Miss Annie Carlisle left last week for London where she has secured a good position. Ray Patterson and Norman Sin­ clair took in the World’s Fair at Chicago last week. John Drummond and John Far­ quhar are attending the Toronto Exhibition this week, Wednesday afternoon last of the weekly half the village this season. Mr. Ezra Willard is making a number of improvements to his home on North Richmond St. Mr. Fred Hess is making a num­ ber of improvements to his fine home on South Richmond St. There is a great deal of sickness in the village at present, quite a number being down with the flu. Mr. and ,Mts. Norman Goode and family have returned spending their holidays Beach. Mrs. Robert Bonthron a few weeks visiting in Detroit with her son Mr. Will Bonthron and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sgngster and family have returned home after a pleasant motor trip to Windsor and Detorit. Mrs. Edmund Troyer, of is spending a week or two with relatives and friends sail and vicinity. Miss Fanny Bissett, of spent a few days in town last week visiting with Mrs. Hannah Taylor and other friends. Mr. George T. Mickle, of Ridge­ town, was in town over the week­ end visiting at the home of his son, Mr. Laird Mickle. Mr. Ed. Willard, of Grand Bend, is spending a few days this week visiting at the home Mr. Ezra Willard. Mrs. Harold Calles, ara, Cal., is visiting mother, Mrs. John sister, .Mrs. Fred Simmons. Mr. and Mrs. Alf Smith and their daughter Marion were recent visitors here with Mr. and Mrs. Smith’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Spellman and little daughter, of Kitchener, visit­ ed with friends in Hen-sail and vi­ cinity for a few days last week. Mrs. Herbert Doig and son Fred, of Guelph, are in town visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Drummond. Mrs. Doig is an aunt of Mr. Drummond. Mrs. L. Allan and son Gordon, of Guelph, are visiting here this week with Mr. and .M'l’S-. Earl Drummond. Mrs. Allan is a sister of Mr. Drum­ mond.The council are having the cement road on King St. repaired and all the cracks filled. This has to be done each year to keep- the road id good condition. There was a meeting of the vill­ age council on Saturday morning when the repairing of the pavement and the sale of beer and wine in the local hotel were discussed. The Hensail Public and Continua­ tion Schools, will re-open for the fall term Tuesday morning, Sept. 4th. We believe there will be sever­ al changes in the teaching staff. Mrs. John Johnson and daughter Miss Margaret Johnson are spend­ ing a couple of weeks- visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Douglas and other relatives at Hyde Park and London. The deciding game between Waterloo and Hensail will be play­ ed at Kitchener on Wednesday af­ ternoon of this week, when a large crowd of Hensail fans will go to Kitchener with the team. Mr. John Kennedy opened up his new -grocery store with a brand new stock, on Saturday morning. Mr. Kennedy comes to Hensail • from Flesherton, well recommended and will no doubt do a good business. Rev. M. B. Parker, rector of St. Pauls Anglican -Church has return­ ed from a month’s holidays, visit­ ing at his home in Dorchester and other points. Mr. Parker took the services in his own church on Sun­ day last. Dr. and Mrs. Burley, of Almonte, Micli., were recent visitors here with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Sherritt. Mr. Harold Sherritt accompanied them on their return home an-d( is spending a week: or two visiting with them at Almonte. Rev. Arthur Sinclair, pastor of the United Church took the services on Sunday last and preached two splendid sermons. At the morning service Mr. ,S. Rannie s-ang a solo and -at the evening service there was a quartette by Kathryn Drys­ dale, Minnie -Sangster, Mildred Foll­ icle and Bella -Smale. There is nothing definite as to the sale of beer and wine in the Hensall hotel, up until’to-day, Tues­ day. The hotel has 'been remodelled and made up to date in every way, The pool room has been made into the beer parlor and when all has been completed it will be one of the best of the smaller hotels in the province. Holtz .and sons neth and Raymond, of Kitchener, spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Morlock and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haist. School starts next Tuesday after the summer holidays. It is expected quite a number of children will start their studies. Miss Ella Mor­ lock has been engaged to teach the Primary Department while Gaiser' is still principal and Kenny the first assistant. Word has been received that thd“ Chautauqua Company will put on entertainments in Crediton on September 28-th and October 12th. This is the first time Ohauat-auqua has been held in Crediton. Only the bes-t of artists appear on these pro­ grams and we can rest as-surred that -a treat is in store f-or u-s. More particulars will follow later. Mr. Elgin Woodall, of Detroit and Miss Mildred Quigley also of De­ troit were married in Indiana on Saturday, Aug. ll'th. After spending a pleasant honeymoon down South the young couple have taken up residence in Detroit. Elgin is a for­ mer Crediton boy and his many friends here join in wishing him and his bride continued happiness. A “Wuerth” picnic was held at Grand Bend on Wednesday after­ noon, August 22nd, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Wuerth, of San Francisco, Calif. There were 30- relatives present. An enjoyable time was spent and after a sumptuous lunch a baseball game was played with Reginald and Reynold Wuerth as captains. Special music was provid­ ed by a quartette of young men from Crediton Evangelical church and their offering was- greatly ap­ preciated, presented a very excellent ance and most of the -graves were decorated ■■■ - Last Monday morning as Mr. Wm. Smith was- in the act of put­ ting his threshing machine into the barn of Mr. Emmery Gaiser, the combination drive-shaft of the en­ gine broke, putting it completely out of control. This caused the machine to come down the steep bank -and upset on its side. Mr. Eli Sims, who was steering the machine jumped£1fVjust in time to save himself from being caught underneath. It required many men with the assis­ tance of a tfactor to raise the ma­ chine again. Miss Bessie Johns spent a week recently with relatives in Exeter. Mr. Walter Johns B.A., who has been studying at Cornell University at Ithaca, N. Y., has obtained his Ph. D., degree. He has been suc­ cessful in securing a position in Waterloo College, which is affiliated with Western University. He will teach Latin, Greek, Public Speaking and Canadian History, his duties to commence on September 15th. He is expected home from Ithaca the lat­ ter part of this week for a few holi­ days before going to Waterloo. His many friends will extend congratu­ lations. Swartz when Miss Myrta I. Hoffman of Kitchener, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Hoffman, of Dashwood, be­ came the bride of Mr. Norman Evans of Kitchener, youngest son of Mrs. Catherine and the late Thos. Evans, of Kitchener. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. J. -S.
