The study was introduced by the president from Chapter five, of "Korea” Land of the pawn” and the story was continued by Mrs, Elder, Mrs. Coles, Miss Foss and Mrs, Ag­ nes McDonald and the meeting dos­ ed in prayer. The Young People of the United Church held their meeting on Mon­ day evening with a good attendance and with Miss Doreen yarquliar pre­ siding, Misses F« Fess and Irene Douglas having charge of the pro-, gram. After the opening exercises a reading was given by Miss Mil­ dred Scruton followed by a solo by MTs. Maude Hedden .and an instru­ mental duet, by Misses Gladys Pass- more and Grace Brock, after which a reading was given ?,y Mrs, D. Huntley. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Mizpah benediction. The first regular mooting of the Library Board for the year was held in the Town Hall on January 23rd, the Mrs. hill, Mr. and McNaughton gave a report finances of the board which has a balance of $107,'98 on hand. The library had a circumtion of 8000 books during the year and is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from two till five and seven until nine p.m. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Henry will be sorry to hear of the death of their eldest daughter (Margaret). Mrs. Robert Wright Which occurred suddenly at their home in Cass City, Mich., on Tues­ day last. Mrs. Wright was born at Marquis,. Sask,, twenty years ago and moved from there with her par­ ents to Cass City some years ago where they conducted a grocery store, , They were frequent visitors iwitli Hensall friends.. She hag been In pool* health since December but her death came as a shock* to her friends. She was married to her now bereaved husband two. years ago and besides him she leaves to mourn her loss father and mother, one sis­ ter, Frances and one brother Del­ bert. The funeral took place from the home of her parents in Cass City on Thursday afternoon. Amongst those who attended the funeral from this' district were: Mr. and Mrs. John- G. Scott and Miss Flossie Dow, of Cromarty. The annual congregational meet­ ing of the United church was held on Wednesday with a large atten­ dance. Deep interest was shown in all the reports and activities of the church which were, with very little exception, most encouraging and manifested progress and advance­ ment for the past year notwithstand­ ing present conditions, At the close of the business meet­ ing the .pastor and- his wife were presented with a most beautiful bouquet of flowers, the presentation being made by Mrs. Edgar McQueen accompained by a fine- address by Henry. Horton, chairman of the church Session, Mr. Sinclair replied on behalf of his wife and himself. At the close of the meeting and ad­ dress the ladies of the league served lunch, which was much enjoyed. Hearty votes of thanks were ten­ dered the minister, choir leader W. O. .Goodwin, .organist, Miss El­ eanor Fisher and to all the officials and officers of the church. HENSAEL Miss Beryl Pfaff, of London, spent the week-end with her niothei* here. Mr, Charles Rhodes, of Toledo, O.t visited last week with Mr, and Mrs. Laird Mickle. Mr. Andrew Hicks and Mr. Thos. Willis, of Centralia called on Hen­ sall friends <on Saturday. Mr, and Mrs. C. Cook have return­ed home after a few days visit with Relatives and friends in Detroit, Mr, and Mrs. Thos. McNeil and Mrs. Wm. Higgins, of Clinton, call­ ed on friends in town on Saturday, Mrs, Pebblar, of Hanover, who ha& been visiting relatives here for the past few home, Mrs, (Dr,) is visiting for parents Mr, Sheffer. The Hensall Spring Show will be held on April 12th and the fair dir­ ectors are making every effort to make it a good success. A new-time dance will be held in the Town Hall on. Friday evening February 12th The music will be furnished by Scott Welsh and his Melody Boys. In the St Paul’s Anglican church the rector, Rev, Mr, Parker occup­ ied the pulpit and in the morning Holy Communion was observed. Miss Glady Luker has returned after a very pleasant visit with friends in Stratford, She has again resumed her duties aS book-keeper for Mr. T'. C. Joynt. Miss Margaret SlaVin, who un­ derwent an operation at the Scott Memorial Hospital, ‘Seaforth last week was able to return home Sat­ urday and is now doing nicely. Mrs. Fred Bonthron gave a birth­ day party at her home, on Monday afternoon for a number of her el­ derly lady friends, A number of others were present and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. The A.Y.P.A. of St.JPaul’s Angli­ can. church held a very pleasant ^neeting on Monday evening when T^^e Clinton Y'omig People were en- tt^tained. A splendid program was given by the Clinton Young People and a dainty lunch was served by the Hensall young people. The Welfare Youth’s Club of the Carmel Presbyterian church held their meeting on Monday evening/ After the opening exercises the roll call and business were taken after