The tax notices have been distri­ buted in Exeter and the first pay­ ment is due before the end of the month. Mrs. Rd. Penhale, of Toronto, is visiting with her mother Mrs. Sand­ ers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Walker. Mrs. M. Bel-ling and son Don. of Detroit, are visiting for a few days with the former’s parents Mr. and. Mrs. A. Francis. A number from town were in Lon­ don on Sunday attending the London Garrison church parade when over 2500 troops paraded. Workmen are making splendid progress on the residence of Mr. W. Webber, London Road South, which is being remodelled. Mr. and Mrs. Glass, of Wingate, England, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cook. Mrs. Glass is a sis­ ter of Mr. Cook. They expect to be here for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hunter and son Dick, of Winnipeg, were recent visit­ ors with their uncle Mr, John Hunt­ er and other relatives in the com­ munity. Mr. Jas. Moore and Mr. R. Rennie, of Kemptville, visited with Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Christie and Mrs. E. Coultis a couple of week. Mr. Lloyd Freure, who visiting at the Main St, 1 has returned to his home in Welland for a few weeks and expects to re­ turn later. Mr. and Mrs. Rd. Coates, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Coates and daughter Elaine spent the week-end visiting with Mrs. Davis and Miss Vina Fish­ er in Hamilton. The Main Street Male Quartette will furnish music at the Strawberry Supper to be held in the Thames Road United Church Monday even­ ing of next week. Mrs. (Dr.) D. A. Bowerman, who has been visiting Rev. J. W. Down, and her sister Mrs. Down, friends returned to her Menomonie, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. F. Miss Eacrett and Miss Tom motored to doderich .Sunday and visited for a short time with Miss- Tom’s sister- in-law Mrs. J. Elgin Tom. • Mr. and Mrs. W. -C. Pearce and Mr. and Mrs. George Layton attend­ ed the 25th anniversary of the Wo­ men’s Institute of Iona on Wednes­ day of which Mrs. Pearce is a char­ ter member. Mrs. J. A. Stewart and her sister Mrs. Wiley, of Toronto, left recently on a motor trip to Moncton, N. 'B., where they are visiting with the former’s son Mr. D. B. Stewart for a couple of weeks. Mr. Grafton Cochrane left -last week to visit in Kitchener before going to Toronto where he has se­ cured a position on one of the boats plying between Toronto and Lewis­ ton in company with Mr. Ray Pryde. Mr. Jas. Wong, of. the Wong Cafe, who has been on an extended visit to his native land, returned to Excf- ter un Thursday -last. Mr. Wong en­ joyed a splendid trip, the ocean voy­ age being particularly fine and for­ tunately he was not seasick at any time. Mr. Joseph Hood, of No, 14 Stan­ ley, where they are holding, a re­ union on the 30th -of June, visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. Ji. Johnston on Thursday last. Mrs. -George, secretary of the west­ ern Ontario W. >C. T. U. gave a very interesting talk on scientific temper­ ance at the Jam-es Street Sunday School on Sunday morning. She also addressed a few words at the Main Street School. Mrs. George also •addressed a meeting of the W. C. T. U. in Main St. Church Tuesday ev­ ening at which there was a fine at­ tendance. Glass Jars • Southcott Bros. The work of laying the under­ ground -conduits by the Bell Tele­ phone Company on two blocks of the Main Street is just about completed. A large gang of men have been at work. There is still considerable work to be done in removing the poles and restringing the wires. Mr. Victor Hogarth, who for sev­ eral months has been a patient at Christie Street Hospital in Toronto, where he underwent an operation when part of his spine wa& removed and was replaced by a portion of bone from his leg, motored up with some friends on Wednesday last and after paying a short visit at his home and among friends returned to To­ ronto on Thursday evening. Mr. Ho­ garth has made a remarkable- recov­ ery and -expects to return to his home in a few weeks. Laird Bros.
