The report of the Sec­ retary showed that the Society had had a successful year with a small balance in the treasury. The fair this year is set for September 16th and 17th. ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of Caven Pres­ byterian church on Monday evening was one of the most enthusiastic and largely attended in many years. It was, as well, the Chiurch’fe. annual family gathering with dinner served by the ladies at six o’clock. The business meeting was presided over by Dr. G. S. Atkinson, Chairman of the Board of Managers and was open­ ed by prayer led by the minister. Rev. S. Moore Gordon B.D, The re­ ports from all the organizations re­ flected a year of intense activity and showed as well splendid success fi­ nancially. The Treasurer wa's able to report some $250 raised in excess of 1933 and a. small surplus at the end' of 1934. Norry reports that 2 6 re­ volvers have been registered since the new law came into effect the first of the year. The law requires that all revolvers must be register­ ed with the chief of police in cities, towns and villages. There is no charge for making the registration but persons who fail to do so are liable on conviction to a fine of $50. or imprisonment not exceeding days. 30 FORMER RESIDENT DIES AT EDMONTON The late Thomas Horn, mention of whose death at Edmonton, on January 3rd, was made last week, was born at Whitby, Ontario, in 1846 and when a small child came to Ex­ eter with his parents. He lived here until 19 0 8 when he went to Watrous Sask., to live with his son, the late Richard H. Horn. Later he moved with him to Regina. Four years ago he went to Edmonton to live with his daughter Mrs. Isabella .Stacey, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by a brother, Henry, of As- siniboia, three grandchildren, Mrs. G. S. McArthur, Edmonton,; S. J. Hicks, Toronto and Miss Gwendolyn Horn, Regina, and two great grand­ daughters, Kathryn and Margaret McArthur, of Edmonton. A pleasing feature of the evening was the presentation of a purse of money to the choir leader for his un­ tiring services. Norman Mitchell gave the address on behalf of the congregation and Herman Powe made the presentation. Mr. Hod.gson made a fitting reply. Next to be called upon was John Esisery who had served the charge for fifty years als Recording Steward and who- had retired from this posi­ tion during the year. G. O. Thomp­ son on behalf of the members of the Official Board spoke words c>f ap­ preciation of the long and devoted work of Mr. Essery and Thos. Boyes made the presentation on behalf of the Officials of Centralia and Whal­ en congregations. Mr. Essery re­ plied in his usual gracious manner. Mr. Albert Mitdhell then fittingly expressed the appreciation of the congregation to the pastor for the services rendered in various capac­ ities during the year .and the even­ ing was brought to a close with the serving of a delightful lunch by the ladies. Mr. Dan Mclsaac, of Machinaw, Mich., and son M. O. Mclsaac, of Detroit called on Mr. and Mrs. P, Mcsaac on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs, Chas. Steinhagen and Mrs. Betty Taylor attended the funeral of her sister the late Mrs. Tait in Parkhill on Tuesday. Parkhill hockey club played friendly game of hockey here Saturday night resulting in a victory I of 6-4 for Parklhill. Mrs. Hiller of Sarnia, is visiting her parents Rev. and Mrs. Herich. Death of Neil Mclsaac McGillivray Township lost a well known and respected resident in the person of Neil Mclsaac who died last (Friday after an illness of two weeks with pneumonia. His death occurred | at the home of Mr. M. Allfeon, where he had made his home for a number of* years. He was in his 7 6th year. Surviving are two brothers Dan, of Mackinaw, Mich, and Peter of De­ troit. 