MISSION BAND PRESENT P1.AY The Girls’ Mission Circle of the Thames Road Church gave a very de­ lightful entertainment in Main St. Church on Tuesday evening when they put on a play ‘A Stitch in Time.’ Not only was it humorous but in­ structive as well. Chinese life and customs were shown in a very real­ istic way. The girls of Thames Road church are to be ■congratulated on their presentation. (Much credit is due to Mrs. Taylor of the Thames Road manse for her training and di­ rectorship. Rev. H. Taylor gave helpful explanations of the different scenes. Between the acts was given a well rendered recitation by little Jean MacDougall; a lov©ljr Chinese song by June and Ruth Taylor; duet “Whispering Hope’’ by Misses P. Wood and Margaret Johns in splen­ did form; and song by Cyril/ Strange with accompaniment on guitar Each one met with hearty applause. The Logie Mission Band, under whose auspices the entertainment was held, wish to say thank you to one and all who helped in the enter­ tainment as well as to those who helped by their patronage. Heaman, of London, Ontario, Can­ ada;, are visiting Annapolis at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ver­ non Fowler, of the Naval Academy. Mrs. Skelton is an author, composer of music, poet, and a noted genealo­ gist. At present, she is compiling a history of the Fowler family and its allied connections. She is a descend­ ant herself of William Fowler, “ye first magistrate” of Connecticut, William Cullen Bryant and Henry Wordsworth Longfellow. N. KESSELL A shadow of gloom was cast over the community' on Friday, May 4th, when it became known that Jos. N. Kessell had passed away at Lash­ burn, Sask. He had been sick for only thiree days and a half with pneumonia and apparently was re­ covering when his heart failed and the end came suddenly. Joe was of a lovable disposition and was always ready and willing to help in any act of kindness. During the past summer, he had visited his old home six miles west of Exeter and renew­ ed many old acquaintances. He was the youngest son of the late Pascoe and Mary Ann Kessell and is surviv­ ed by one sister, Mrs. John Brown and three (brothersZThomas and Jo­nah on the homestead and William, of Marsden, Sask., who accompanied the body to Exeter. The funeral took) place on Friday afternoon May 11th, the service being conducted by Bev. Mr. Stainton, pastor of James St. United Church, with interment in the Exeter cemetery. Those who attended the service from a distance were: Mr. and MPs. Geo. Sutherland and Mr. Albert Carr, of Ailsa Craig; Mr. Cyrus. GLADMAN & STANBURY Exeter and Hensall Executors’ Solicitors Synopsis of Proposed By-Law of the Village of pxetei On the 7th day of May, 1934, the Municipal Council of the Corpora­ tion of the Village of Exeter intro­ duced and gave first and second readings to a By-law to raise by way of loan the sum of $28,000.00 upon, debentures to pay in part the cost of extensions and improvements to the Waterworks System of the Vil- lage. The extensions and improve- jnents consist of the following works namely: the-Jnstallation of a water supply system comprising concrete reservoir 250,000 Imperial gallon ca­ pacity; gasoline engine driven fire pump, together with measuring de­ vices and piping; moving and re­ setting existing fire pump; con­ struction of a pumphouse for fire pumps, and the installation of a deep well pump, motor and housing, according to the plans of Mr. D. H. Fleming, Consulting Engineer, Tor­ onto. The amount of the debt or liability to be created is $28,000.00i and the debentures to be issued are to be payable in Thirty (30) annual instalments of such amounts re­ spectively that the aggregate amount payable for principal and interest in each year will be as nearly as possible the same as the amount to be raised for princip­ al and interest in each of the other years.
