Mr, Wa. Kydd, of usbomq Township, celebrated! his 90th
birthday op Friday, December 2iid* and spent the day at the home
of his son Robert. He was pleased to receive congratulations and
good wishes from neighbors and friends by phone and letter while
a fejv called in person. Mr. Kydd can look back to the days when
the spot where Exeter now .stands was practically all bush, and he
can recall vividly the pioneer days in this community, The follow
ing tribute td Mr. Kydd is paid in verse;,
Mr. Kydd’s hair is snowy white;
His eyes grp clear, sharp, blue and bright;
To read for hours, he has good sight.
Newspapers and books are his delight.
Of memories rich he has great store,
Remembrance clear of days of yore;
He tells good stories by the score,
Songs, jokes, riddles and folklore, ■' 'S'
Of tobacco in any 'shape he knows not the taste;
Intoxicating beverages he considers sheer waste;
To be late for a meeting would be a disgrace, .
Although always in time he never makes haste,

FORMER USBORNE RESIDENT
DIES IN REGINA
.Mr- John Allison, of Regina, Sask.,
a former resident of Usborne Town
ship, die< .last month and was btiried
on Armistice Day. The funeral was
largely attended about seventy mem
bers of the Kiwanias Club attending
in a body, also quite a number of
Oddfellows. About a year ago he
underwent an operation in Mayo
Brothers Hospital, Rochester. He
was 63 years of age, and is surviv
ed by his bereaved widow and two
daughters, both at home. Two sis
ters also survive, Mrs. G. A. Horton
of St. Thomas and Miss Jeanette, a
registered nurse who had waited on
her brother since July. Mr. J. T.
Allison, of the Thames Road, is a
cousin. The last time the deceased
was out was to attend a Chalmers
family picnic at Regina in the sum
mer. The following tribute to the
deceased appeared in the editorial
columns of the Regina Leader and
friends here who knew the deceased
•state that he was worthy of all that
is said about him.
“Those who knew John E. Allison
personally—and possibly thousands
knew him thus—will feel that in his
death, the other day, something of
cherished value has passed from
their lives. Mr. Allison was a man
of more than ordinary forbearance
exceptionally responsive in his' sym
pathies, and rich in exemplification
of the gospel of the helping hand
He had a radiant personality. He
rejoiced in good deeds. What fine;’ .attribute could any one desire? 7
Mr. Allison, at his death, branch
manager of an‘insurance company in
Regina, had been identified with
the prairie West for almost 40 years
and a resident of this city for 17
years. Ontario has given many na
tive sons to the West, but possibly
none richer in all the vital things
of life than this genial gentleman
whom harrowing illness has finally
taken from the scene,
son” is a name that
stand for something
inspiring to those who
fortune to enjoy his acquaintance.’-
