The Sunday school of the United Church held their annual Christ mas entertainment on Wednesday evening last in the basement of the church. A very good program was very ably given by the scholars to a very appreciative audienc^. At the close of the program Santa Claus appeared and presented each schol ar with a gift. Services in the United church were well attended on Sunday last with Rev. Arthur Sinclair occupy ing the pulpit, In. the morning Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was observed and solo parts in the an them were taken by Miss G, Lam- mie, Mrs. Maude Hedden and Mr. W. O. Goodwin and in the evening solos were given by Mrs. Maude Hedden and Mr. T. Sherritt and a violin solo -by Miss Greta Lammie. The doll contest, which has been going on for some weeks, creating much excitement and interest among the children, ended on Christmas Eve. The final standing was as follows: Lois McLaren, Elaine Peck, Mary Goodwin, Ruth Hess, Gloria Twitchell. Marion Drummond, Dorothy 'Halliday, Nor ma Cook, Jean Venner, Lois Mof fat, Annie Carlyle, Kathleen Jones, Dorothy Daters, Patsy Mitchell, El- va McQueen. In addition to the 115' prizes Mr. Hemphill gave 10 additional prizes to- the following: Elaine Thompson, Erna Weber, Betty Rowcliffe, Mar garet McGregor, Emily Hoskins- Donna McEwan, Mary Clark, Loret ta Bell, Evelyn Corbett, Madeline Vanlandeyhain. The late John Hicks Relatives in the village received word on Tuesday last of the death of Mr. John Hicks, which occurred in Beamsville Monday last. Mr. Hicks was a son of the late Tlios. and Mrs. Hicks, of Chiselhurst and spent his early life there. He was a school teacher by profession and taught at Wyoming and Stoney Creek and for the last 25 years lias been principal at the public School at Beamsville, whe?e he also -owned and managed a large fruit farm and also a poultry farm, exhibiting his prize stock at the .big exhibitions in' Ontario; .Mr. Hicks has had heart trouble for some time but had been able to •carry on liis ditties until Monday, when he passed away in his 62nd year. Besides liis bereaved widow he leaves to mourn his loss two sons and two daughters. The funer al took place from his late home at Beamsville on ■ Thursday afternoon interment being in Beamsville cem etery. Mr. Hick’s many friends in Hensail and Chiselhurst will be sor ry to learn of his death. Nomination Meeting The nomination meeting to nom inate candidates .to fill the positions of reeve, councillors, public utilit ies and three school trustees for the village of Hensall for 1932 was held in the Town Hall Monday ev ening with Jas. At the close Of the nomination a public meeting was held with Mr. Paterson acting as chairman. An organ and piano prelude hr Addileen Gais er and Bernice Eilber gave the pro gram an excellent opening. The miscellaneous part presented by the beginners, primaries and juniors really invited the keenest interest among the partnal part of the au dience and it was exceptionally well rendered. The cantata, "The Ros© of Bethlehem” was energeti cally ^rendered and from the (begin ning to end. the participants had the dialogue and control. (The miscellaneous, Smith, Ruby Morlock H. K.
