re-elected president of the Ontario
Br$ therhood of Thveshermen by ac-
clamation at the 17th .annual con-
vention held in London last week.
Airs. K. J. ;Sims has been confined
to her bed during the past week with
bronchitis and the forming of a :sev-
ere abscess in .her head. She is im-
pie:wi 1g at present.
Miss Violet Gambrill is the guest
of Miss Pearl Baker at•Granton. for
a few days. 'On Sunday Miss Baker
presided very capably at'the organ.
AFiss Gambrill assisting the choir and
sang two solos which were,muclr ap-
preciated. t •
Miss Amy Shapton, •of the staff of
Southcott Bros., who has been i11 at
;her home since the. New Year was
taken to St. ,Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don on. Sunday and On ' Wednesday
underwent an operation, •She is do-
ig as well as can: be expected. •
. Up until the latter part of last
weekl cars were able to run in all
directions but on Friday a snowfall
practically blocked the sideroads. The

and .daughter 'Marian motored over
froni,Detteit and spent the week -end
with Mrs. Patterion's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Rd. Quance. Mrs. Quance
celebrated her 75th birthday on Sun-
day receiving the congratulations of
her friends. Mrs. W. J. Beer accost-
panied Air. acrd Mrs. Patterson back
to Detroit visiting there this week.
The regular. meeting of the James
Street Women's Association was held
in the church parlors. Mrs. J. S.
Grant was in charge of the devotion-
al exercises after which the presi-
dent, :sirs. N, Sheerer took the. chair.
The Treasurer, reported that between.
$1200 and $1300 had beefs raised
during the year. The ladies decided
to have a Valentine Tea in February
and also to again use the holiday
coin bags. Lunch was served and a
social time enjoyed.
The January meeting Of the Main
St. Mission Circle Was held at the
home of Aliss Violet Gambrill. The
meeting was opened by singing hymn
and prayer, with the president, Aliss
Marjorie 'Pearce, in the chair. The
business Was discussed and sides for
the contest were chosen., The cap-
tains were Irene Mooney and Dorothy
ityckmau. 'airs. Geo. Layton told the
story of ,"Mary Reed of Chandag"
which was very ably gsvetr. A. very
pleasant sociable half hour was spent.
at the close of the meeting.

UNCONSCIOUS AT RINK
Rev. Mr. Thatner, pastor ol'' the
Fullerton Baptist.Church, was found
unconscious on the Fullerton open-air
skating rink. Mr. Timmer had gone'
to the rink and . was skating alone,iF
and it is believed he suffered a.faint- I
ing spell. When found by workmen
at the rink,he had suffered :a deep,
gash over the right eye. He was reT
moved to his home and medical aid
summoned.

casion of an. enjoyable reception at
their home, 34 Fairinont Cres., Tor-
onto, Saturday afterpoon, January
17th from 3.ar0 to 6 o'clock: Mars.
Herrman was becomingly gowned in
black lace and, ehi.ffon with a hand=
some gold brooch which • had ,been
the gift of her husband many `years
ago and a corsage of roses and vio-
lets.
Mr. and Mrs. Heantan received
their guests, numbering about one
hundred assisted by• their son and
daughter-in-law .fir; and Alis, R, H.
Heaman and their two grandchildren
George and' Margaret.
Among the guests were many old
.Exeter friends now residing in Tor-
onto. Mrs. W. H.' Hill and Mrs. J.

The inaugural meeting of the Bid-
dulph Township Council was held
*ith all nienr'bers present. Tile per-

wtin, councillors. The session was
taken up with routine business, ap-
pointing officers and setting `salaries,
for- the ensuing year.

Evans was reappointed. attendance

Two surprise gifts were sent to the
Trinity United Church parsonage,
where tho minister and his wife, Rev.
Robert Hicks and firs. Hicks, were
quietly observing an ithportatrt mile-
stone in their lives, their 25th wed-
ding anniversary. .A, lovely silver
basket filled with roses Carne from
the church board tied a beautiful sil-
ver well and tree platter from the.
Ladies' -Aid. Both gifts were accost.-
partied with brief messages of felici-
tation. During the Clay Rev. Mr. and
Airs.' Hicks were also the recipients
of several lovely.bouquets and con-
gratulatory messages. •
In the course of Making the ehttrch
announcements at the Sunday servic-
es Mr, Hicks expressed the deep
gratitude'of himself and his wife fiir
the remembrances they had received.
