Schroeder and two children, of Fairfield, spent Sunday with Mrs, Wilson Anderson and Mrs. Silas Brokenshire. Mr, Thomas Yuli and Mr, and Mrs. Frank Scheiding, of London spent the week-end with the latter’s parents, Mr, and Mrs, Henry Motz Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Heatherly ana daughter, Thelma, and Mr. (Stanley Kelly, ail of London, spent iSuhday with Mr. and Mrs. Henry^Motz. Miss Annie Waghorri, of London spent the week-end with her parents Mr. and Mrp. Fred Waghorn. Mr* -John' Baird, of Grand (Bend who has been under the doctor’s care has moved to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Sims, and wil’ remain there for some time, ' Mr. and Mrs. fijtuart Kuhn, o' Baden, spent Sunday with the form-, er’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry -Kuhn. Mr. and Mrs.'Wes Wein, of neai Dashwood, spent Sunday with the former’s brother, Mr, and Mrs, A Wein., and they were present, On the arri­ val of the hri'de-elect Mre. Welling­ ton ,Skinper played Mendelssohn? Wedding March until she was seated in her* special chair. Then Mr, Del­ mar skinner who very capably" act­ ed as chairman, rose and addressed Miss Heywood in a few apt ano humorous, . remarks and then pro­ ceeded with the* .program which was as follows: solo, "Ah, the Sweet Mystery, of Life,’’ by Mr,. Kenneth Johns; reading “A fierce Torment” by. Miss Mary Hodgins; violin sel­ ection, "Minuet in G” by Miss Flor­ ence Bell; reading, "When I am a Woman,” by Miss Ednd Hudgins; vocal duet, 'Whispering Hope,” by Mrs. Ern. Foster and Mrs. Ed. Johns reading "Aunt Het on t Matrimony”, by Miss Reta Hartwick; piano solo "Robins Return” by Mr Lome El­ ford; reading, ’‘Miss Dorothy enter­ tains the Minister” by Miss Mary Hodgins; piano solo "A trip ,to the Moon” by Miss Margaret Johns; reading, "How to coolk a husband” by Mrs. Ern. Foster. Rev. Peters gave a short address and the pro­ gram dosed with singing "For she’s a jolly good fellow”. Little Miss Isabelle Cooper then drew in a decorated wagon, loaded to overflow­ ing with gifts which Miss Heywooa ,unwrapped and then passed around Xor all to see. The recipient rose and made a very 'suitable reply thanking all for their kindness and express­ ing her pleasure at meeting so many ’r.'ends whom she .has not seen for a long time as she has been teach­ ing school for a few years at Math­ eson only returning home the firs: of the woek. A delicious lunch was served to all and after showering the bride-elect liberally with confet­ti all ^repaired to their homes with conjectures, as usual, as to who will be the next lucky young lady. KHfVA MrS) Mary Walker and Catherine visited in Detroit a'few days last week. Mr. Harry Lippert spent the week-end with his parents in Mel­ bourne. - Mr. Chris Dietrich and family spent Sunday with Mr. arid Mrs. J Dietrich. Mr, Jerome O’Rourke spent Mon­ day in London on busindsb. Shower for Bride-Elect On Friday evening of last week about forty neighbours and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. L Dietrich in honour of her daughter Sidonoia, bride-elect of this week and presented Siidonia with a mis­ cellaneous shower. The gifts were brought into the living room in a gaily decorated, basket which held many useful gifts for the young bride’s home. The bride very ably responded thanking all for their useful gifts. The remainder of the evening was spent in cards and' dan­ cing, after which a dainty lunch was served. Sweit­ zer at 2 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Keys and family,' of Exe'ter, and Mrs. John Keys, of Herisa’ll, visited relatives herein Sunday. Miss Ila (Sweitzer, of London spent the week-end at the home oi her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt, Sweitzer. , Miss Edith Ball, of London, is abending a week’s vacation at her home here, Mr. Theodore Dietrich had the misfortune to-have his collar bone broken and a fractured rib by a team of horses running away the past week, ’ * Mrs. Scarett and Mrs. Hodgins, of Sarnia, visited on Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. -Fred Sharpe ELIMVILLE j Mr^ and Mrs., John Francis, of London, spent la few days with rela­ tives here last week. Mrs/ Carlie Ragier and two chil­ dren are .visiting friends in Detroit. Mr. Simon Dietrick, of Sarnia, spent the week-end with his cousin