salary of the Children's Aid Officer
and how he was .appointed, This
was explained and the report of .the
Children's Shelter was presented by
H. T. Edward, the superintendent of
the ckiwrow4 and Society for alu-
rou County.
Mr, Haase, the •provincial inspec-
tor of highways was present, and
was asked to ad -dress the _council.
Mr. Haase confined his remarks
chiefly to explaining the new law re-
garding the .appolutinent of good
roads commission.
The cleric replying to an inquiry
by aMr. Henderson. regarding the
criminal justice aceounts auditing
went fully into the methods pursued
by the auditors.
Mr. Goetz asked regarding keep-
ing allow roads open during the
winter. The matter was discussed
but nothing definite determined ex-
cept that rthe cost on the highways
was 20 per cent. of the total.

ing in the vote. as above stated.
Grants
It was recommended that a grant
the same as last year of $100 , be
made to. the North and South Plow-
men's Association was carried; that
all agricultural ,societies holding a
fall and spring fair receive the usual
grants of $100 each-acarried; that
the usual grants. of ;25.00 be given
each and boundary schools! 50% of
this grant—carried; that the usual
grants of $25.00 be given public li-
braries—carried; that a grant 9f
$25.00 be given Hensall Seed Show
--carried; that $25.00 be expended
on flower beds at the Court House
—carried.
The following grants were also
recommended and carried; Salvati•on
Army Rescue Home, $250; Institute
•
for the Blind, $100; junior Exten-
sion Work, $200.
„Tho County Property Committee
reported as follows: '
1. We visited the Registry Office
and. found everything in fair condi-
tion.
2. We visited! the goal and found
seven prisoners in custody at pres-
ent. Everything is neat and clean,
3.. We recommended that a bath
tub -and tank at the goal be replaced
with a new one at. a cost of approxi-
mately $60, as the old ones are be-
yond repair. We neer:mend stanew
lama mower be purchased in place
of the old one and a taw other miner
repairs be made.
4. Ws visited' the. hreg:Istrate's
Office and found everything in first
class condition and we recommend
a light be put in the. Magistrate's
office for theryault as recommended
in the last report of the December
session. . f
5. We visited the different .offices
in the court house and find them in
good state of repair. We also visit-
ed the witness rem upstairs and
find .some improvements could he
made stteh as new blinds and decor-
jating, vlfhich the committee referred
bo the Jane 'session,

On Monday morning as Mr. Wm.
Whitlock was proceeding up street,
•his horse when near the Methodist
church became frightened- of a cosi,
and jumping to one side, upset the
cutter, throwing Mr. Whitlock out.
Tho annual meeting of the Sou'th'
Huron L.O.L. was held in Drew's
Hall, Exeter, on Tuesday afternoon.
There was a very large attendance
of delegates. The following ,offieers
