Stephen w. Lower, 74, a pioneer
/Citizen and business man of La
OPorte, Ind., died suddenly in his
hardware store Thursday afternoon
'of last week after being seized’ with
a heart attack, he having suffered
from Angina pectoris, With him
at the time of his death was his
brother, W. J. Lower, partner in the
atpre, and step-father of (Mrs, John
Taylor, of Exeter, he having visited
lieye on various occasions. In ad
dition to 'being one of the veteran
'merchants of La Porte the deceas
ed was prominent in politics being
a member of the County Council and
a past president of the County Fail'
Association for many years. He and.
Mrs. Lower celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary on September
29th. Besides his wife he is sur
vived by one son ,ana one daughter.
The voting contest for tivo large
doll houses and thirteen beautiful
dolls at W- S- Cole’s Drug store,
came to- a close at ten o’clock Christ-
ansa Eve. It was an anxious time
for many little girls until at eleven
thirty the results were announced.
Joan Wells, won the first prize doll
house and the Willis twins, daugh
ters of John Willis, of town, won
the second doll house. Doris Pen-,
hale won the 3rd prize, a very large
doll while the next twelve dolls were

Mason, Morna Vahey, Ruth Pearce,
.Viola Bierling, Grace Snell, Dorothy

under twelve years of age from the
town and surrounding country en
tered into the contest. In many
cases the contest was very close and
Mr. Cole gave to .Mae King and Mary
Kirk a doll each as consolation
prizes' for their splendid showing.
