Boys Scouts Visit London
Telephone Excha nge
To go behind the scenes and .see
the extensive equipment and the in
tricate workings of the London ex
change of the Bell Telephone Co.
was the privilege of about 25' Boy
Scouts of Exeter on Saturday after
noon of last week. The boys in .two
groups were shown the generators
and the. huge batteries that supply
power; the thousands of wires which
j seemed like a jumbled mass yet with
everyone in its proper place; the 1 various stages through which they
i pass before arriving at the iswitch-
! board and a host of other things
! that could only be understood by
the technical knowledge of it. They
v’sited the operating room and ob- 1
served the many girls a-t the switch
boards working with skilled hands
l at lightning speed as they made
connection after connection. Per- ! haps the boys will have a little mewe
sympathy with the operators when
there Is a little delay or 'trouble on
the line sometimes now that they
have seen them at work. The Scouts
wore there at the invitation of iMr.
I R, L. Stratton, district manager, of
; the Boll Co., who is himself the
chief commissioner of the Boy
Scouts for London and the boysI found their trip a most pleasant and1
profitable one.
