Last Sunday the minister, Rev. J, Bernard. Rhodes, <M. A., preached both morn­ ing and evening special Christmas sermons. In the moaning the choir rendered a Christmas anthem in which the solo pares were taken by Messrs. Charley Qlaaman and Ray Pryde, There was also a very well rendered quartette by Mrs. Camp­ bell and Miss Hamilton and Messrs. Charley Gladman and Kenneth Stanbury. In the evening anthem there was a very acceptable duet by Misses K. Strang and H. Stanbury Stephen W. Lower, 74, a pioneer citizen and business man of La jporte, Ind,, died suddenly in his hardware store Thursday afternoon 'of last week after being seized with a heart attack, he having suffered from Angina pectoris. With him at the time of his death was his brother, W. J. Lower, partner in the stpre, and step-father of IMrs. John Taylor, of Exeter, he having visited here on various occasions. Ini ad­ dition to 'being one of the veteran merchants of La Porte the deceas­ ed was prominent in politics being a member of the County Council and a past president of the County Fair Association for many years. He and Mrs. Lower celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on September 29th. Besides liis wife he is sur­ vived by one son ,ana one daughter. Exeter Markets Wheat, Me.. The voting contest for two large <1011 houses and thirteen beautiful 'dolls at TV, 'S, Cole’s .Drug store, came to-a close at ten o’clock Christ- ansa Eve. It was an anxious time for many little girls until at eleven thirty the results were announced. Joan Wells, won the first prize doll house and the Willis twins, daugh­ ters of John Willis, of town, won the second doll house. Doris Pen- . hale won the 3rd prize, a very large idoll while the next twelve dolls were (won by Norma Parsons, Verna Ra_ hethge, Norma Wilson, Shirley Preszcator, Doris Webber, Annie Mason, Morna Vahey, Ruth Pearce, -Viola Bierling, Grace Snell, Dorothy Kydd and Florence Kirk. jOne hun­ dred and twenty three little girls under twelve years of age from the town and surrounding country en­ tered into the contest. In many cases the contest was very close and .
