Mr. Th°mas Hudson, of Marlette Mich., has returned home after vis­ iting his mother and other relatives in and around Hensall. . Mr. Wm, Caldwell, who lias been visiting with his many relatives and friends in this district has re­ turned to his home in the West. Mr. Abbot and son, Ralph, of London, former residents- of Hen- Ball called on friends here this week their many friends see them again. We had our first on Wednesday of Worthy citizen, C. S. McDonnell very pleas­ antly entertained the members of lier Sunday school class to tea on Friday evening last. After tea the evening was’ spent in games and music. The young people all enjoy­ ed themselves. The Hensall Firemen have their Christmas Tree in front of the Town Hall all nicely decorated with colored electric lights and when the lights are on it presents quite a nice appearance. They expect to hold the annual Christmas Tree next week. The A.Y.P.A. of St. Paul’s Angli­ can Church very pleasantly enter­ tained the A.Y.P.A. of Bayfield on Monday evening. There was a good attendance, the Bayfield young peo­ ple putting on a lengthy program, which was much enjoyed by all. Lunch was served. The Arnold Mission iCircle and Mission Band of Carmel Presbyter­ ian Church- held a very successful Bazaar on Saturday afternoon and evening last. The booths consisted ■of fancy 'work, home made cooking and candy and they also served a chicken pie supper. Our merchants have their stores and store windows nicely decorated for Christmas. They present a .very pleasing appearance with anything and everything that even Santa Claus can have a splendid choice to choose his presents for Hensall and surrounding district. St. Paul’s Anglican church are putting on a concert and play in the Town Hall on Monday evening, Dec­ ember 21st. The play is entitled, “Love Gift,” or “Why the Chimes Ring.” The Anglican people are noted for their splendid concerts and plays and no doubt will have as good a crowd as usual. The Sunday School of the United church intend holding their Christ­ mas entertainment *n the basement Of the church on Wednesday even­ ing, December 23rd. A splendid program is being prepared of read­ ings, drills, choruses and a panto­ mine all by the scholars there will also be a Christmas Tree and Santa Glaus is expected to be present. 'Mr. Kenneth Simpson’ is able to be out around again after his recent operation, Mr. George Hicks made a notable record in shooting last week when he killed eighty sparrows with one shot. Don’t forget the Christmas Enter­ tainment and -Christmas Tree on Monday, December 21st in the aud­ itorium of the chprch commencing at eight o’clock. The program con­ sists of readings, choruses and a Christmas Pageant entitled, "We have seen the star.” Mr. Joe Durham, , of Watertown and Mrs. Durham, of Brantford, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. .Stanley McFalls and family and Mr. Robert McFalls, of London, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Willis. Annelda Sholdice, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lome Sholdice had the misfortune to cut hei' eye with a knife while cutting a string, one day last week. She was immediate­ ly removed to Victoria Hospital in London. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Sholdice hope that she will soon recover. Mr. Truman Mills, of St. Cathar­ ines, spent Monday with her parents Mr. and Mrs, Harry Mills. On Thursday evening of last week Messrs. Harold Fisher, Richard Parker, Joe White, entertained a large number of friends to a dance in the Exetei’ Opera House. Every­ one present reported a real good time. Annual Meeting of W. A. The annual meeting of the Wo­ men’s Association was held in the basement of the church on Thursday afternoon December 3rd at 2.30 pan., with the president Mrs. N, Mitchell in the chair. The meeting was opened by the use of hymn 380 after which Mr. Robb led in prayer. A short business session was ’ held The association decided to pay $2. to the Shed Fund. The winding of the clock showed that $118.8'5 was derived from this enterprise. ReV. Mr. Robb then took the chair for the election of officers: Pres., Mrs. W. Bowden; 1st Vice-Pres., Mrs. T. Willis; 2nd Vice-Pres., Mrs. Byron Hicks; Treasurer, Mrs. L. Hodgson; Secretary, Flossie Davey; Assistant, Mrs. W. J. Parsons; Pianist, Mrs. A. Essery. Mrs. R. The annual Christmas entertain­ ment in connection with the United Church Sunday School will be held on Friday evening, December 18th. A good program is 'being prepared’ consisting of choruses, drills, recita­ tions and pantomines; also a Christ­ mas feature entitled “The Search of the Shepherds” which will be pre­ sented in twelve tableaux. Come and help along the,work of the Sun­ day School. The Crediton branch of the W. I. held their annual Christmas party last week in the institute Hall. Mrs. M. Teller, the president opened the meeting in the accustomed manner. The roll call brought forth many excellent suggestions for caserole, dishes; current events by Mrs. L. England; a paper on “Home Econ­ omics” by Mrs. Wm. Oestricher af­ ter which Mrs. H. IC. Eilber and Al­ ma Smith added the reading of brief clippings on the subject. Miss Keddy 'the representative of Huron dis- district, gave a report of the W. I. convention held at London; vocal duett by Clara Morlock and Lavina Smith, “Heralds of Glory”; piano duet Elva Wuerth and Marguerite Oettinger; recitations by Shirley Ypung/ “Prescribing for Santa”. At this juncture Santa appeared with a large basket of “Exchange Gifts.” •This was the beginning of a very pleasant social hour with lunch. The hostesses were, Mrs. Emmery Falir- ner, Mrs. E. Gettinger; Mrs. Harry Beaver and Mabel FahTner. A vote of thanks was tendered to Miss Keddy, the hostesses and decorat­ ing committee, by Mrs. A. Amy and Mrs. H. K. Eilber. Remember the Evangelical Christ­ mas Concert on the evening of Dec­ ember 24th. The miscellaneous program will have many bright touches and the cantata by the or­ ganized classes uually is the climax of the evening. The large commit­ tee cordially welcomes the commun­ ity of interested friends. The annual meeting of the W-o- 'men’s Association of the United Church was held in the .Sunday School rooms on Thursday, Decem­ ber 10th, The usual business was transacted with tile past President, Mrs. F. Clarke presiding. The treasurer’s report showed the As­ sociation had had a very success­ ful year financially. There had al­ so been seven new members added during the year. 'Coward. Mrs. Wm. Pollen spent the early part of the week with Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Pollen. The hunters captured 90 rabbits the past week. The many friends and acquaint­ ances of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Mackey, (nee Agnes Fenwick) will be inter­ ested to know, they have another little daughter, at Women’s Hospit­ al, New York. Both mother and babe are fine. The members of Roy’s United Church have been exemplifying the Christmas spirit and during the past week have distnbuted three au­ to loads of provisions among needy families in London. The loads con­ sisted of fruit, honey, potatoes, apples, carrots and ground cereal and was most graciously .received by those in need. The members of Troy's Church are to be congratu­ lated in this splendid spirit of giv­ ing. Progress Club The above’ club met on Wednesday evening with a good attendance. Rev. Anthony acted as chairman.. The meeting was opened by singing and the scripture reading was given by Wm. Lamport. The program was in charge of Wm. Cann to which Miss Jessie Monteith contributed a solo; Tom Fairon, a humorous read­ ing on skating; Messers. Ivan and Wm. Stewart .guitar and mouthor­ gan duetts; the questionaire was in­ teresting and proved we needed our Bi'bical knowledge brushed up. Mrs. Anthony's group scored the largest number of methods of travelling, 3>6 ways. A talk on the first rudi­ ments of carpentry was given and sbme creditable samples were shown made by different members. Mr. Wm.