'The funeral was held yester­ day (Monday) when requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Father Cop- coran at Mt. Carmel Church. A large funeral cortege paid respectful tri­ bute to the deceased. Interment took place in Mt. Carmel cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Glenden- ning, P. Doyle, R. AVright, J. Boland J. Carty and R. Allison. Relatives present from a distance included D. Mclsaac, of Mackinaw, Mich., M. O. Mclsaac and Angus Mclsaac, of De­ troit; Dougall Mclsaac and Angus j McEachern, of London. I Dsalnvood' Lutheran Church Annual Zion Lutheran Church at Dash­ wood held its annual meeting on Monday, January 21st. The financial report of the congregation and or­ ganizations within the church were presented and all of them showed a healthy state of affairs. Messrs. L. Rader and AVilliam Stade were elect­ ed to succeed the retiring officers, Messrs. Ed. F. AVillert and R. Muel­ ler. Messrs. P. Martene and Edward Nadiger were appointed auditors. , The election of ushers resulted in Messrs. Edwin Mueller, Melton Wal- per, Harold Kraft, Edward Gackistet- ter, Leonard • Restemeyer and Erwin Rader being chosen for this position. Her many friends wish for a speedy recovery. Miss Ruth Ratz, of Khiva,, visit­ ed at the home of Mr. Richard Hill on Monday. Over seventy-five young people of Crediton and surrounding commun­ ities enjoyed the .fine skating at the Crediton open air rink on Saturday evening. The Exe'ter arena not be­ ing in operation this winter the young people avail themselves of the open air skating. The newly appointed town trustees held their first meeting on January 14th. Mr. G. E. Faist was appointed chairman; A. E. Wuerth, secretary and J. N. Morlock inspector trustee. Clinton Morlock was re-engaged to take care of the street lights. Ed­ ward Fahrner to keep the walks clear of snow and H. F. Eilber was appointed to look after and engine. The anion service of and Evagelical Young cieties last Friday evening was very well attended. The meeting was led by Elarl Haist. Several members of each group led in prayer. An inspir­ ing topic "The Youth and Church” was given by Ruby Fink- 1934 the Lord’s Supper beiner. Miss Marion Lovie and Jean Baynham rendered a vocal duet; a short poem was read by Alwinna Hill. Rev. Mr. Stewart, of Centra­ lia gave the address of the evening. A praise and testimony meeting was led by Rev. A. E. Pletch. Mrs. C. C. Misener, was hostess at a charmingly arranged tea and clip and saucer shower at her home on Saturday from four to six o’clock in honor of Mrs. Ward Fritz, form­ erly Bernice Eilber, a recent bride Mrs. M. W. Telfer greeted the guests who were later received in the draw­ ing-room by the hostess and guest of honor. Tea was served in the drawing-room where the table was lovely "with a filet lace cloth, yel­ low tapers and a centrepiece of daf­ fodils. Mrs. H. K. Eilber poured and Mrs. Charles Fritz, of Zurich, cut the ices. Assisting were Miss Laura -Clark and Miss Helen Telfer. At the conclusion of the tea hour the gifts were presented to the bride by Donald Campbell, young son of the hostess. The work of the Flower Committee was highly com­ mended by several members of the congregation and by the minister, Rev. Mr. Ellfott. Mr. F. J. AVickwire, Treasurer of the Missionary and Maintenance Fund and Local Church Funds re­ ported these funds in a satisfactory condition. ‘The Clerk of the Session, Mr. G. S. Howard, reported 314 members* The congregation lost 7 members by death during the year. Elliott was given a very cordial and unanimous invita­ tion to stay as pastor of M'ain St. United church for the next confer­ ence year. Mr. Elliott replied, speak­ ing for himself and Mrs. Elliott. He spoke of the happiness of their life in Exeter and of the harmony 'and co-operation of the officials and people of Main St. church. Mr. El­ liott accepted the invitation. A vote of thankls was given Mr.! George Mawson for his services on the Board of Stewards. Mr. Maw­ son voluntarily retired this year. Greetings were sent to Mr, and Mrs. T, J. Kestle, January 18th be­ ing Mr. Kestle’s 84th birthday and to Mrs. R,. Quance who would be 79 years old on January 18th. Greetings and good wishes tor his recovery were sent to Mr. Ed, Walk­ er, who was sick at his home. The minister, Mr. Elliott offered the clos­ ing prayer.
