Mr. and Mrs. N. Battersby sons Launce and Frank visited with friends in .Stratford on Sunday. The council finished oiling the roads on (Saturday and the streets are all now in- splendid condition. Davis’ residence on the corner of South Richmond and Nelson Sts., has been rented to Mr. Archie Filshie, who will take possession aftei* the sale. The annual Birthday Party of the W. M. S. of Carmel Church will he held on Thursday afternoon, June 13th in the church, t-he guest speak­ er will be Mrs. A. Taylor, Goderich. The Hensall baseball team played their second game in the O. B. A. Western Counties group series at ’Ailsa Craig on Friday evening last. The Ailsa Craig team won 4 to 3. The Hensall baseball team will play their next scheduled game in the -0. B. A. Mr. and Mrs, Leslie Knight and two children, of Kitchener, and Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Knight and little daughtei’ also of Kitchener spent the week-end here with relatives, also with friends on the Thames Road. Quite a number from the village went down on Sunday to the recent storm swept district south of Elim- ville. It is almost impossible to be­ lieve that the wind did so much damage in such a few minutes. Mrs. (Dr.) Cawthrope and son ■Bob, of Tavistock, were week-end visitors here with hex’ mother, Mrs. Thos Dick and sister, Mrs. Bertha Bell, they were accompanied home by Joe -Cawthrope, wh-o has been vis­ iting here tor several weeks. The Hensail masonic lodge were in Exeter on- Sunday last taking part in the masonic sei'vices held in Trivitt Memorial church. The dif­ ferent lodges of this district were present and paraded to church. They were addressed London. Mr. and Mrs. little daughter, week-end visitors here McMurtrie’s mother, Mrs. Alex Mc­ Murtrie Sr., and his two brothers John McMurtrie, of Stanley Town­ ship and -Hugh of Hay Township. Word was received in the village last week iof the death at her home in Oklahoma City, Okl., on May 9th, of Mrs. E. A. Charters, a former well knowix resident of Hensail. She was in her 78th year. The Young People’s Society, Knox Presbyterian Church, Mitchell, pre­ sented the play, “The iSchool for Scandal” to a crowded house in the Town Hall here on. Friday evening. Each playei’ did their part well and the large audience present had a splendid evening’s entertainment. The -play was giveni under the aus­ pices of the Ladies’ Aid -of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall and was directed by .Rev. A. R. Gibson, of Mitchell. Young People’s Society The Young People’s Society of the Hensall United church invited the young people of Chiselhurst to have a baseball match to close the meeting for the summer at theix’ last meeting on Monday evening, evening was suitable and crowd gathered for the event, game commenced at 6.45 and ended at 8.15, Hensall winning the game. After the game they all gathered at the church and the following pro­ grain closed the meeting. The first number was God .Save the King, fol­ lowed by hymn .291 and prayer led by Rev. Arthur Sinclair. The Scrip­ ture lesson was read by Miss Mil­ dred iSmillie and the minutes of the last meeting were read by the sec­ retary and adopted. A duet was given- by Miss Bella Smale and Miss Kathryn Drysdale., Miss Gladys Luk­ er fav-ored with one of Ed. Guest’s poems which was very interesting. A -piano duet was given by Miss G. Passmore and.Miss V. Watson. This was followed by singing hymn- 15 6 and all repeating tlxe Mizpah Bene­ diction. The rest of the evening wae enjoyed by several games and contests in charge of Miss Tilly Love and a very enjoyable evening was closed with the serving of a dainty lunch. Death of William Moir Mr, William Moiri a well known resident of Hensall since 1907 pass­ ed away at his home here on Thurs­ day. He liae been an invalid since boyhood, but able to get around up till about six months ago when he began to fail rapidly and passed away on Thursday. He was a son of the late Peter and Mre. Moir and was born in Usborne township 64 years ago. In 190'7, he and his sister, Miss Jessie Moir moved to Hensall and they have resided here since, being in poor health all the time. He had the attention, nurs­ ing and devotion of liis sister during the long years of his illness.. He was a member of the United church and attended the services when his health permitted. He is survived by one brother, Mr. Peter Moir, of the London Road, S., and one sister, Miss Jessie Moir, of Hensall. The funeral took place from his late resi­ dence, Queen St., Hensall On- Satur­ day afternoon, interment in the Hensall Union Cemetery, the funeral service being conducted by his past­ or, Rev. Arthur Sinclair. The floral tributes were very beautiful. The ■pallbearers were all relatives of the family Ben Case, Sam Dougal, Jas. Smillie, Di*. Moir, Melvin and Clif­ ford Moir. A number of bands have been engaged including the Forest Boys Band, who will be present during the whole re-union. Presentation Mr. George Thomspon, C. N, R. agent here for the past sixteen years has been transferred to Sebringville and is moving there this week. At the congregational meeting held in the church on Monday -evening of last week Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were presented with a handsome walnut bookcase in appreciation for the faithful services which they render­ ed to the oh-uroh and community during the years they have been here. Miss Jean Thompson tvas presented with an aeropack; and Mrs. Thompson on behalf of the Women’s Association- and the Wo­ men’s Missionary Society with an occasional .chair, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson expressed their thanks in tv very capable manner, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and Jean have -taken an active part in all Cihui’ch work and have been popular citizens of this community and will be missed by their many friends.
