Ren nie. Mr. and Mrs. Bell, of Sit. Thomas, are visiting with their many rela tives and friends in and around Hensall. Dr. Jas. Grey, of Beattie, Wash., and Mr. John Grey, of Toronto were recent visitors with their sister Mrs. S. Smiilie. Mrs. Peter Fisher and Miss El eanor have returned home after a •weeks vacation with friends in Gravenhurst. Captain Fairmell, of the Old Age Pension Department, Toronto, was in tpwn Friday calling on the old age pensioners of Hensall. Captain Fairmell will call on all those re ceiving pensions in Huron, Perth and Bruce Counties and will make a general survey of this district and make his report to Toronto. He has about finished Perth County and has spent three weeks in Huron He is now working in the south end of the county. The Women’s Missionary Society of the United; Church held their regular meeting on Thursday after noon last in the basement of the church. Owing to the albsen/cd of the president, Mrs. Sinclair took the chair. After the opening exer cises, an instrumental duet urns given by Misses I. Douglas and F. Foss and a solo by Mrs. Hedden. Af ter whi-ch a dev-otional leaflet was read by Miss Gonsitt and the study taken by Mrs. Elder, Mrs. Hedden, Mrs. Habkirk and Mrs, Anna Me- Donell. Eight Straight Wins for, Hensall Hensall won their eighth straight win Friday night at Whigham and ■ have- cinched the group honors in i the 0. B. A. “B" series. The score i being 10 to 8. Howe for Hensall I pitched the first two innings and then weakened and Welsh relieved him and held Wingham scoreless. * Hensall will meet Stratford in the I semi-finals. The- boys are playing great ball and showing up to good advantage. Bowling Tournament The bowlers held a tournament on our local green on Wednesday last. A large number of bowlers from different parts of Western Ontario were present. The green was in splendid condition and the day ideal for the event. The first prize was won by Dy. Beckley and i R. J. Winter, of Seaforth; second by J. S. Wren and Fred Bonthron, of Hensall and third by Dr. Mlc'Tag- gart and A. L. -Case, of Hensall and fourth by R. J. Sproat and J. E. Willis, of Seaforth. The play con tinued until after midnight. Inquest into, Death The adjourned inquest on the late Robert Lamont took place on Tues day morning in the Town Hall. Dr. Q’Dyer, Coroner of Huron County presided. Crown Attorney Holmes of Goderich, was there in the inter ests of the Crown. Dr. Collyer, who performed the post mortem was called on and told of the condition he found the body in and that in his opinion death was caused by an alcoholic condition of the heart. ■Constables Gundy, Whitesides and Hudson gave evidence also a num ber of young men belonging to the village. The Crown authorities were trying to find out where the deceased got the liquor but nothing definite was found out? The jury brought in a verdict along the lines of Dr. Collyer’s evidence. Council Meding; The regular monthly meeting of the Village Council was hold on Tuesday evening, all the members present and Reeve. Geiger, in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motion of Spencer and Gonsitt. Councillor Spencer reported on the condition of the crossing in front of the property of Jas. Bonthron on Oxford St, The Street Committee were- instructed to examine the crossing and make repairs. Roeve Geigor reported that the gravelling of the road running east out of Hen sall was completed. A. number of communications were read and or dered filed. The following accounts wore presented and ordered paid: Arthur Clark, labor on street .$2.80; Nelson Blatclrf-ord, weed cutting $18.70; Frank Wiifckwiro, printing $42,50; William Hildebrandt, labor $J<60; A. London seniors Defeat Hensall The Hensall baseball team took; their turn at night pasgiball on Mon-' day in London, and although defeat ed turned In a very creditable show ing against the London Seniors. This was the visitors’ first appearance before the man-made daylight and their four misplays were due largely to this. Kersiake had the city boys baffled for four innings but after that a succession of extra base hits Changed the entire complexion and when the game ended the London ers were ahead 10 to 6, 'The Lon don team used three, pitchers. Lefty Adair hurled the first four innings and was found for two runs. Freddie Quick pitched two innings and Mc Intyre finished- the mound work. Gascho with three hits stood out for Hensall. The Londoners had seven miscues to Hensalls four. Kersiake, Went the route for the losers and1 struck-out fifteen batters. Go Slowly.” Since the pavement lias been completed on the Highway, the traffic through the village has increased and it has been thought best to warn the pub lic of the location of the school and so protect the children who are in the habit of crossing the street without any thought of danger. The game between Hensall and Crediton last Thursday night was rather a hectic affair. Our boys didn’t make a very good showing. The score was just too bad. Mr. and’ troit, are village. These hot days have .caused a lot of bur people to go t?o- the Lake and take a swim in the cooling waters. The beach is exceptionally fine this year with a fine sandy bottom. Miss Pearl Haist, of Ann Arbour, Mich., who has been visiting her mother Mrs. Joseph Haist is visiting friends in Kitchener for a few days. Mrs. Sarah Bertrand and the Miss es Bertrand, of Detroit, and Miss El la Link, of Hamilton, who are camp ing at the lake, visited old acquain tances in the village last week. The many friends of Mrs* August Hill and her daughter Miss Clarissa, of Detroit, were pleased to see them last Saturday for a short time. The contest being held in the Evengelical Sunday Slehool between the Reds and’ the Blues is proving quite exciting. The school is divid- ed into two classes and each color'oh friends on Monday evening; is represented as an ocean liner cross ing the Atlantic Ocean from America to Palestine. Miss Lorenc Hirtzel is captain of the Reds and Miss Elsie Thompson Captain of the Blues. So far the Reds are in the lead but the race is proving a keen one. Mr. and Mrs. E. Truemuer and family, of Cliesley, visited with the latter’s'parents Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Gaiser. Mr. Cadger, of Parkhill, is reliev ing Mr. M. W. On Monday evening Miss Agnes Anderson’s circle, of the W. M. S. served cake and ice cream at the ball game and succeeded in taking in a nice sum of money. The first game in the second half •of the baseball series was played on the local diamond -on Thursday even ing of last week between Zurich and Ceptralia. The game ended with a score 16-—4 in favour of Zurich On Monday evening of this week Credi- ton team played the Centralia team on the local field. During the first part of the game Crediton boys were in the lead with a score of 7-—2, but Centralia picked up courage and af ter making some fine hits they suc ceeded in tieing the score.
