JESUS BRIGS THE Goon
,
Sunday, 'Feb. 22. --Luke
Golden' Text •
He went throughout every city
a,nd, village, preaching and sheaving
the glad tidings of the Kingdoth of
God. (Luke 8:1.)
As the. late Dr, Griffith Thomas
used to say, "The Gospel is not good
advice; it is good news," There is
a vast difference. Good advice tells
us of something that has been done
for tis,
'Another amazing chapter in
Luke's Gospel is introduced by three
verges; the first 6f these state four
remarkable facts; The Lord 'Went
throughout every city and village,
He omitted none. Everywhere, Ile
preached the glad tidings of the
Kingdom of God. "Preaching and
skewing the ,glad tidnigs," the Lord
not only preadhed, but He also prod
ticed, He declared and He denian-
grated, He told the Goad News,
Atid the twelve were with Him."
In this wonderful Joan -toy with a,
wonderful message, His chosen re-
presentatives were permitted to ac,
celnintilY WM: It is a hint of what
Fla Wants Ills disciples to do to -day'
He is with thein and they with Him,
With the. Lord also were "'certain
wonien" who are named and Whom
He had healed ittvarious WayS; they
"minptered Ulna Him of their Sul)?
dente." The healed helped. Ile bag
healed as today Of sin, Are
ready to help'?"
Fallowing this, extraordinary in-
troduction the chapter' records BeV.
en great teachings or events, *eat -
ed to or resulting from glad tidings
1 Parable of the BOWQr, God's
Word (onr Bible) is 'sown through,:
,ot the world a sseed is gown by the
sower. Four different possible re -
Salts are deseribed: after the aw-
ing, imay snatch the Word
away out of hearts of men; Others
receive it ogladly, but in a shallow
way, and lose It atter temptation;
with other .k it is choked with cares
and rtches'and, pleasures but .good
ground" hearers atieep it and bring
forth fruit with patienge.
2,, The olad Tidings is Liko 1.4gist
a lighted candle, not to be covered,
but to shine out as a blessing to:
many,
3, The Glad Tidings Makes Nov
Relationships, deeper and • Men
lasting than those of human flesh
and blood. Those 'who "hear the
Word of God, and do it' are closer
to the Lord Jesus Christ than His
own Mothr and brothers in their
human relationship to 41m.
4. Winds and Waves Obey 'Christ,
It is glad tidings that the Lord is in
command of the natural elements,
A. storm at sea could not injure His
disciples while the Lord was with
thein; when He spoke, the raging
of wind and, water ceased, "and
there was a calm".
4. A Demoniac Delivered. In Ga,,
dare was perhaps the most vicious
and. violent case of demon posses-
sion recorded in the Scriptures. The
man, naked, lived in the tombs with
the dead; he could not be. bound by
chains er fetters, but broke them
from him. He Waa•Possessed by a
legion of demons, who were terri-
ied when the Lord 'came near. At
the Lord's "command they had to
loose7, their hold on the miserable
man. With the Divine .permission
they entered Into a herd lof swine,
whicli at once "ran violently down
a steep place into the lake, and
were. choked."
The community did not like this
sort of Good News, The miraculous
deliverance of a fellear-humanbe-
ing meant nothing to them, if 'a
herd of twine 'was lost. So the
whole, 'community came together
and begged Christ to leave their
neighborhood. They preferred swine
to the Son of God. So .do all who
prefer sin to Christ.
6.. Healed by a Touch of Faith.
As a great crowd thronged about
the Lord, a woman who bad suffer-
ed 12 years from a disease, arid
whom no human physician Could
.heal came up ,behind' Him and
"touched the border of His. gar-
ment,:' and imaneditately she was
healed. Discovering her, the Lord
followed the act of Good News With
a ward of Good NewS: "Daughter,
be oflgeod *comfort; thy faith. 'lath
made thee whole; go in peace."
7. The Dead ;13aised to Life,
When the woman .was healed by a
touch, the Lord had been on the
way to the home of Jairus, ruler of
a synagogue, whole little 12,year-
old daughter lay dying. Before the
Lord reached the house of, Jairus
Word was brought: "Thy daughter
is dead; ">trouble not. the Master."
Now came Divine glad tidings in-
deed, as the Lord said: "Fear not:
believe onlyt and she shall be made
whole."
A great throng of mourners
laughed the Lord to scorn when He
sold to them: "Weep not; she is not
dead, but sleepeth." ,r_or, we read,
they knew that she was dead. But
the Lord- put the unbelievers out
of the house, took the little girl. by
the hand, spoke to her and,, said,
"Maid, arise. And her spirit came
again, and che_,arosis straightaway;
and He commanded to give her
Meat.".
Yes, death itself, man's great and
last enemy, slinks away helpless be-
fore the .command of Him who died
and rose again that men Might have
the gladest tidings that ever came
from Heaven to earth,
