W. C. T. U.
The regular meeting of the W.
C. T. U. was held in Main Street
Church. on November 30th. Mrs.
Pearce, Evangelistic gupt., presided
during very helpful devotional ex

and prayers were offered by sever

passages of scripture were read—Is

ray presided over the remainder of
the meeting. The minutes of the pre
vious meeting were read and adopt
ed. Mr. W- H. Johnston gave those
present a very fine talk on Peace.
He said he was pleased to have this
opportunity of speaking on the sub
ject, it had started him thinking
along some lines. If we thought
more about the uselessness of war
and the awful consequences we
might think more about peace. What
did Germany gain through the
Great War? She says she is now
bankrupt, when she might have been
so wealthy if she hadn’t gone into
war, in ten years time we can
hardly estimate what her wealth
would have been. What did it mean
to Canada? It means that every year
it takes fifteen dollars for every
man, woman and child in Canada to
carry the expenses of that war.
Sixty thousand of the flower of our
land lest their lives, to say noth
ing of the suffering it caused the
fathers, mothers and sweethearts.
And those who came back, so many
of them were not the fine young
men they were when they went