which the Bible lesson was read by Irene Daters. The meeting closed with a hymn and prayer and an hour was spent in games and contests. Dr. A. Moir, who has efficiently held the office’ of Medical Health Officer for a number of years has resigned that position. He lias'done this out of deference to the Hensall doctors, ohtli of whom have referred patients to his Sanatorium. Dr. Moir has been complimented by the Health Department for carrying out his sometimes difficult duties SO sat- ifactory with a minimum of friction. Services in the Carmel Presbyter­ ian church were well attended Sun­ day last with the Pastor Rev. Jas. McIlroy having charge of the ser­ vices, In the evening a male sex­ tette was given by Messrs, Robert McLaren, Jas. Bengough, Verne Hedden, Jas. Mustard, Orville Tay­ lor and JerrO Denfield entitled *‘Rocfc< of Ages.” The pastor, Rev. a. Sinclair, oc­ cupied the chair, calling first on the secretary, A. W. E. Hemphill, and the treasurer, Mark Drysdale, for the main reports and afterwards on the heads of all the societies and organizations connected with the 1 church. The congregation enters ' upon the present year inspired by . the reports as submitted. All offi­ cers and committees of the past year were re-elected. Services in the were well attended the occasion being when a ladles choir of some 3 6 voic­ es led the singing and. Rev. A. Sin­ clair having charge of the services. Special music was given by the choir and in the morning a duet was giv­ en by Mrs. Sinclair and Miss Flor­ ence Welsh, by Mrs. Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Drysdale. Sinclair's evening subject was Woman’s intuition,’* We understand that Dr. Moir, medical health officer, has resigned at the request of the council. Some time ago Dr. Moir sold hig practice in the village and has (been living on his farm a mile and a quarter south of Hensall. Crediton United Church hut the the The United Church of -Crediton recently held their annual business meeting in the basement of the church. Rev H. W, Hagelstein, who is finishing the third year of his pastoral term, occupied the chair. The secretary recorded a splendid attendance. Reports were given from all departments of the church. The treasuries of the congregation, missions, W.M.S., Women’s- organi­ zation and Young People’s Societies were found in a satisfactory condi­ tion. Most of them had met theii* obligations, and missions was only ,$20 less than last year. The anni- verary service of the past year, with Rev, R. A. Brooks, of Milverton, as their special speaker, also gave sat­ isfactory results. The following stewards were ap­ pointed: Richard Hill, Wm. Maw- hinney, M. Telfer, George Hirtzel, W. Jones and Thos. The choir rend­ ered an anthem entitled “The Lord Is. My Shepherd” solo by Ray Guen­ ther ‘Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep’; solo by Harry Hoffman “Teach Me To Pray”; an address by Mrs. G. Wilfong and Mr. Saurer which was very much appreciated. A duett by Mrs. A. E. Oestriclier and Cathern Finkbeiner "Sweet Hour of Prayer.’ A special collection was taken in aid of the mission field. Exeter were Mr. and.- Mrs. tee for next month. Plans were made to hold a "pork and beans” supper on February 24, with the following committee in charge of the supper arrangements., Mrs. D, Tiernan, Mrs. R. Goetz, Miss E. Bender, Mrs. V. Schatz and Mrs. J. Wdldfong. The choir executive to have charge of the program. WINCHELSEA is W. M. S. Day of Prayer Sunday was the appointed Day of Prayer for the Crediton W. M. S. The sermon in the morning by the pastor M. Sippell had the touch of Christian activity arid a broader view of the responsibilities of the church. In the afternoon the W, M. S. met in‘the basement of the church for an hour of Missionary Prayer, conducted by the- president, Mrs. Louisa .Schwartz. The evening’s program brought out a splendid au­ dience and a printed program of re­ sponsive readings and prologues was followed. The- special selections of music were: anthem by the choir; chorus by a large group Of boys and girls of the Y.P.M.C.; vocal duett by Mrs. H. K. Eilber and Mrs. M. Sip­ pell; chorus by the members of the W.'M.S. and the closing was a pipe organ and piano duett by Miss. Ad- dileen Gaiser and Misg Bernice Eil- bar. All numbers were excellently rendered. The offering was for the support of the parent missionary treasury which at this time unfor­ tunately lias a large deficit. Educational Meeting The Crediton branch of the W. I. met Tuesday evening, February 2nd. Mrs. M, Telfer, the- president opened the meeting in the regular manner. I. and put on a geography match at this juncture. Miss Alma smith took charge of tlie contest on the word "Education.” This same commit­ tee with the addition of Miss B. Kin­ noy and Miss Feari Love then con­ ducted the interesting features of a social half-hour. Mrs. Elmer Law- son and Mrs. Thos.
