The engagement is announced of Miss Dorothy Irene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. AV. J. Mallett, of London, formerly of Exeter, to Arthur AVil- lia.m Hynd, also of London, the mar­ riage to, take place Quietly the lat­ ter part of June. Mr. Arthur Jones and two sons, Mervin and Billy and Mr. J. J. O’­ Brien, of town and Mr. AVin. Jones of Hensall, motored to Sundridge last Saturday. They went to Noith Buy on Sunday. Mary Reid, of Seaforth, as teacher for the coming year. Mrs. Howe has returned to Exe­ ter after spending the winter in Cal­ ifornia. She also visited in Toronto and Owen Sound before returning to town. Messrs. Earl E. Christie, Stephen, and Howard AV. Johnston, -of Cred­ iton, have been successful in passing their first year in Arts versify of Toronto. A splendid rain fell and will do much good and vegetation. Strawberries been very scarce and the rain should help them along considerably. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Broderick and Mr. Carl F. Leipprandt, -of Pigeon, Mich., are visiting at the home of Mr. E. Rowcliffe. While here they at­ tended the Bell family reunion. Mrs. Broderick and Mrs. Rowcliffe are sisters. Miss Geraldine Armstrong, who recently underwent an operation in St. Joseph’s Hospital in London for appendicitis has been seriously ill with a day and night nurse in at­ tendance. At present she is getting along nicely. The coroner’s inquest into the deaths of the late Adam Birk and Miss -Lindenfield, who were killed in an accident at the railway crossing on the Lake Road -on Friday, June 1st, will be held by Dr. O’Dwyer, coroner, -on Thursday morning be­ ginning at ten o’clock. The young people of James -Street United church presented their play “Civil Service” at Zion -on Tuesday evening of last week. They will present it next Monday at Granton under the auspices of the St. Thomas’ Anglican church and the following evening they go to Nissouri. They are also booked for Kir-kton. Mr. B. W. Grigg and daughter Mrs. Wheatley and the latter’s little daughter Cecile, of Montreal, visited for a few days with the former’s sis­ ter, Miss M. Grigg and Miss McFaul. Last summer Mr. Grigg, Mrs. Wheat- ley and daughter spent three months visiting in England and Scotland and a year ago they were visiting in Exeter, England, and spent some time in Devonshire. Batson and two children motored to Toronto on Wednesday where Mr. Batson will attend the I. O. O. F. Grand Lodge. Messrs. Jack McBeth, of Hensall and Hugh Berry, of Brucefield, are also attending Grand Lodge. Rev. Stanley Johnston, of Lucan, conducted' the evening service in James- Street United Church on Sun­ day delivering a very acceptable- ser­ mon. Rev. Mr. Stainton was in. Lucan on the occasion of the anni­ versary in the United Church there. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rickbeil and son Robert, of Worthington, Minn., motored over on a visit to Mrs. Ricn- beil’s mother Mrs. -S.
