Sheffer returned home on Thursday from Port Rowan where she had 'been visiting for the past three weeks. She was accompanied home by her daughter who visited here for a few days. At the fowl supper to be held in Carmel church on November 9th a splendid program is being prepared and entertainers from .New St. James Church, London, will be pres­ ent to assist with the program. The Hensall C. G. I. T. Glee Co. Group held their first meeting of the season on Tuesday evening by holding a marshmallow and weiner roast. All the members were present and a very enjoyable time was spent The annual rally of the young people of the Presbyterian church will hold tlteir meeting in Goderi'ch on Monday evening, .October 30 th. Young, pastor of Car­ mel Church yas taken suddenly ill on Saturday evening and was taken to Seaforth S’cott Memorial Hospital where he was operated on for appendicitis. At time of writing he is getting along nicely.The Ladies of Carmel Church will hold their annual' Thanksgiving In the basement of the church on Thursday afternoon, October 26th; the guest speaker for the meeting will be Miss McConner.-, a mission­ ary on furlough from India. The young people’s Anniversary services in Carmel Church on Sun­ day last were well attended. Rev. B. Simpson Blacik, of St. Andrews Church, Sarnia, was the speaker and gave tw*o splendid addresses. There was special music and anthems by a young people’s choir. In the morn­ ing a sextet by Irene Hoggarth, Hazel Thompson, Mrs. Harold Belt, Irene Daters and Jerry Denfield and Jas. Bangoff. In the evening a quar­ tet by Irene Hoggarth, Mabie Work­ man, Mrs. Harold Bell and Irene Daters. On Thursday of last week the W. M. S. of the United Church very pleasantly entertained as guests the XV. M. S. Societies of Kippen and, Chiselhurst. The meeting was pre­ sided over by Mrs. Cooper, of Kip­ pen, president of that society and Mrs C. A. McDonald, of the Hensall society. A paper on our work for Christ was""given by Mrs. Montieth Duet by .Mrs. M. Drysdale and Mrs. George Hess with Miss Greta Lara­ mie at the piano Map talk on Medi­ cal Missions in Canada, Mrs. Chand­ ler, of Kippen. Duet Miss’ Florence Thomson and Jean Ivison with Mrs. McLean as accompanist. One of the pleasing features of the afternoon was the address dealing with the missionary work in different lands, given by Mrs. Gardiner, of Lohdjss- , boro. A dainty lunch, was served with MrS. The Late George" Fairbairn The death occurred Thursday ening of George Fairbairn at home a short distance from Hensall The deceased who was in his 6 8th year had not been,, in the best of health during the past few months. About four weeks'ago he took ser­ iously ill with pneumonia and de­ spite the best of medical skill and nursing he passed away Thursday evening. Mr. Fairbairn was married twice his first wife being Agnes 'Simmons. Of that first union three children survive, Mrs. Joseph Hud­ son, of Hensall; Elliott, of Tillson- burg and William of near Hensall. His second wife was formerly Miss Ma'ble Simmons, who survives him together with five daughters and two sons: Mrs. Lennis O’Brien, of Clinton; Mrs, Clifford Brintnell, of Exeter; Agnes, Shirley and Mabie at home and Fred of Windsor; Clar­ ence four and Mrs. Mrs. Moir, (of the West; Walter Fairbairn of Hensall; , John and Elliott, of Snowflake, Man. and Robert of the West. Hackney has returned from Detroit where her niece, Miss Mar­ garet Bell, of Seaforth, underwent a very serious operation and passed away on Friday last. Miss Hackney and Miss Bell were on their way to Chicago to visit the 'Century of Pro­ gress Exposition, when Miss Bell was taken suddenly ill, The remains were brought to Seaforth for interment on Monday, WINCHELSEA Mr. and Mrs. Alf. -Collier and baby of Kirkton, called on the latter’s parents Mr. and Mrs. H. The brides cake was lit up with six candles and' adorned the table, from which lunch was served in groups, to those present. From 2 o’clock till 5 crowds were seen wend­ ing their way to the home of the happy couple,-to wish them many more years of health and happiness. The Young People’s Society visited Granton Y. P. S. Monday evening last, putting on the program. An enjoyable time was spent in games, etc. Mr. Haboush, a native Galilean shepherd is coming to Kirkton Unit­ ed Church, Sunday, October 29, at 3 p.m. to speak on his shepherd life in ancient Galilea. Died in the West Word was received here from Berwyn, Alberta, by Mr. Dan Truem- ner of the sudden death of his sister Mrs. Paul Messner (Mary Truemner) who was 72 years of age. Mr. Paul Messner died last December. Mirs. Messner was born and raised .near Dashwood. She leaves a family ot eight children. Mrs. Henry Motz is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Paul Messner■ Forty-Five Years Married A surprise party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Motz on Monday evening when their chil­ dren, grandchildren and friends gathered there and took them com­ pletely by surprise. Progressive ucli- re was played and then a lunch was served. The prize winners were Mrs. R. Motz, Mr. Win. Motz, Mr. Frank Scheiding, Mr. T. H. Yuli, Mr. Wm. Heatherley and Mr. Stanley Kelly. After lunch Miss Therma Heatherley read the following address and Shir­ ley and Bartie Motz presented their grandparents with a lovely mantel clock. Both iMr. and Mrs. Motz made suitable replies. There passed away in Victoria Hospital on Sunday, October 22nd, Mr. Cecil Gill in his 23rd year. The deceased had been suffering from blood poisoning for a few days start­ ing from a small pimple. He was the third oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gill, of the Mollard Line, He leaves to mourn .his loss, his wife and little daughter Audrey, also his father and mother, one sister and four brothers. Mr. Gill, or better known as Cecil was very prominent with the young people of the United Church also in the church circle. The sympathy goes out to the family as a whole in their -sad bereavement. SHIPKA The S. Y. P. meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Lamport, Monday evening. Arrangements were made for the coming month, this being the first meeting since last May.
