietrich, of London, are spending their holidays at the home of their brother Joseph Dietrich. Mrs. John Regier spent the week­ end in Detroit. Baird, of Crediton, spent Sunday with Mrs. Dave Sturgeon. Most farmers are through with their hay and have started to cut’ wheat. Miss Marjorie Desjardine, of Tor- ronto, is spending a holiday at her home here. Mr. John Ross, of Pt. Huron, held a successful auction sale of his house hold goods Friday. Mr. Ross lives in Pt. Huron at present. The Late Walter England There passed away on Sunday, in his 78th year a highly respected resident of our village in the per­ son of Walter England. Mr. Eng­ land was born at Oshawa and mov­ ing to McGillivray Township with his parents when two years of age, settled near Parkhill. Mr. England lived at Greenway for many years, moving to our village some twelve years ago. Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves three brothers Matthew, of Brussels; Richard, of Niagara Falls and John of Oklahoma one sister Martha in Chicago. The funeral, conducted by Rev. J. B. Moore with interment in the Grand Bend cemetery was largely attended. A large hollow oak tree on the Parkhill side of the camp grounds fell on Wednesday of last week and narrowly missed a tent where some girls were camping. The tree fell across a hydro wire bringing it to the ground by pulling over one of the poles. SHIPKA CENTRALIA and Mrs. Jackson, of Cree-Mr. more, Ont., is visiting with their son Mr. Irwin Jackson. Miss Hannah Rinn has returned home from her vacation having been away with Mr. and Mrs. Ward, of Exeter. Miss Julia Wilson, of St. Marys, is still staying with her sister Mrs. J. Rinn. Mr. Jas. Routly and Mrs. Brock visited a few days last week' with Mr. and Mrs. Warren Brock of Zion. Miss Netta Shier, of London, spent the week-end at her home here. Mrs. John Camm visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Camm. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Webber and Dorothy, spent Friday afternoon last in St. Marys. Rev. Mr. W. Lovegrove has re­ turned' from the North Country but Mrs. Lovegrove and three sons will remain ter three weeks longer. Pym Reunion The annual reunion of the family was held o’n Saturday, 20th at the home of Mr. and E. J. Pym, of Usborne with i eighty descendants of the Pyms pres­ ent. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent in social chat and a very exciting ball game with teams cap­ tained by E. J. Pym and Ewart Pym the former won by a neat score after which all sat down to supper on the beautiful lawn and done ample jus­ tice to all the goods things that were served. A short program of ad­ dresses and messages of greetings was followed by the Baptism of the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Pym the ceremony being performed by Rev. Heber Dickinson of Mont­ real.
