The 1931 convention of the 'Cana dian Wieekly Newspapers Associa tion will be held an the city of Re gina, July 2nd and 3rd, Some day the Provincial Board of Health is going to tell this commun ity that we must’ provide a supply of pure drinking water for our citizens, and when that 'happens the same Board is going to tell us how to do it and what we must do. Why leave the matter until we are forced? We know it is necessary and the revenue would pay for the.- system. The pres ent number of water users could 'be increased 50 per cent, and the unem ployed could be put' to wonk making those connection. The waterworks system naw in use could be utilized, and added to. During the winter many people have been carrying wa ter, and it is a well known fact that when wells are low the water is even Of a poorer quality than at other times. There becomes danger of an epidemic at such a time. The pos sibility of’sickness and death should be avoided when we know how to do it. The times are hard we know, but that is no reason why we should not provide necessary things for the people’s welfare and comfort. If ‘the little ones spent between hours in school there need of two or three hour of homework. that does not mean that we encour age the children running the streets all evening.. Any teacher, worthy of the name should be able to tell the standing of a pupil after teaching that child for a short time, but that is not the system in vogue. A child must pass an examination to proceed from one class to another and from one book to another—a mental and physical strain that no child of tender years should be sub jected to. Flay Draws Large Crowd The play entitled “The Absent- Minded Bridegroom” was put on in the auditorium of the United church on Friday evening of last week in the presence of a large audience. Great credit should be given to both the players and directors of the play as the parts were well chosen and each player took his part ex ceedingly well. • The. music between acts was provided by the orchestra of the Crediton Evangelical church.
