Murdock visited- the week-end in Toronto with daughter, Mrs. Dr. Campbell. Mr. and .Mrs. Jack 'Corbett little son visited with relatives friends'in London on Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. R. M. Young, of Nairn, were visitors at the home of their son, Rev. Young on Monday. Reeve Consitt is in Goderich this week attending the December meet­ ing of the County Council, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Brintnell and family, of Exeter, visited on Sunday with‘Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hud­ son Herb’ Hoggarth and Donald Mc- Kaig were visiting friends at Grand Bend and Beach O’ Pines on Satur­ day ;(ast. Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Otterbein and son have moved into the Wilson house on Oxford St. recently vacat­ ed by Mr. Jas. Sangster. , The Arnold Circle of Carmel Church held their annual meeting and election of officers at the home of Miss Irene Hoggarth on Tuesday evening and also their usual meet­ ing. A very enjoyable time was spent The Arnold Circle and Mission Band of Carmel church are holding a bazaar and sa.ie of aprons, tea towels and home made cooking in t-he basement of the church on Sat­ urday afternoon. Tea will be served from 3 o 6 o’clock. Mr. Cassidy, who1 is employed with Bonthron and . Drysdale has , rented the house on South Richmond St. owned by the late Mrs. Henry Jacobi and is moving his house­ hold effects from Ottervillte this week. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Cassidy to our village. Mr. Alex Clark, of the Township of East Wawanosh and Mr. Richard Stalker, a former Reeve of East Wa- wanosh were in town on Wednesday of last week casing on Mr. Robert Higgins.. Mr. Porterfield is an ap­ plicant for the position of the county clerkship. Mr. Higgins and -Mr. Por­ terfield audited the books together for a number of years. The services in Carmel Church on Sunday were taken' oy the pastor, Rev. W. A. Young at 'the morning service, there was special music by the choir at the evening service. Mr. Yourig’s’sermon Was on the “Life of Deijt” there was a male quartette present from Nairn and rendered" special music which was greatly en­ joyed, Council Meeting The regular meting of the Village Council was held Monday evening in the Council Chambers at 8 p.m. with all members of council being present. Knight had the misfortune to fracture several of his ribs when he fell while at work one day last week. Mrs. Cecii Skinner, or Usborne, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, last week- where she under­ went an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Kenneth Hodgins spent the week-end at his home near Green­ way. - . Mr. George Johnston, or the Sham­ rock Creamery staff is confined to his home with bloodrpoisoning. Mrs. L. Fletcher, of Winchelsea, spent the week-end with Mrs. Roy Fletcher. The chicken supper which was put on by the members of the W. M. S. on Friday evening of last week was well attended. Following the supper a splendid program was rendered by the gentlemen of the congregation, with Rev. R. N. Stewart as chairman. The members of the society take this opportunity of expressing their ap­ preciation for their splendid program. Mrs. 'Milton Mitchell is visiting this week with her brother Mr. L. Baynham of Guelph. Mrs. Byron Hicks entertained at her home at a birthday party in hon­ or of her father Mr. John Essery, on Friday evening of this week. Mr. Geo. Thompson received word on Sunday evening of the death of his brother Mr. Wm. Thompson. Mr. Geo. Thompson left on Wednesday to attend the funeral, Mr. Fred ’Bo'fvden, of the Sham­ rock Creamery is confined home through illness. His friends hope he will have a. recovery. Monday evening a number of the ladies met at the home of Mrs. Otto Brown and presented Miss Bernice Carrick with a kitchen shower which was given to her in a prettily dec­ orated basket and was carried by Bernice Brown ‘and Frank Hicks. M. S. Thankoffering sup­ per given last Wednesday evening was a decided success. There were nearly seventy persons in. attendance, members of the W. M. S. together with their husbands and a few invit­ ed guests. The program which was rendered after the supper consisted of the following; iSeleotio-n by the married men’s orchestra; Scripture lesson was read by the oldest mem­ ber of the W. M. S.,*’Mrs. Charlotte Brown; prayer by Mr. Art Amy; chorus by the men, address on thank­ fulness and tliankofferings by Miss Ella Morlock; vocal solo by Mr. C. •Sims; humorous reminoscences by Mr Geo. Finkbeiner. Mrs. Amy took charge of the presentation of the silver medal to Ella Moriock for hav­ ing won the W. -M. S. oratorical con­ test last month. An excellent* mis­ sionary pageant entitiec, “The Per­ fect Gift” was ably presented by twenty members of the organization; Mrs. M. Faist .and Mrs. E. Wenzel had charge. A vote of thanks was tendered to all who took part and also the excellent supper of which Mrs. Harry Beaver was convenor.
