The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1934-12-06, Page 5THE EXETER TIMES-ADVOCATE THURSDAY, DECEMBER 0, 1934 HENSALL The Election The election for Reeve, Council and, School Trustees held here on Monday resulted in the return of the old Council. For the Trustee Board two old members Alfred Clark and W. 0. Goodwin were re-elected and John Sheppard will take the place of Edgar iMcQueen who retired, The election was hotly contested all day. The principal interest centred in .the contest for Reeve. Mr. Geiger, 'form er warden of Huron County and a great many times, reeve of Hensail, was in the field against the present reeve, William Jones, who' has held that office only one year. Mr. Jones was badly handicapped during the contest, having to .go on crutches as a result of a bad fall sustained a couple of weeks ago by falling .from a w’agon while looking after some ■town work. Mr. Jones defeated Mr, Geiger by 54 votes. Mr. Wm. Shep- perd headed the poll for the council and John Shepperd for the Trustee Board. The vote indicated that the ratepayers did not desire an election this year and. that the council and Trustee Board should have had an acclammation, Councillor G. C. Petty who held fourth place in the run for the council was able to go out ‘and vote, but did not take any active part in the contest. Considering the feeling in the village Mr. Fred Daters made a good, run for the council and no doubt, some time in the future he will be more successful. Mr. Dat- ens would make a good councilman. Majority for Jones—54. The following was the vote: For Reeve Jones Geiger ........... 110'107—-217 .............. 97 6'6—'163 Trustee Board Councillors W. Shepperd .... 151 133-—274 W.
