Word was received in the village of the. death of Mr. Gavin Ross Mom?, of Quebec, formerly of Hensall. Mr. Moir was born in Hensall 81 years hgo and went to Quebec 60 years ago where he was employed by the Ross & Co., Shipping Merchants ana with whom he stayed until retire­ ment. Funeral of Alice Bell The funeral of Miss Alice Bell, of Tuckersmith took place from fter late residence on Friday afternoon last, The service was conducted by her pastor Rev. w, A. Young, ot the Carmel Presbyterian Church as­ sisted by Rev. Arthur Sinclair pas^ tor of the United Church. Inter­ ment taking place in the Hensall Union cemetery. The deceased was in her 63rd year and until a couple of weeks ago she was going around quite actively. Mr. and Mrs. William Routly, GIRL DROWNED , AT GRAND BEND Caught in the undertow as heavy breakers rolled on the bathing beach Bernice McPherson, 15, daughter of Mrs. Wes. Horne were visitors with Mr. ami Mrs. h. L McPherson, Port Rev. and Mrs. Smith near Winthrop Huron, was drowned late Thursday onz Sunday. ■ Miss Lois (Smith, Who spent laet week here returned home with them. Mrs. Horne remained also for this week. , (Mr.' and Mrs. Harry Murch, of London, were Sunday visitors at Mr. P. Murch’s. We have a number of enthusias­ tic flower growers in our village and vicinity who have some lovely specimens but Mr. Robt. Woods and son Jackson have a wonderful display of dahlias, some of them of the cactus variety being as large as dinner plates and of beautiful col­ ors. They have also other variet­ ies which are a delight to all who see them-, Mr. Lewis Woods, oi Londdn, takes great pleasure in the cultivation - and care of these flow­ ers and has also a beautiful rose garden at his father’s home which is in flower from June till the snow flies. Mr. Wes. Horne has a beau­ tiful rose tree which had about 150 roses -open at one timO, a few weeks ago and it is still flowering pro­ fusely. These roses are pure white’ perfect in form and were as large as five inches across. There will be service in this church next Sunday morning at' 10.30 a.m. Sunday School at 2 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Alec Vivian, of Strat­ ford, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Rennie, or Shakespeare were guesss on Sunday at. the T4 afternoon. As 4ieavy waves mounted, Bernice McPherson and Miss McKay were jumping the waves hand in hand when one of the breakers swept’both girls from their feet. When Miss McKay had regained her feet K the other girl had disappeared beneath the water. The alarm raised brought many cottagers to the otherwise deserted beach and the better swimmers plunged into the lake at the spot of the drowning about half a mile south of the pier. The body was found floating on the surface of the lake near the spot where she disappeared at 5.30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The (body was found by Dr. Nor­ man Schram," of London. Minutes of the last meeting were read ana approved. Some items of business were considered and discussed and the meeting was brought to a close in the usual way. Mr. Wilson Anderson Dies This community was shocked on Sunday morning whey they heard or the sudden death of Mr. Wilson An­ derson in his 75th year. Mr. Ander­ son was as well as usual on Satur­ day morning and at noon hour suf­ fered a hemorrhage and passed away early Sunday morning.