Mr, Joseph Dietrich. Mr. Thomas O'Rourke was taken to St, Joseph’s Hospital, London, on Thursday where he underwent an operation for appendicitis. ' Mr. Daniel Morrison, of Detroit is spending a few days with his brother Stephen Morrison. Mrs. J. Walk er returned home last week after a pleasant visit with her CENTRALIA Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson and Jean visited with Mr. and Mrs. J. Routledge in Hamilton over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elston, of De­ troit, attended the funeral, of the late Mrs. Wm. Davis in Biddulph on Saturday of last week and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Penwarden over Sunday. On Sunday evening October 30th the service in the ^hurch here will be in charge of the members of the Woman’s Missionary Society and they will present the pageant en­ titled “The Unshadowed Cross.” Ser­ vice at 7 p.m. A very sociable evening was re­ cently spent at the .home of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Boyes when the employ­ ees of the C.N.R. and their wives presented them with a purse of mon­ ey. Although completly taken by Surprise-Mr. BoyeS expressed his ap­ preciation in a very capable manner. The evening was spent in games and friendly chat. Lunch was served by the ladies. On Friday evening of last week a large number from here motored to Clinton t,o attend the debate held in the Ontario (Street United church. Miss Hazel Smiths and Mr. Gerald Godbolt debated with North /Street United church, Goderich in the final debate of the contest and were suc­ cessful in. winning the trophy of the Huron Presbytery. This is the first time that South Huron has had the honour of holding the trophy. We congratulate the debaters on their splendid success. ' Mrs, L. Elston of Exeter, visited with Mr. and ..Mrs, Fred Penwardeh, on Sunday. Miss Jennie .and Rechal Wilson spent the week-end with Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton at Ailsa Craig. GRAND BEND Mr. and Mrs, JJ. W. Holt visited Mr, and Mrs. Abner Mollayd in Sar­ nia on Thursday and Friday, Mr, B. Bossenberry, of Hotel Im­ perial has moved to his recently purchased hotel in Forest. Mrs.. John Baird has gone to spend the winter with her daughters in Crediton. * Mr. -and Mrs. Mark Wild leave on Thursday for their trip South. They expect to be gone all winter, Mr. and Mrs, Jim Delzeal, of Pt. Huron, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wm) Petterson for a couple of weeks have returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Green attend­ ed the wedding of their daughter Ruth in Detroit last week and visit­ ed friends 'elsewhere. Mrs. John Eagleson visited her sister Mrs.') Thompson, of M't. Car­ mel over the week-end, Mr. Phile, of Detroit, will soon have his new home completed and ready to move in and become a resi­ dent of the Bend. We welcome him to the village. Mrs. M. The congregation of Zion Luther­ an church held their first fowl sup­ per recently in the church shed. This community including Zurich and Crediton whose people are practic­ ally all of German descent is espec­ ially famous throughout Western Ontario for its fine fowl suppers. The Dashwood Brass Bend provided entertaining music -\vhile about 700 people were served at the tables af­ ter which an interesting program was given by local talent with War­ den L. H. Rader acting as chairman. The program included a welcome song by six girls, selections by an orchestra conducted by E. J. Wai- per and an address by the pastor Rev. W. Ness,' Following this a playlet "How the Story Grew” was given by members of the Walther League, Miss Ella Eveland gave a monologue entitled, "A (Confirmed Old Maid.”'Alvin and Norman Wal­ per gave several, vocal duets w^hjeh received rousing applause from 'the audience. Another play entitled "All That Glitters is Not Gold” was given by ‘Mrs. C. Wildfong, Miss K Merner and Edmund and Norman Walper. Mr. Martin Lamb delight­ ed the audience with a monologue Another playlet "Messrs Fox and Box” by Mrs. G. Wildfong, E. Ha­ macher and A. Walper, an instru­ mental duet by Mi$s Nelda and Reta Fassold, and a cornet solo by Alvin Walper concluded a program which in spite of its length, held „ the audience thrilled to its closed The, following committees were in charge of the affair. .Supper com­ mittee, Mrs. A.
